IIT Palakkad Admission Dates 2027

The admission cycle for the 2027-31 B.Tech batch starts with JEE Main 2027. Students preparing for admission can use the tentative schedule below. The National Testing Agency and IIT Council will announce the confirmed dates.

IIT Palakkad Courses and Fees

Students can pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes in engineering, science and humanities at IIT Palakkad. The main courses, study periods, entry requirements and total institutional fees are listed below.

The six B.Tech branches are Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Data Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. At the M.Tech level, 9 specialisations cover areas such as advanced computing, power systems, structural engineering, thermal engineering and water resources.

IIT Palakkad Admission Process

IIT Palakkad uses national entrance examinations and the relevant centralised or institute-level selection process for admission. Applicants must first meet the course eligibility rules, take the required examination and then complete counselling, testing or an interview, depending on the programme.

B.Tech Admission

For B.Tech admission, a student must qualify JEE Main to become eligible for JEE Advanced. The final seat is assigned through Joint Seat Allocation Authority counselling based on the JEE Advanced result.

• Complete Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, securing at least 75% in aggregate. The minimum is 65% for SC and ST applicants.
• For the 2026 cycle, applicants had to be born on or after October 1, 2001.
• Seat selection depends on the JEE Advanced rank, category and branch choices entered during JoSAA choice filling.
• After receiving an allotment, report to the institute for original document checks and payment of the required fee.

For General category applicants in JEE Advanced 2025, closing ranks extended from 5,736 for Computer Science and Engineering to 14,852 for Civil Engineering. Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering closed between these limits. The Materials Engineering range was similar to Civil Engineering, while Data Sciences followed a range similar to Electrical Engineering.

M.Tech and M.Sc Admissions

M.Tech applicants need a valid GATE score in the appropriate discipline and take part in centralised CCMT counselling. M.Sc selection uses JAM scores and the centralised JOAPS counselling portal. Applicants with strong scores in the relevant GATE or JAM papers are shortlisted directly.

Ph.D and M.S. Research Admissions

IIT Palakkad conducts Ph.D and M.S. (Research) admission twice each year, with January and July cycles. Applicants require a qualifying GATE, UGC-NET or equivalent score. The concerned department then holds a written test, an interview or both. Full-time research scholars can receive funded stipends through MHRD or PMRF fellowships.

IIT Palakkad Placements

During the Batch 2025 placement season, IIT Palakkad achieved a highest offer of INR 52 LPA and an overall average CTC of INR 13.98 LPA. The placement rate reached 86.67%. Students also secured 21 pre-placement offers, which was the institute's highest PPO total up to that point. In 2024-25, 203 companies participated and offered 276 profiles.

Recruiters in 2024-25 included Sprinklr, Texas Instruments, AMD, MediaTek, Arista Networks, Versa Networks, Wabtec Corp, MathWorks, L&T Group, Maruti Suzuki, Accenture, Turing and HCL. With 15 offers, Turing made the largest number of offers that season.

IIT Palakkad Rankings

IIT Palakkad has moved upward in the NIRF Engineering ranking since first entering the framework. Its 2025 position reflects improvements in teaching quality and research output while work on the permanent campus continues.

Within the group of IITs founded in 2015, IIT Palakkad was placed 64th in NIRF Engineering 2025, compared with IIT Tirupati at 57th and IIT Dharwad at 77th. Teaching, Learning and Resources was one of IIT Palakkad's stronger measures, with a score of 74.28. Research and Perception have room to improve as the number of faculty members and Ph.D output increases.

IIT Palakkad Scholarships

Financial support at IIT Palakkad mainly follows the central government Merit-cum-Means scholarship system used across the IITs. Tuition fees are automatically waived for SC and ST students.

Eligible M.Tech students receive a GATE scholarship of INR 12,400 per month from AICTE. Ph.D scholars may obtain JRF or SRF stipends from MHRD, DST or another funding agency, depending on their project.

IIT Palakkad Campus and Infrastructure

The permanent IIT Palakkad campus occupies a 504-acre site at Kanjikode, roughly 8 km from Palakkad town. Palakkad is a district headquarters in northern Kerala near the Tamil Nadu border and has road and railway links.

Facilities already completed include academic blocks, student hostels, faculty housing, a central library and a student wellness clinic. Research infrastructure includes the Central Instrumentation Facility, Central Materials Fabrication Facility and High-Performance Computing centre. A swimming pool, outdoor courts and other sports facilities form part of the campus master plan, with construction continuing in phases.

Coimbatore is 50 km from the institute, while Thrissur is 65 km away. These nearby cities widen students' access to employment and social opportunities. The campus remains green while further development continues.

IIT Palakkad vs IIT Tirupati vs IIT Dharwad

IIT Palakkad, IIT Tirupati and IIT Dharwad were all founded in 2015 as part of the Ministry of Education's IIT expansion initiative. JEE Advanced qualifiers with ranks from 10,000 to 20,000 often assess these institutes by available branches, preferred location and the progress of campus development.

In NIRF Engineering 2025, IIT Tirupati ranked above IIT Palakkad, while IIT Palakkad ranked above IIT Dharwad. IIT Palakkad may appeal to students from Kerala and other parts of southern India, and its nearness to Coimbatore supports industry access. IIT Dharwad draws an advantage from Karnataka's established technology network, especially its proximity to Bangalore.
