These include Cyber Security, Quantum Computing, AI, Data Science, Automation and Robotics, and Semiconductor Technology. Semiconductor Technology and VLSI programmes cost more because their laboratory work requires cleanroom and fabrication facilities.
DIAT Pune Admission Process
GATE scores form the main basis for DIAT Pune M.Tech selection. DIAT handles applications through its official portal and conducts its admission procedure after GATE results. Applicants must therefore submit their forms directly to the university.
M.Tech Admission
- Complete a relevant B.E. or B.Tech degree with at least 60% marks for General candidates or 55% for SC/ST candidates.
- Hold a valid score in the GATE paper linked to the chosen specialisation.
- Attend an interview with the DIAT admission committee if shortlisted on the basis of GATE.
- DRDO employees and officers serving in the Army, Navy or Air Force may use a separate defence-sponsored quota with relaxed conditions.
Selection can be more competitive in defence-focused M.Tech areas because sponsored personnel may receive priority. Civilian applicants to technology programmes such as Cyber Security, AI and Data Science are generally considered with GATE scores in the 60+ percentile range. The final decision takes both the GATE score and interview performance into account.
M.Sc and PhD Admission
For M.Sc admission, applicants take a DIAT entrance examination after applications close. PhD applicants may qualify through DIAT's PhD entrance test or through a valid GATE or UGC-NET score. A direct application path is available to DRDO-sponsored PhD candidates. PhD scholars carry out research-intensive work and are expected to contribute to active DRDO or defence-industry problems during the programme.
DIAT Pune Career Outcomes
DIAT does not follow the standard campus-placement model used by many engineering institutes. Its links with DRDO, HAL, BEL, ISRO, BARC and the wider defence sector shape the main career routes. M.Tech graduates commonly enter DRDO laboratories, public-sector defence organisations or private defence-technology companies.
| Career Pathway | Primary Organisations | Typical Entry Role |
|---|---|---|
| Defence PSU Employment | HAL, BEL, BEML, Ordnance Factories Board | Engineer/Scientist Grade C, INR 6 to 9 LPA |
| DRDO / ISRO / BARC Scientist | DRDO labs, ISRO centres, BARC | Scientist B through GATE or CEPTAM, INR 7 to 10 LPA |
