IIT Indore Important Admission Dates

Upcoming entrance tests and admission activities cover B.Des, M.Sc, M.Tech, MS, MA and PhD programmes. The schedule below includes ongoing application opportunities and future events.

IIT Indore Courses and Fees

Students study through four schools: Engineering, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Design. Undergraduate engineering has 11 branches, while M.Tech offers 22 specialisations. The 2026 totals below apply to the general quota and cover tuition and all academic fees. Each course entry also explains its duration and admission route.

Among the M.Tech choices are Advanced Manufacturing, Applied Optics, Biomedical Devices, Climate and Sustainability, Defence Technology, Electric Vehicle Engineering, Energy System Engineering, VLSI Design and Nanoelectronics, Space Engineering, and Thermal Energy Systems. These form part of the programme's 22 specialisations in engineering and applied sciences.

IIT Indore Admission Process

Entrance examinations determine admission to IIT Indore. The institute has no direct-entry route, management quota or NRI quota. Depending on the course, students must take part in counselling or clear an institute test and interview.

1. Check the subject, marks and qualification requirements for the programme.
2. Apply for the relevant entrance examination and obtain the required rank or score.
3. Complete the applicable counselling registration or institute application.
4. Take any required written test or interview, or participate in seat allocation through the relevant counselling process.

The main programme groups use the following entrance routes and minimum qualifications.

B.Tech, B.Tech + M.Tech Dual Degree and B.S.

• Students must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12. The minimum aggregate is 75%, reduced to 65% for SC/ST/PwD applicants.
• Eligibility to take JEE Advanced requires a place among the top 2.5 Lakh JEE Main rank holders.
• After JEE Advanced results, students take part in JoSAA's online counselling for seat allocation.

B.Des

• Applicants need at least 60% in Class 12. The maximum age is 25 years, with a limit of 30 years for reserved categories.
• IIT Bombay conducts UCEED each January. For the 2027 cycle, the examination date is January 17, 2027.
• Seat allocation follows the UCEED results through JoSAA counselling.

M.Tech

• A relevant B.Tech or B.E. degree is required, with at least 55% aggregate. SC/ST/PwD applicants need 50%.
• Students must hold a valid score in the relevant GATE paper.
• The admission route includes COAP/CCMN counselling. IIT Indore also holds campus interviews for M.Tech applicants.

M.Sc

• The qualifying degree must be a bachelor's in the relevant science discipline. Minimum marks are 55%, or 50% for SC/ST/PwD students.
• Applicants take IIT JAM in the relevant subject, such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biotechnology.
• JOAPS, the Joint Admission Portal for M.Sc admissions, handles seat allocation.

PhD

• Applicants may qualify with an M.Tech, M.Sc or MA and at least 60%. The direct PhD route also covers M.Tech/B.Tech applicants with a valid GATE score.
• Selection includes IIT Indore's written examination and a personal interview. Admission is held twice a year for the August and January batches.
• GATE/NET qualification gives applicants preference, although it is not compulsory for PhD applications in every department.

IIT Indore JEE Advanced Cutoffs

For the General category, the first round of JEE Advanced-based admission in 2025 opened at the following ranks. These are opening ranks rather than closing ranks.

Cutoffs for 2027 will be announced after JoSAA counselling ends.

IIT Indore Placements

Technology and core engineering employers recruit IIT Indore graduates. The NIRF 2025 median salary is INR 19.48 LPA for B.Tech and INR 10 LPA for M.Tech. LPA means lakh rupees per year. These B.Tech outcomes place the institute among the better-performing second-generation IITs. Recent highest packages reached INR 137 LPA for B.Tech and INR 54 LPA for M.Tech.

Computer Science and Engineering leads the branch-level results, with a recent average CTC of INR 47.36 LPA. CTC, or cost to company, is the employer's total annual compensation cost. Both Indian and international technology companies recruit CSE graduates. Average packages for other branches were INR 24.83 LPA in Electrical Engineering, INR 18.46 LPA in Civil Engineering and INR 14.96 LPA in Mechanical Engineering.

More than 120 companies have attended campus recruitment drives in recent years. Employers cover IT services, technology products, VLSI and semiconductors, finance, consulting and core engineering. Research organisations including ISRO, DRDO and BARC also hire M.Tech and PhD graduates from the science and engineering departments.

IIT Indore Rankings

Internationally, IIT Indore stands at 556th in the QS World University Rankings 2026. It is 12th among Indian institutions in that list and the highest-placed second-generation IIT. Its NIRF 2025 Engineering rank of 12 also leads this group of IITs.

Research across the Engineering, Science and Humanities schools supports the institute's growing research output and its 24th position in NIRF Research 2025. IIT Indore does not take part in NAAC accreditation. As centrally funded Institutes of National Importance, IITs fall outside the NAAC framework.

IIT Indore Campus and Infrastructure

At Simrol on Khandwa Road, IIT Indore occupies 501 acres, 25 km from Indore city centre in Madhya Pradesh. This fully residential campus has separate hostels for undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students, as well as quarters for faculty and staff. Regular transport services connect it with Indore.

Each of the Engineering, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Design schools has laboratories and research facilities for its subjects. Students have access to research parks, innovation labs, an AICTE IDEA Lab and a Central Research Facility with advanced scientific equipment. Other facilities include a Design Studio for B.Des students, an Innovation and Incubation Centre, and a Central Library offering international digital resources. The Sports Complex supports indoor and outdoor activities, alongside a 400-metre athletic track and a swimming pool.

IIT Indore Scholarships

Financial support for B.Tech students from economically weaker households includes scholarships, tuition waivers and help with mess charges. IIT Indore and the Government of India's Ministry of Education jointly administer these schemes. Research and postgraduate students can also receive fellowships or monthly scholarships under the applicable rules.

M.Tech students who qualify GATE can receive INR 12,400 per month under AICTE norms. This scholarship covers the programme's 2-year duration, provided students meet the academic requirements.

IIT Indore, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Gandhinagar Compared

Branch choice, location and available specialisations often guide students comparing these three second-generation IITs. Their founding years, national recognition and applicant groups are similar. Students with JEE Advanced ranks from 2,000 to 12,000 commonly consider them together.

Of the three, IIT Hyderabad has the strongest NIRF Engineering position and the highest median placement salary. Space Science and Engineering is a distinctive option at IIT Indore, whose NIRF Overall rank of 27 is ahead of IIT Gandhinagar. Interdisciplinary B.Tech study and a design-focused curriculum are notable features at IIT Gandhinagar. Infrastructure is comparable across all three, and their main CSE programmes have similar JEE Advanced rank requirements in the opening admission round.
