CMAT Books: Section-Wise Selection

Choose one main source for each skill rather than buying every title in the same row group. These are editorial selections for subject coverage, not books prescribed by NTA. General Awareness also needs current material, so an old static-GK volume cannot complete that section on its own.

Books for Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation

R.S. Aggarwal's Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations is a practical starting point if percentages, ratios, equations or geometry need revision. Work through the solved examples, then attempt questions without looking at the method. It covers a broad competitive-exam range, so match your chapter choices to the CMAT syllabus.

Arun Sharma's Courseware on Quantitative Aptitude for CAT 2026 offers graded exercises. Its chapters include arithmetic, number systems, algebra, geometry, probability and sets. Begin with the basic level in a weak topic and move to harder sets when the method is secure. Completing the hardest exercise in every chapter is not a condition for taking CMAT.

Data interpretation needs separate attention even when your arithmetic is strong. Practise tables and graphs where the base changes between questions. In a placement chart, total students, students in one course and students placed are three different denominators. Use CMAT papers with solutions for this mixed application rather than relying only on chapter-labelled sums.

Books for Logical Reasoning

Arun Sharma's Courseware on Logical Reasoning for CAT (2026) covers arrangements, ranking, team selection, sets, coding, syllogisms and deduction. Choose exercises that teach you to translate a condition into a diagram or a definite conclusion. Large CAT-style sets can be additional practice, but they need not replace shorter CMAT reasoning questions.

R.S. Aggarwal's A Modern Approach to Verbal & Non-Verbal Reasoning gives broader practice across verbal and non-verbal question types. It is useful when you need repetition in individual topics before attempting mixed sets. If you already own one of these books, complete the relevant exercises before buying the other for similar coverage.

Review a wrong reasoning answer by identifying the exact condition you missed. Copying a finished arrangement from a solution does not show whether you could have built it yourself. Redo the question with a blank diagram and explain each placement.

Books for Language Comprehension

Courseware on Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension for CAT 2026, by Arun Sharma and Meenakshi Upadhyay, covers reading comprehension, vocabulary, paragraph ordering, sentence completion and correction. Its grammar and word-level exercises are useful alongside passage practice, especially if your earlier preparation focused mainly on CAT reading comprehension.

Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis can support vocabulary through word roots and related meanings. It is a supplement, not a complete Language Comprehension course. Continue practising passages, grammar and sentence ordering; recognising a word does not by itself settle an inference or paragraph question.

For passage review, identify the sentence or idea supporting the correct option. If two options look similar, compare the strength of their claim and whether either adds information that the author did not provide.

General Awareness Study Material

Lucent's General Knowledge (English Edition) covers history, geography, polity, the economy, science and general reference topics. Use it for subject-wise static revision. Manorama Year Book English 2026 is an annual reference option. Add dated current-affairs notes for developments after the edition's publication cut-off; the year on the cover does not make a book a live news source.

Make entries around the question that could be asked: who received an award, which body released a report, where an event took place, or what a policy changes. Keep the event date beside the fact. Current appointments and business developments can become outdated, while a historical fact usually needs less frequent revision.

The 2026 CMAT pattern gave General Awareness 20 questions. There was no official fixed split between static GK and current affairs, so a single monthly magazine or newspaper section is too narrow to serve as the whole subject.

Book for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship, 11th edition, by Robert D. Hisrich, Michael P. Peters, Dean A. Shepherd and Sabyasachi Sinha, covers entrepreneurial thinking, the Indian startup ecosystem, business plans, finance, funding and growth. Use selected chapters for concepts rather than reading the whole textbook as if every page were examinable.

The edition was published in 2020. Its explanations can help with business concepts, while recent company developments and policy changes need current material. A company example in an older textbook is not a statement about that company's present financial position.

Which CMAT Books Should You Buy First?

Start with the gap in your preparation. If you already have CAT Quant, LR and English books, keep using the matching chapters and add CMAT papers, General Awareness and Entrepreneurship. If you are beginning from scratch, select one Quant book, one Reasoning source and one English source before adding supplements.

An older edition can still teach percentages, grammar or logical deduction. A newer edition matters more when you need revised solved papers, current affairs or changed exam-format practice. Compare the contents and solutions, not just the year printed on the cover.

For a solved-paper book, check that questions are grouped by the correct year and shift and that explanations show the method rather than only an option letter. The CMAT preparation guide explains how to combine chapter exercises with full-paper review.
