BHU Admission Dates 2026

BHU uses different admission routes for the 2026-27 session. CUET UG is used for undergraduate arts, science, commerce, law, and agriculture courses through the BHU CAP-UG portal. NEET UG counselling through MCC is used for MBBS and BDS. MBA admission is based on CAT 2025, while PG courses use CUET PG or GAT-B depending on the programme.

BHU Courses and Fees

BHU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, medical, management, agriculture, law, commerce, science, arts, veterinary science, and technology programmes. Since it is a central government university, many courses have subsidised fees. The total fee ranges from less than INR 1 Lakh for many humanities courses to INR 3,20,000 for professional B.Tech courses in food and dairy technology.

IMS BHU also runs MD, MS, DM, and M.Ch courses for postgraduate medical training. Other postgraduate options include LLM, M.Com, and MA programmes across humanities and social science departments.

BHU Admission Process

BHU admissions are not handled through one common test for all courses. CUET UG is used for most undergraduate programmes in arts, science, commerce, and law. MBBS and BDS seats are filled through NEET UG counselling by MCC. MBA selection is based on CAT score, followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview at Varanasi.

UG Admission (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BALLB)

For regular UG courses, students need a valid CUET UG 2026 score. After the CUET result, applicants must register on the BHU CAP-UG portal at bhucuet.samarth.edu.in. Class 12 marks do not add weight to the merit score and are used only to break a tie.

• BHU BALLB Hons admission is through CUET UG and the BHU CAP-UG portal, not through CLAT
• The commitment fee after seat allotment is INR 2,500 for General, OBC, and EWS students and INR 500 for SC, ST, and PwD students
• Central government reservation rules apply to all UG courses

Round 1 allotment was released on August 1, 2026, and further rounds are still in progress. BHU does not provide management quota seats. Admission is based only on merit.

MBBS and BDS Admission (IMS BHU)

IMS BHU has 100 MBBS and 63 BDS seats. Because it is part of a central university, every seat, including institutional quota seats, is allotted through MCC counselling at mcc.nic.in. UP state NEET counselling does not allot IMS BHU seats. Students must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Class 12 and must hold a valid NEET UG 2026 score. The PCB minimum is 50% for General and EWS candidates and 40% for SC, ST, and OBC-NCL candidates. For General Category MBBS admission, the NEET UG closing rank has usually remained in the top 20,000 to 30,000 range because the centrally funded seat is in high demand.

MBA Admission

The Institute of Management Studies at BHU offers 136 total MBA seats, including 118 regular seats and 18 paid seats, across MBA and MBA (International Business). The final score is calculated from CAT at 50%, Academic Record at 20%, Group Discussion at 15%, and Personal Interview at 15%. General and EWS candidates need at least 50% marks in graduation, while SC and ST candidates need 45%. GD and PI take place offline at the Varanasi campus. For the 2026-28 batch, BHU used the CAT 2025 cycle and conducted GD-PI in March 2026.

PG Admission (MA, M.Sc, M.Com, LLM)

Most PG courses at BHU accept CUET PG scores. M.Sc Life Sciences programmes use GAT-B scores. Once results are declared, candidates register through the BHU PG portal at admission.bhu.ac.in. CUET PG spot rounds are ongoing as of August 2026.

BHU Placements and Career Outcomes

Placement results at BHU differ by faculty and course. As reported in NIRF 2025, 626 UG and 1,341 PG students received placements in the latest cycle. The median salary was INR 9 LPA for UG 4-year courses and INR 9 LPA for PG 2-year courses. PG 3-year courses, including medical PG programmes, recorded a median package of INR 13.5 LPA.

MBA students from the Institute of Management Studies enter areas such as banking, finance, FMCG, and consulting. Recruiters include public sector banks, insurance companies, and mid-size corporates. MBBS graduates from IMS BHU commonly prepare for NEET PG to enter MD or MS courses. Their major career routes are government service and private hospital roles. The IMS BHU internship stipend follows central government norms. Law graduates from BHU often move toward judicial services, civil services, and legal practice in the Varanasi and Allahabad High Court regions.

BHU Campus and Infrastructure

BHU's Varanasi campus covers more than 1,300 acres and is among Asia's largest university campuses. It works like a residential township with academic departments, hostels, a hospital, temples, markets, sports facilities, and staff housing. The campus is located near the banks of the Ganga in Varanasi.

Sir Sunder Lal Hospital, attached to IMS BHU, has over 2,000 beds and serves as a major teaching and tertiary care hospital for eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The Faculty of Performing Arts has separate spaces for music, dance, and theatre. BHU's library system includes a central library and reading rooms at faculty level. University hostels house thousands of students, and allotment is based on merit and proximity rules.

The campus can be reached from Varanasi Junction railway station and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport. The main entry is the BHU gate at Lanka on the Grand Trunk Road. Sports facilities include playgrounds, an indoor sports complex, and spaces for cricket, football, and athletics. BHU's annual technical and cultural festivals attract students from universities across India.

BHU vs Delhi University vs AMU

Students comparing large central universities often consider Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, and Aligarh Muslim University for arts, sciences, commerce, law, and medical-related options. All three are UGC-recognised central universities, and all use CUET for regular UG admission.

BHU gives students a fully residential campus life and strong options in arts, science, agriculture, and medicine within one large campus. DU offers the advantage of Delhi's urban and professional environment, India's widest UG programme spread, and FMS Delhi for MBA. AMU provides a similar residential central university setting with strengths in STEM and humanities in western Uttar Pradesh. Students should compare campus style, course depth, and distance from home before choosing among them.
