The five-year integrated courses let students continue from undergraduate to postgraduate study without seeking separate GATE-based admission. Data Science and Nanotechnology form part of the institute's developing research areas.
NIT Mizoram uses national entrance examinations and central counselling for its engineering programmes. Doctoral selection takes place directly at the institute.
JoSAA counselling is the only admission route for all B.Tech branches and the five-year integrated programmes. These courses do not have management quota seats or direct admission.
Seats are divided between the Home State quota for candidates domiciled in Mizoram and the Other State quota. Closing ranks under the Home State quota are significantly lower for Mizoram residents. Other State closing ranks usually fall within the range seen at newer NITs in the northeastern region. Applicants should check the latest round-wise figures on the official JoSAA portal.
CCMT counselling fills seats in Microelectronics and VLSI Technology and Power and Energy Systems Engineering according to GATE scores.
PhD applicants are shortlisted at the institute level using GATE or UGC-NET results. Those shortlisted must take a written test and attend an interview before the relevant departmental committee.
The 2025 B.Tech placement drive ended with 91% of students placed. Across individual branches, placement levels were between 89% and 97%. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering and ECE received offers from infrastructure companies and public-sector employers, while IT and software firms accounted for most of the higher-value offers.
Construction, energy and manufacturing companies contribute many opportunities in the core branches. CSE and ECE students are mainly recruited by software product and IT services businesses.
| Metric | 2025 Placement Season |
|---|---|
| Highest package | INR 35 LPA |
| Average package | INR 9.56 LPA |
| Overall placement rate | 91% |
| Placement range across branches | 89% to 97% |
Amazon, Infosys, Wipro, L&T, ONGC, TCS, HCL and Cognizant are among the institute's main recruiters. Employers from construction, power, and oil and gas recruit Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering students, while software and IT services companies hire from CSE and ECE.
In the 2025 national engineering assessment, NIT Mizoram entered the top 150 and ranked ahead of several newer NITs in northeastern and hill states.
| Ranking Body | Category | 2025 Rank |
|---|---|---|
| NIRF | Engineering | 101 to 150 band |
The institute is based in Chaltlang, Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. After starting from a temporary campus, it gradually added more physical facilities. Students currently have access to hostels, a central library, computing laboratories, a health centre and a sports ground.
Work on the permanent campus continues at the existing location. Memorandums of understanding with IITs, research organisations and other academic institutions support joint research and exchange opportunities for faculty members and students.
Lengpui Airport is 32 km from Aizawl, while roads connect the city with Assam and other northeastern states. Its setting in Mizoram's hilly capital offers a quiet place for academic work.
Applicants with similar JoSAA ranks, particularly those from northeastern states, often compare NIT Mizoram with NIT Manipur and NIT Nagaland. Each institute was founded in 2010, holds Institute of National Importance status under the NIT Act 2007, and uses JEE Main scores and JoSAA counselling for B.Tech admission.

Placements are good as it is an national institute of technology but in recent years placement is increasing year my year this is our senior got 44 lpa PPO from Microsoft and the average of cse is 12 lpa , ece is 10 lpa,

Read Full ReviewI had a great interest for mechanics and maths so I chose this course. The faculty is well qualified and experienced and have great methods of teaching along with interaction. Exams are conducted 2 times per semester and have a good level almost difficult.
If you have cgpa above 7 you are eligible to sit in placements. The overall placement was 80 % with 14.5 lpa as highest on campus and 22 lpa off campus. Some non circuital branches got their 100 percent students placed.
Read Full ReviewFaculties are very helpful in nature. Seniors are also very helpful in nature. Course curriculum is also decent but in Communicative English there will be too much assignments and it will make you sad.
Here for Cse and Ece around 80 to 93% on campus placement takes place but for CE , ME and EE placement % is 100. and Mathematics and Computing is a new branch so first batch for placement will go in 2027.
Read Full ReviewMechanical engineering has option in government jobs and it is a good branch to secure a career in the engineering field. Faculties are strict and well-ed. every 2 months exam will conducted and the exams are very difficult and the time given for exams is also very less. Students can get scholarships via NSP.
Placements are good for students because there are number of students is less so every student faces less competition in placements. There are good companies to visit like Vedanta, jsw, Adani and many more. there is an internship opportunity that is also good in this college because many students just focus on core biz placements in the core is good in comparison to non-core.
Read Full ReviewAccording to my rank I got a seat, but I did not have any specific choice to choose courses. I only wanted to get a seat in NITs. In the civil engineering department, all the faculties are highly educated some teachers are from IITs and other reputed colleges. all the exams like class tests, mid-semester exams, and end-semester exams are conducted in a timely and the difficulty level depends on the faculty. it also depends on you and your mind. In Academics, I think NIT MZ is one of the best colleges. Due to government college, you will pay based on your family income I'm an OBC student with a non-creamy layer I paid Rs 20550 for one semester so I can complete my B.tech degree in almost less than 2 lakh. As you know this is a government college so you will get a scholarship. I got a scholarship of Rs 93450. name of the scholarship was "PM Yashshvi Scholarship". If you are a general student and your family income is more than 8 lakh per annum then you will not get any scholarship.
Eligibility criteria for placement, you must have a 6 CGPA or higher. But for better placement, you must have an 8 CGPA or higher because many companies have criteria like only those students can give interviews with those who have an 8 CGPA or higher. Top recruiters like L&T, Adobe, Ashok Leyland, and many others till now. the highest package is 20LPA till now this year and the average package is almost 8LPA. Till now, 45% of students have been placed. 28 students have been placed to date with Avishek Gope(CSE), Mukul Pathak(CE) etc. I want to get a good placement in a good company.
Read Full ReviewFaculty is for core subjects then that of it here . Electrical faculty is very strict here, if you got CSE here it is not good here if you got ECE or EEE or mech it a great opportunity to you . For civil also it is not that good.
I don't choose this collage, this is my fate in JEE mains. Then I don't know how this NIT is but now I regretting to come here this far from my home.my home town is Andhra Pradesh. But faculty is good here.
