Visva-Bharati Courses and Fees

Programmes at Visva-Bharati range from undergraduate degrees to postgraduate, doctoral, diploma and certificate courses. Its Central University status allows it to charge subsidised fees across arts, science, music, fine arts, agriculture, education and social work.

Annual hostel charges for boys range from INR 1,200 to INR 5,400. Depending on the accommodation category, girls’ hostel fees run from INR 1,200 to INR 1,80,000 per year.

Visva-Bharati Admission Process

Visva-Bharati uses entrance scores and centralised counselling for its undergraduate and postgraduate admissions. The National Testing Agency conducts the CUET examinations used for these programmes.

UG admission: A CUET-UG score is required for every undergraduate programme. General category applicants must have passed Class 12 with at least 60 percent aggregate marks. The minimum is 55 percent for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PWD applicants. Science, agriculture, and performing arts courses may have additional subject requirements. The university prepares the final merit list and publishes it through its Samarth portal at vbadmission.in. Most UG courses do not have a separate written examination conducted by Visva-Bharati.

PG admission: Applicants need a valid CUET-PG score and a Bachelor’s degree with at least 55 percent aggregate marks. SC, ST, and PWD applicants need 50 percent. Selection follows CUET-PG merit and counselling. MFA and M.Music applicants may also face a practical assessment or portfolio review.

PhD admission: Applicants must hold a postgraduate degree with 55 percent aggregate marks, or 50 percent if they belong to a reserved category. The selection stages include the university’s research aptitude test, presentation of a research proposal, and a faculty interview. A valid UGC-NET/JRF qualification usually provides exemption from the written test.

Reservation policy: The university follows Central Government norms, with 15 percent reservation for SC, 7.5 percent for ST, 27 percent for OBC-NCL, and 10 percent for EWS applicants. Foreign and NRI students can apply for supernumerary seats.

Based on the 2025 and 2026 trends, General category applicants to arts and humanities courses generally needed CUET-UG scores of 600 to 700 out of 800 for shortlisting. Competition for seats is higher in the B.Sc Hons science and agriculture streams.

Visva-Bharati occupies a distinctive academic setting at Shantiniketan. Its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023 made it the first university campus in India to receive this recognition. • Hostels: Residential accommodation is available at Shantiniketan and Sriniketan. Boys pay INR 1,200 to INR 5,400 per year, while annual girls’ hostel charges range from INR 1,200 to INR 1,80,000 according to the accommodation category.
• Support facilities: The campuses contain a medical centre, ATM, bank branch, post office, cafeteria, and Wi-Fi coverage in the main areas.
