IIIT Dharwad Admission Dates 2027

The next B.Tech admission process is linked to JEE Main 2027 and JoSAA 2027 counselling. The expected schedule for the 2027-28 cycle is given below.

JoSAA is the only channel used to allot B.Tech seats. For M.Tech, selection is based on GATE scores and seats are assigned through CCMT counselling. Ph.D selection takes place twice each year and includes a written screening test followed by an interview.

IIIT Dharwad Courses and Fees

Students can pursue B.Tech, M.Tech and Ph.D programmes at IIIT Dharwad. All four B.Tech branches follow the same fee structure. The programme duration, eligibility requirements and total fees are listed below according to the 2026 official data.

The B.Tech fee is higher than at government-subsidised IIITs because the institute follows a self-sustaining PPP model. Its operating expenditure is met through tuition revenue, without a direct government grant for each student. Eligible SC, ST and EWS students can use central government scholarship schemes to reduce their effective education costs.

IIIT Dharwad Admission Process

Admission routes differ by programme. B.Tech applicants use JEE Main and JoSAA, M.Tech applicants require GATE and CCMT, and Ph.D applicants complete the institute's departmental selection process.

B.Tech Admission

IIIT Dharwad does not conduct a separate entrance examination for B.Tech. A valid JEE Main score and participation in online JoSAA counselling are required.

In recent admission cycles, the General category JoSAA closing rank for B.Tech CSE at IIIT Dharwad has usually fallen between 10,000 and 20,000. Demand for Data Science and AI has increased, and its closing ranks have moved nearer to the CSE closing ranks.

M.Tech Admission

Applicants need a B.Tech or B.E. degree with at least 60% marks. The minimum is 55% for SC, ST and PwD applicants. They must also have a valid GATE score, after which M.Tech seats are allotted through CCMT counselling.

Ph.D Admission

The institute runs Ph.D admissions twice a year. Applicants with an M.Tech degree may apply, while B.Tech degree holders must qualify through GATE, UGC NET or CSIR NET. Eligible applicants first take a written screening test and then attend an interview conducted by the relevant department.

IIIT Dharwad Placements

The 2025 placement cycle ended with a highest package of INR 78.12 LPA, an average package of INR 12 LPA and a median CTC of INR 9.34 LPA. Across the cycle, 94 companies visited the campus and made 214 offers. The resulting placement rate was 82%. These results were higher than in 2024, when the maximum package was INR 46 LPA and the average stood at INR 9.57 LPA.

Branch-level figures for 2024 show an average package of INR 12.49 LPA for Data Science and AI. The corresponding averages were INR 9.59 LPA for ECE and INR 8.21 LPA for CSE. Recruiters represented IT products, IT services, analytics and core technology fields, with Data Science and AI regularly receiving the highest packages.

From 2024 to 2025, the placement rate increased from 62% to 82% as the placement cell and recruiter network developed. Growth in the highest package was led by the Data Science and AI specialisation, which attracted analytics, machine learning and product companies.

IIIT Dharwad Scholarships

Central government scholarship programmes are available to eligible IIIT Dharwad students from SC, ST, OBC-NCL and EWS groups. These schemes can help lower the cost of the INR 21.72 Lakhs B.Tech programme.

Students must submit applications for central scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal at the beginning of each academic year. Apart from access to government-mandated schemes, IIIT Dharwad does not publish a separate institution-funded merit scholarship.

IIIT Dharwad Campus and Infrastructure

The permanent IIIT Dharwad campus occupies 60 acres in Dharwad, Karnataka, and has been in use since November 2021. Academic facilities include 30 classrooms, computing laboratories, a central library and research spaces for individual departments. The institute has 925 undergraduate students, 17 doctoral scholars and 32 faculty members.

Residential facilities provide 300 rooms for male students and 100 rooms for female students. Students live on campus while retaining access to Dharwad-Hubli, Karnataka's second-largest urban agglomeration. Before the permanent site opened, the institute conducted its academic activities from a temporary campus at the IT Park in Hubli.
