NIT DURGAPUR - A COMPLETE OVERVIEW

- The overall working culture in the college is very good. The campus is clean and green. Syllabus is good.
- Placements and internship opportunities are pretty good.
- Library is very good. We can issue any book and if the book is not available, they buy the book immediately and make it availbale
Dislikes
- Since the college is very old, the instruments are pretty outdated.
- The hostel food is very poor and tasteless.
Remarks :
I prepared for the JEE exams and scored 97 percentile and 33711 rank. I could not get past JEE advanced. So now, I had to sit for counsellings to get into colleges. According to my rank and through previous years seat allotment result, I was sure to get core branches in some good NITs and circuital branches in other low ranked NITs and IIITs. Through further research I found that core branches in NIT Jamshedpur and NIT Durgapur have been doing pretty good in terms of placements, higher education and research. So I filled the core branches of these two colleges in my JOSAA and CSAB counselling. After 6 round of JOSAA counselling and 2 rounds of CSAB counselling I got NIT Durgapur, ranked 9th among NITs and 44 among all engineering colleges in India according to NIRF.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I have been enrolled in the branch of Mechanical Engineering. Though this branch has been considered dead, it's an evergreen branch. The mechanical Engineering department at NIT Durgapur has been doing pretty well. It has evolved according to industrial needs and advancing technology. Students are taught all the new and advanced technologies including modelling, robotics, CAD and MATLAB. Focus is given to both theory and practice. But since the institute is very old. Most of the instruments are outdated. The syllabus is also very vast as compared to other branches and hence more study time is required. Exams are conducted twice a semester - one midsem and other end sem. The question difficulty is medium but if you have paid attention to the class, all the things are discussed in the class.
Internships Opportunities :
Since, I have just started my 2nd year in the college, I haven't applied for any internships yet. But as far as I know from my seniors, the internships are provided for the 3rd year and 4th year students. The companies like Apple, Reliance, TCS, Accenture, Microsoft etc come for the placements in the college.
Placement Experience :
Internship and placements at NIT Durgapur is very good. Almost 75% students get placed on campus and some pursue further studies. Of of these places students 25% students get a package of more than 15 lacs per annum. Around 180 - 200 companies visit the campus including big companies like Apple, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Infosys, Wipro, BHEL, ONGC, IOCL etc

Campus Life :
Campus Life is the best part for any college student. In NIT Durgapur, the main fest includes - RecstaCy (cultural fest) - February / March Aarohan (tech fest) - February Recrave (food festival) - September E - Summit ( entrepreneurial fest) -January / February. All the books required are available in the library and if it's not there we can request for the book and those are available the faculties. Sports is something which is not greatly promoted in the college. There is only and fruitful environment for football. Only single court is available for badminton. Though teams are sent for Inter NIT competitions they are not kept in focus all year round. The teams are formed just before the competition and are dissolved after that. There are a lot of clubs available whose activities are controlled by students and are overviews by college faculties and each clubs are given an annual budget to carry forward their works. If needed extra money, the clubs need to look for sponsors.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes, I have opted for a hostel. The rooms are average. We are being provided with a chair, a table and an almirah. There are common shared bathrooms. The mess food is of poor quality. Though the mess is student-run, the quality and taste of food are not good. The cleanliness is average. Any problem in the hostel mainly related to electricity, wifi and water are solved pretty fast. But other complaints like civil and furniture are ignored.

Faculties are well qualified but there is lack of experience teacher as most of the teacher are from local area and the college does not try to bring talent across different region of India. Also college does not have standard process of selection.
My experience at Shri Shikshayatan College
Placement Experience :
We have campus placements in our college. Some of the most famous companies which visit every year is TCS and Cognizant. The salary is very average around 1.5-2 LPA for freshers. You have to maintain a very decent profile with 0 active backlogs to get a job directly via our college placement. There are around 50-100 students who get places every year from our batch via campus placement.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose bcom hons because i was a commerce student in school. The course is well taught in our college. The syllabus is same for all the calcutta university students. The faculty is knowledgeable and well trained. All the teachers are friendly and teach us thoroughly. The classes are held regularly and on time. We had exams every 6 months. Let’s say 1st semester exam will be held after 4-5 months of joining. We had to give internal exams of 20 marks after 4 months of classes which was followed by external examination of 80 marks (nearly 1 month after that). The difficulty level is somewhere around 9/10 for other subjects and 10/10 for accounting and Tax.
Affordable Government Pharmacy Education with Strong Academics but Limited Industry Exposure
Placement Experience :
Placements at the Institute of Pharmacy Jalpaiguri are not good because their is no in campus placement. Most students pursue higher studies or find jobs off-campus.The average package ranges from ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package can go up to around ?4–5 LPA depending on the company and role. Many students prefer higher studies such as M.Pharm, MBA, or preparation for competitive exams to improve career prospects. After completing my degree, I plan to either pursue higher studies or gain industry experience to build a strong career in the pharmaceutical sector.
My honest opinion on P. G. INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
Placement Experience :
The placement and internship cell of the college was really bad though. They did give us internship in different hospitals which were unpaid and the offered jobs were for experienced people, not for inexperienced or freshers. Only this side of the college was lacking. Otherwise, good. I had an job opportunity from this college which offered me 10000 a month.
ACADEMY OF TECHNOLOGY REVIEW
Placement Experience :
There is a good opportunity of placements in AOT as it is a very renowned college for a long time. The previous years placement are ~200%, ~150%, ~90% and for this year too it will be good. The college prepares the students properly for placements through trainings.

Xavier law school is still in its nascent stage and hence due to this reason only two batches have graduated as of now. the highest package was not that good, and it was average rather and all the students were also not placed. many opted for litigation and higher study.

College don't provides any placement. But this college is little bit famous of our locality areas. If you need job the degree from this college will be valuable. This a downside of our college. I don't think we will face problem for the college degree.
