Mahatma Gandhi Central University (MGCUB) is a central university, situated in Motihari, Bihar. Since its inception in 2016, MGCUB is proving to be one of the best central universities in India. The Faculty members at MGCU are well-experienced and highly qualified. 

The University has as many as 20 departments and 7 schools offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs in diverse educational fields ranging from Arts, Science to Engineering. Admission to these courses are done on the basis of entrance examinations conducted yearly, namely CUET/ JEE MAIN/ GATE/ UG-NET/JRF/ SET/ JEST. There are reservations made for the applicants from SC/ST/OBC categories.

  • National E- Conference on Advances in Business, Management, and Technology (NCABMT 2021) will be held on 25th-26th June 2021.
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee Central Library is an area of learning, researching, and accentuating knowledge with access to more than 26,000 volumes of books, available not only for students but also for teachers and staff. The library has been sectioned according to genres of study and facilities like computers, access to WiFi, and air conditioning are provided.
  • E-Vimarsh or E-learning - MGCUB has introduced eResources - An ICT initiative for e-learning. The institution has its own YouTube channel where insightful lectures by renowned speakers of the institution are available. To make it easier for students to know their respective departments and faculty, a PowerPoint presentation is also available department-wise on the most common topics related to their area of study.
  • The University has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with six eminent institutions, reputed nationally and internationally, for valuable exchange programs of learning and teaching, to provide the best of learning opportunities to the students.

MGCU Bihar: Placements  

The University has set up a placement cell that recognizes students and their abilities and guides them to the job opportunities best suited for them with utmost commitment.

  • The highest package offered in 2019 was INR 22 LPA.
  • 50+ job offers with an average salary of INR 2.50 Lacs per annum during 2016-17 and 2017-18 were offered and are still continuing.
  • A good number of students got placed in government sectors with a salary package of up to INR 9 Lacs per annum.
  • Some of the recruiting companies are The State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, PepsiCo, Pepsi, Airports Authority in India, Steel Authority of India Limited, ICICI Bank, Asirvad Microfinance Limited, and Coca-cola. 

MGCU Bihar: Scholarships 

A plethora of scholarship opportunities are provided to students to boost their motivation and help those who are in need. It acts as a catalyst for their achieving spirit when they are rewarded for their hard work.

  • Pragati and Saksham Scholarship provided by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) to girls and differently-abled students pursuing diplomas/degrees in AICTE-approved technical institutions (MGCUB).
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited offers 1000 Scholarships worth INR 48,000/- per annum to meritorious SC/ST students for pursuing professional courses in Engineering, Medical Stream, 2 year Masters's Degree in Business Administration, Geology and Geophysics.
  • AICTE also provides scholarship programs to 1st-year students pursuing post-graduate courses in AICTE-approved programs like M.E, M. Tech, M.Pharm, and M. Arch, having secured qualifying marks in GPAT/GATE scores.
  • The Central Sector Scheme Scholarship for College and University students offers scholarships to students who have secured above 80% in their respective streams and who are not eligible or availing of any other scholarship. This is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from lower-income families.
  • Indira Gandhi Scholarship for single girl children is provided to students who are girls with age up to 30 willing to apply for postgraduate courses. 3000 scholarships are given out every year.
  • Post Graduate Scholarship for Professional courses for SC/ST is provided to meritorious students belonging to the SC/ST class keeping in mind their background for professional courses in technology, Management, Pharmacy, etc.
  • Ishan Uday Special Scholarship is provided by UGC and the Ministry of HRD to North Easter region students with lower-income families to pursue higher education with the aim of improving GER.

MGCU Bihar: FAQs 

Ques. Are hostel facilities provided by MGCU?

Ans. The women’s hostel named Kasturba Gandhi Women’s Hostel is hired by the university in Chhota Bariyarpur, Motihari. It can accommodate 50 women at a time with full security. Anyone seeking hostel accommodation will have to join the hostel mess by default. A transport facility from the hostel to the University by bus has been arranged by the Authority with minimum pay of 500 rupees per month.

Ques. What other facilities are provided at MGCU?

Ans. The University has an IT Centre. The lab is used by students for computer practicals with the availability of internet facilities. The centre works on web designing and has developed e-resources in the pandemic situation to facilitate the students with smooth learning and connectivity. An efficient library stuffed with books of all genres provides access to students for their study and research. ATM, Transportation, CCTV surveillance system and games and sports are all for students to avail themselves at.

Ques. What are the other cells present at MGCU apart from the Placement cell?

Ans. Apart from the placement cell, there is a career counselling, student counselling, anti-ragging, equal opportunity cell and cultural and literary council, and research and development cell are present and working in the university. The university has also constituted a society to address any kind of mental health, and psychosocial aspects of the student’s life to ensure the well-being of the student.

Ques. How is the infrastructure of MGCU?

Ans. Different buildings are allocated for different departments. The buildings are efficient and differently-abled student-friendly. The university is presently functioning from the campuses provided by the state government but recently, 135 acres of land has been received from the State Government for the establishment of the permanent campus. 

Ques. Does MGCU recruit Freshers after post-graduation for research projects?

Ans. Yes, the university provides opportunities for freshly graduated students (postgraduate) or students with JRF for research projects. But students have to appear for the NET or have to be eligible for recruitment.
