IIT Bhilai Admission Dates 2027

The B.Tech admission schedule for the 2027 batch is expected to cover two JEE Main sessions, followed by JEE Advanced and JoSAA seat allocation. JEE Main 2027 is planned for January and April 2027, while JEE Advanced 2027 is tentatively due in May 2027. Only students placed among the top 2,50,000 JEE Main rank holders can take JEE Advanced.

M.Tech and Executive M.Tech follow a different admission calendar. GATE 2027 and CCMT 2027 activities generally take place in May and June 2027. Admission to the M.Sc programmes is based on JAM, which stands for Joint Admission to M.Sc. Each programme uses the admission route shown below.

IIT Bhilai Courses and Fees

Students can choose from seven B.Tech branches, thirteen M.Tech specialisations, three M.Sc programmes, three Executive M.Tech tracks, and Ph.D. research options in several departments. The table lists each course's duration, entry requirements, and fee for General category students.

SC, ST, and PwD students are not charged tuition fees at IIT Bhilai. Where applicable, they can also receive the Central Sector Scholarship of INR 20,000 per annum and support through the Full Fee Remission scheme. General and OBC students whose family income is below INR 1 Lakh per annum also qualify for complete fee remission.

IIT Bhilai Admission Process

Entry to the IIT Bhilai B.Tech programme is based on JEE Advanced, followed by centralised seat allotment through JoSAA. Before taking JEE Advanced, a student must qualify through JEE Main and be among its top 2,50,000 rank holders.

B.Tech Admission Through JEE Advanced

Applicants need at least 75% aggregate in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The minimum is 65% for SC, ST, and PwD applicants. They must also hold a valid JEE Advanced rank. Since 2023, the admission rules have not applied an upper age limit.

• Take either JEE Main Session 1 or Session 2 and secure a place among the top 2,50,000 rank holders eligible for JEE Advanced.
• Complete registration and sit for JEE Advanced 2027, which is tentatively planned for May 2027.
• Once the result is released, join JoSAA 2027 counselling and place IIT Bhilai and the preferred branch in the choice list.
• Confirm the allotted JoSAA seat before the deadline by paying the seat acceptance fee.
• Visit IIT Bhilai in August 2027 for enrolment and verification of documents.

Among IIT Bhilai's branches, CSE had the most competitive General category cutoff in Round 1 of 2025, with a JEE Advanced closing rank of 6,384. DSAI closed at 7,568. The closing ranks for ECE and EE fell between 8,000 and 12,000. Metallurgical and Materials Engineering was available up to a closing rank of 14,916, making it the most accessible branch for General category students.

M.Tech Admission Through GATE

For M.Tech admission, students need a B.Tech or an equivalent degree with at least 60% aggregate and a valid GATE score. Seats are allotted through CCMT. An AICTE fellowship of INR 12,400 per month is available to GATE-qualified M.Tech students.

M.Sc Admission Through JAM

Admission to M.Sc courses uses JAM, the Joint Admission to M.Sc examination. Students must select the paper linked to their intended programme: Mathematics for M.Sc Mathematics and Computing, Physics for M.Sc Physics, or Chemistry for M.Sc Chemistry. JoSAA/JOSAA counselling is used to allocate seats.

Ph.D. and Executive M.Tech Admission

The institute conducts Ph.D. admissions twice a year, in January and July. Selection uses GATE, NET, or the IIT Bhilai entrance test, followed by a personal interview. Executive M.Tech is designed for working professionals. IIT Bhilai selects applicants directly after assessing their work experience and conducting a shortlisting interview, and a GATE score is not required.

IIT Bhilai Placements

More than 100 companies from technology, consulting, finance, and core engineering took part in IIT Bhilai's 2025 placement drive. The eligible batch achieved a placement rate of 73.54%. The highest offer was INR 48.92 LPA, while the overall average package stood at INR 13.28 LPA. For B.Tech alone, the average reached INR 15.1 LPA.

Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Accenture, and Deloitte were among the main recruiters in 2025. Core engineering businesses and fintech firms also hired students. CSE and DSAI regularly record the strongest average packages. In recent placement cycles, the M.Tech specialisations in DSAI and Electric Vehicle Engineering reached 100% placement, showing strong employer demand in these areas. Compared with older IITs, IIT Bhilai's smaller batches allow recruiters to give more attention to each applicant.

IIT Bhilai Rankings

IIT Bhilai moved from 73rd place in NIRF Engineering 2024 to 72nd place in 2025. Its ranking has improved as faculty recruitment, research activity, and placement systems have developed since the institute opened in 2016. It is among the higher-ranked newer IITs.

IIT Bhilai Scholarships

Students at IIT Bhilai can use central government scholarship programmes and the fee-remission policies followed across IITs. Support depends on category, family income, course, or qualification status.

IIT Bhilai Campus and Infrastructure

The permanent IIT Bhilai campus covers 442 acres at Kutelabhata in Chhattisgarh's Durg district. Road and railway links connect the campus with Bhilai and Raipur. Raipur airport is 80 km away. Students can reach everyday services in the Bhilai-Durg urban area, while the nearby Bhilai Steel Plant supports industrial interaction in core engineering subjects.

Academic and student facilities include departmental research laboratories, smart classrooms, a central library, a computer centre, student activity centres, and hostels for male and female students. Sports infrastructure includes a cricket ground, basketball courts, and a swimming pool. The campus has round-the-clock security and follows strict anti-ragging policies.

As an IIT, the institute receives support for funded laboratories, faculty posts, and research activity at a level comparable with older IITs. Its smaller student population gives it a lower student-to-faculty ratio than larger, established IITs and supports more individual attention. Specialisations such as DSAI and EV Technology represent its focus on emerging fields.

IIT Bhilai vs IIT Tirupati vs IIT Dharwad

Students with JEE Advanced ranks suitable for IIT Bhilai often consider IIT Tirupati and IIT Dharwad as alternatives. These institutes were founded during the same 2015 to 2016 phase, are located in developing smaller cities, and generally admit students from a similar JEE Advanced rank range. Each also holds the status of an Institute of National Importance.

IIT Bhilai provides seven B.Tech branches, compared with five each at IIT Tirupati and IIT Dharwad. Its DSAI and Mechatronics branches are distinct options for applicants, while IIT Tirupati currently has a slightly stronger NIRF Engineering position. All three provide an IIT degree, NAAC accreditation, full tuition waivers for SC and ST students, and GATE fellowships for M.Tech students. For most applicants, the useful points of comparison are location and the availability of a preferred branch.
