The Dual Degree is a newer 5-year course developed jointly with IIT Jodhpur and covers all 5 engineering disciplines. Such an option is not widely offered by other NITs in Northeast India. CSE receives the highest demand at NIT Manipur, followed by ECE. The M.Sc in Mathematics and Computing combines the two fields and accepts students from both mathematics and computing backgrounds.
Admission routes vary by programme. JoSAA coordinates B.Tech and Dual Degree seats, CCMT handles M.Tech admissions, and CCMN manages M.Sc admissions. The institute conducts its own Ph.D selection process.
Applicants seeking a B.Tech or Dual Degree seat must meet these conditions:
The selection process is completed in the following order:
NIT Manipur follows the Home State quota and reserves applicable seats for candidates domiciled in Manipur. For General category CSE seats, the JEE Main closing rank commonly lies between 40,000 and 65,000. Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering close at higher ranks. Through the same JoSAA route, students may choose the integrated B.Tech + M.Tech course and earn both degrees in 5 years.
An M.Tech applicant must have a B.Tech or B.E. in the relevant engineering field with at least 60%. The minimum is 55% for SC/ST candidates. A valid GATE score and participation in CCMT counselling are also required. GATE-qualified students admitted to M.Tech can receive the MHRD scholarship of INR 12,400 per month throughout the programme.
For M.Sc, students need a relevant B.Sc degree with a minimum of 60%, along with a valid JAM score. Seat allocation takes place through CCMN. NIT Manipur normally holds institute-level Ph.D admissions twice each year and publishes announcements on nitmanipur.ac.in. Engineering Ph.D applicants require an M.Tech or a B.Tech with GATE. Those shortlisted must attend the institute's written test and interview.
The Training and Placement cell arranges campus recruitment every year. In the 2024-25 season, 44 companies issued 145 offers. NIT Manipur achieved an overall placement rate of 81.40%, with the highest salary reaching INR 14.5 LPA and the average standing at INR 7.3 LPA.
| Branch | Placement Rate (2024-25) |
|---|---|
| CSE | 85.9% |
| Mechanical Engineering | 84.6% |
| Civil Engineering | 81.8% |
| ECE | 78.3% |
| Electrical Engineering | 70.6% |
Recruiters include L&T ECC, L&T Infotech, Infosys, Virtusa, Capgemini, ValueLabs, Samsung and KEC International. Software and IT positions generally produce the highest packages for CSE graduates. Infrastructure companies recruit Civil Engineering students, while manufacturing firms hire Mechanical Engineering graduates. Some students from each branch choose higher studies instead and use their GATE scores to enter M.Tech programmes at higher-ranked IITs and NITs.
NIT Manipur is evaluated under the Engineering category of the NIRF framework. Its 2025 result is the 151 to 200 band, compared with the 101 to 150 band in 2024 and 95th place in 2023.
| Ranking Body | Category | 2025 | 2024 | 2023 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NIRF | Engineering | 151-200 band | 101-150 band | 95 |
The institute's position has changed across recent NIRF editions. This pattern is also seen among newer NITs as their permanent facilities and research work continue to develop. Selected programmes have NBA-DCS accreditation, which confirms that their core engineering curricula meet the relevant quality standards. NIT Manipur does not currently take part in international ranking systems.
NIT Manipur students can use central government support available across the NIT system. The options include tuition fee exemption for SC/ST students, Merit-cum-Means assistance, the GATE stipend for M.Tech scholars and schemes offered through the National Scholarship Portal.
| Scheme | Eligibility | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| SC/ST Tuition Fee Exemption | Students from the SC or ST category in any programme | Complete tuition fee waiver under Ministry of Education norms for NITs |
| MCM Scholarship (Merit-cum-Means) | Parental income of up to INR 4.5 Lakhs per annum and the required academic performance after the first year | Up to INR 25,000 per annum |
| GATE Scholarship (M.Tech) | M.Tech students holding a valid qualifying GATE score | INR 12,400 per month during the programme |
| National Scholarship Portal (PM-USP) | 80% in the qualifying examination and parental income of up to INR 4.5 Lakhs | INR 20,000 per annum for professional degree students |
| Post Matric Scholarship (SC/ST) | SC or ST students whose parental income is up to INR 2.5 Lakhs | Maintenance allowance and payment of non-refundable fees |
Students submit the relevant scholarship forms through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. NIT Manipur's academic administration processes the M.Tech GATE stipend directly. The SC/ST tuition exemption is applied during admission.
The permanent NIT Manipur campus occupies 341.5 acres at Langol, Imphal. It lies within forested hills outside the main part of Imphal city. A working facility is also maintained at Takyelpat in Imphal, the location from which the institute began operating in 2010.
Facilities include separate hostels for boys and girls, departmental academic blocks, a central library, a canteen and a health centre staffed by resident medical personnel. Students and researchers also have access to nano-electronics laboratories and hardware-in-loop simulation equipment. A dedicated Training and Placement centre supports recruitment activity. The institute maintains links with the industrial ecosystem of Northeast India, while construction continues across its large permanent campus as part of long-term infrastructure development.
NIT Manipur, NIT Meghalaya and NIT Mizoram were all established as central NITs in 2010. Since each uses JEE Main and JoSAA for B.Tech admission, students commonly compare their campuses, fees, rankings, locations and available programmes before filling choices.
| Parameter | NIT Manipur | NIT Meghalaya | NIT Mizoram |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | Langol, Imphal, Manipur | Sohra, Meghalaya | Aizawl, Mizoram |

