JIPMER Admission Dates 2026

JIPMER admission is managed through different national admission routes. MBBS seats are filled through NEET UG and MCC counselling. MD and MS admission is through INI CET. DM and M.Ch admission is through INI SS. B.Sc Nursing and Allied Health Sciences admission follows NEET UG or JIPMER merit rules, as notified for the course.

JIPMER MBBS seats are listed in the MCC All India Quota seat matrix, and students register through mcc.nic.in. JIPMER PG medical seats are listed in the INI CET seat matrix through aiimsexams.ac.in. JIPMER does not require a separate college-level admission form or fee apart from the registration process of the concerned centralised exam.

JIPMER Courses and Fees

JIPMER offers medical, allied health, public health, postgraduate and super-speciality courses. Students can enter at the UG level through MBBS or allied health courses, continue to MD or MS, and move further to DM or M.Ch in selected specialities.

JIPMER Admission Process

JIPMER admits students through national-level examination and counselling systems. The institute does not conduct an institutional entrance test for MBBS, does not hold interviews for regular admission, and does not offer management quota or NRI quota seats.

MBBS Admission

For MBBS, JIPMER uses NEET UG rank followed by MCC counselling.

• Eligibility: 10+2 with PCB and English, minimum 50% aggregate. The minimum is 40% for SC, ST, OBC and PwBD candidates. The student must be at least 17 years old by December 31, 2026.
• Total MBBS seats: 243, with 182 at Puducherry and 61 at Karaikal.
• Puducherry UT domicile reservation: 64 seats, including 48 at Puducherry and 16 at Karaikal.
• Central reservation: SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC-NCL 27%, EWS 10%, and PwBD 5% horizontal reservation.
• JIPMER does not have management quota or NRI quota at either campus.

In MCC 2025, the MBBS OC closing rank was 260 for JIPMER Puducherry and 5,731 for JIPMER Karaikal. A student with a rank between 261 and 5,731 who does not get JIPMER Puducherry may still get an MBBS seat at Karaikal. The Karaikal campus follows the same INI-level curriculum and subsidised fee system.

MD and MS Admission (INI CET)

JIPMER does not use NEET PG for MD and MS admission. PG medical seats are filled through INI CET, the Institutes of National Importance Combined Entrance Test conducted by AIIMS New Delhi twice a year for January and July sessions. The same counselling process covers AIIMS institutes, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, and NIMHANS. A NEET PG score alone is not enough for JIPMER MD or MS admission.

DM and M.Ch Admission (INI SS)

DM and M.Ch seats at JIPMER are allotted through INI SS, also called the INI Super Speciality route. This is different from NEET SS, which is used by non-INI medical colleges. INI SS covers DM courses such as Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology and Medical Oncology, and M.Ch courses such as Neuro Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Urology and Surgical Gastroenterology.

JIPMER Placements and Career Outcomes

JIPMER does not run regular campus placement drives. After MBBS, students complete a compulsory 1-year rotating internship at JIPMER Hospital. During this period, they work across key clinical departments such as General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Orthopaedics.

There is no mandatory service bond at JIPMER. After finishing the 1-year internship, MBBS graduates can sit for PG entrance exams, join government service, or begin private practice. The 2,059-bed hospital gives students strong clinical exposure, which helps them compete for senior residency and fellowship roles.

JIPMER Scholarships

JIPMER’s low fee structure is a major financial benefit for students, with the total MBBS fee at INR 1.10 Lakhs. Students can also get scholarship support through central government, Puducherry UT government, and institute-linked schemes.

JIPMER also offers low-cost hostel accommodation on campus. Subsidised fees, resident stipends under central government rules, and scholarship options make JIPMER one of the more affordable top medical institutions in India.

JIPMER Campus and Infrastructure

The JIPMER Puducherry campus covers 195 acres, equal to 79 hectares. It functions as a complete medical university campus with academic buildings, a teaching hospital, student residential quarters, and clinical research facilities. The campus is inside Puducherry city and is connected by road and rail to Chennai, which is 160 km away, and Bengaluru, which is 315 km away.

JIPMER Hospital has more than 2,059 beds across specialities, making it one of South India’s largest tertiary care hospitals. Students get heavy clinical exposure from the early clinical years because of the patient load. The hospital includes dedicated wards for Oncology, Neurology, Cardiology, Nephrology, and Neonatology.

JIPMER Karaikal is the second campus. It offers the 61-seat MBBS programme and has its own hospital and subsidised hostel facilities. The Karaikal campus is 140 km from the main Puducherry campus.

JIPMER vs AIIMS Delhi vs PGIMER

Students with top NEET UG ranks often compare JIPMER with AIIMS New Delhi and PGIMER Chandigarh. All three are Institutes of National Importance, receive central government support, have no management quota, and keep their fees highly subsidised.

AIIMS New Delhi has the strongest brand value, clinical volume, and research output. JIPMER has 243 MBBS seats compared with 125 at AIIMS Delhi, so it is the most seat-accessible among the top INIs. PGIMER does not offer MBBS. For PG medical admission, all three use INI CET instead of NEET PG.