| Admission | JEE Main - JoSAA | JEE Main - JoSAA | JEE Main - JoSAA |
At 341.5 acres, NIT Manipur has a notably large permanent campus among these three institutes. Its B.Tech + M.Tech Dual Degree partnership with IIT Jodhpur is another point of difference. NIT Meghalaya has the stronger NIRF Engineering 2025 result, holding rank 83 while NIT Manipur falls within the 151 to 200 band. For many applicants, the deciding factors are the available engineering branch and the institute's location within its respective state capital area.

Read Full ReviewThe teaching faculty is well qualified to handle tasks as they have professors who have worked on high-profile national and corporate projects. The non-teaching staff are also well educated and can be conversed with in Hindi and English. One may avail of scholarships either through the National Scholarship Portal or keep an eye out for examinations held by companies such as ONGC.
The job placements are good as we have had world-renowned companies such as Warner Bros and IBM conduct drives. Placement drives begin from the 4th Semester onwards. The highest package was 10 LPA and the average was 5 to 3LPA
Read Full ReviewI have chosen electronics and communication engineering because I have had a keen interest in the subject after my 11th standard. the faculty that are here are well experienced and have a good knowledge of the subject. due to the conflict of the local people, the exams were not conducted on time but after a year they will be conducted properly as the situation is getting normal. the fees here are not as high as other colleges. we can apply for scholarships for financial assistance through the national scholarship portal.
As it was a bit, I preferred it above it's because of the recognition. for admission to this college, we need to clear an exam called jee mains that is conducted yearly. after getting the result of the exam we need to apply for counselling that is through another website called Josaa. after counselling seat will be allocated for the most preferred college based on cutoff rank for each category reservation is included. To prepare for the exam I have studied through YouTube which is more than enough because of the availability of content on the internet. after getting admission to the college I realized that this is an average college not like other top nits. the infrastructure is not up to the mark because it is situated in the northeast no concern is taken by the central government seriously.
Read Full ReviewThe course curriculum is a bit outdated but for CSE most topics are industry-relevant, the faculty here are very experienced and teach very well. I chose CSE in NIT Manipur because of my passion for tech and there's vast scope in this field . The semester exams are conducted timely and the difficulty level is moderate to hard.
Placement opportunities in NIT Manipur are good, the eligibility criteria to sit for placement is 7.5 cgpa(aggregate). The highest package of NITmn is 47 lpa while the average is 9.7 lpa, A total of 40 companies visited campus last year, and a total of 151 offers were made. some of the companies visited last year are Amazon, EDFORA, INCREFF, Veritas, Trellix, Infoedge, and many more.

If you talk about college placement then college placement is good means about 93 percent of students are placed in which the highest package is 47 lpa offered by Amazon and lowest is 4.5lpa and the average package is 10lpa.
Read Full ReviewBasically, I have been interested in this course from the beginning and concentrated on the cse and ECE courses in josaa counseling. Here the faculty is very good and are very strict, especially for our course, Exams will be held on time and are a little easier when compared to other colleges. The fee for a semester is 100000 including the hostel, which varies from the quota of the students.
Placements wise it is good. Also not that good as no big packages is reaching out to the campus but there will be a minimum package that a student needs will be provided, and there is also an option to opt for further competitive exams like gate, etc.
