IIIT Kottayam Admission Dates 2027

The B.Tech admission process for the 2027-28 academic year is expected to begin with JEE Main registration in November 2026. JEE Main will be followed by JoSAA counselling from June 2027. The schedule below is tentative.

Admission routes differ by programme. The required examinations and counselling methods are listed below.

IIIT Kottayam Courses and Fees

Students can pursue B.Tech, M.Tech, Executive M.Tech and PhD programmes at IIIT Kottayam. B.Tech is available in five branches covering computing, AI, cybersecurity, electronics and applied mathematics. The amounts in the table represent the total fee for each complete programme.

The four B.Tech branches of CSE, AI and Data Science, Cyber Security and ECE each cost INR 13,17,630 for the full four years. Mathematics and Computing has a different fee-component structure and costs INR 19,75,010. Every B.Tech programme is covered by the SC/ST fee-concession rules prescribed by the Ministry of Education.

IIIT Kottayam Admission Process

IIIT Kottayam uses national entrance examinations for its regular B.Tech and M.Tech admissions. JEE Main scores and JoSAA counselling determine B.Tech seats, while M.Tech allotment is based on GATE through CCMT. PhD applicants first undergo NET or GATE screening and then take the institute's written test and interview.

B.Tech Admission at IIIT Kottayam

For B.Tech admission, applicants must have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. They must obtain a JEE Main rank before participating in the online JoSAA seat-allotment process jointly conducted for the IIT and NIT systems.

• Complete JEE Main registration at jeemain.nta.nic.in during November and December. Session 1 is held in January and February.
• After the JEE Main results, register at josaa.nic.in for JoSAA counselling. Session 2 results are generally available during May and June.
• During choice filling, add the preferred IIIT Kottayam branches to the preference list.
• If a seat is allotted, accept it, submit the seat-acceptance fee and report to IIIT Kottayam in August.

In the 2025 JoSAA allotment for the General category, the closing rank was 40,217 for CSE and 32,780 for AI and Data Science. The required rank changes across categories and counselling rounds.

M.Tech Admission at IIIT Kottayam

An M.Tech applicant needs a B.Tech or BE degree in a related subject and a valid GATE score. Seats are distributed through Centralised Counselling for M.Tech, or CCMT. The institute accepts the GATE CS paper for M.Tech programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Data Science. Shortlisting depends on the GATE score, while final allotment takes place through the CCMT rounds.

Executive M.Tech in Data Science

This 2-year Data Science programme is intended for professionals who have completed at least two years of industry work. Selection takes place at the institute level and includes an evaluation of the applicant's statement of purpose and an interview. Applications must be submitted directly through iiitkottayam.ac.in during the admission period announced by the institute.

PhD Admission at IIIT Kottayam

Applicants may enter the PhD selection process with a master's degree or B.Tech in a relevant field and at least 55% marks. A NET or GATE score is needed for the first round of screening. Those shortlisted must sit for a written examination and interview organised by IIIT Kottayam. PhD scholars are admitted every semester in CSE, ECE, Cyber Security and Mathematics.

IIIT Kottayam Placements

Technology, software and product-engineering positions form the main part of recruitment at IIIT Kottayam. During the 2025 season, 178 students received 219 offers, the institute's highest placement count up to that point. This represented a placement rate of 88%. Recruiter activity is strongest in CSE and AI-related programmes, while students from ECE and Mathematics and Computing enter software as well as hardware roles.

A pre-placement offer produced the season's highest package of INR 50 LPA. The average salary reached INR 11.91 LPA, and the median was INR 10 LPA.

Amazon, Bosch, IBM, TCS and Infosys are among the companies that have hired students from the campus, along with several mid-sized product and service businesses. In addition to standard IT-service jobs, the AI and cybersecurity curriculum supports recruitment for specialist positions.

IIIT Kottayam Scholarships

Fee concessions at IIIT Kottayam follow Ministry of Education rules. SC, ST and OBC-NCL students with an annual family income below INR 5 Lakhs may receive the applicable concession. Students in the Persons with Disability category can also claim fee support under MoE norms. After joining the institute, eligible students may apply for government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal.

Applications for NSP support should be filed at scholarships.gov.in within the notified period after enrolment. Students must provide income and caste certificates during fee verification. GATE-qualified M.Tech students awarded a Teaching Assistantship receive an AICTE stipend of INR 12,400 per month.

IIIT Kottayam Campus and Infrastructure

IIIT Kottayam's permanent campus occupies 53 acres of Kerala's highland landscape at Valavoor. Fully functional since the 2019-20 period, it brings the academic departments, library, canteen, recreation areas and student housing together at one location. Kottayam railway junction is 30 km away, while Kochi International Airport is 85 km from the campus.

Male and female students have separate residential blocks on campus. Other facilities include campus-wide Wi-Fi, a gymnasium, medical centre, outdoor sports ground and student cooperative mess.

As part of the PPP arrangement, technology companies contribute equipment for laboratories, sponsor research and arrange guest sessions. LTI Mindtree and UST Global are among the industry partners that have assisted with specialised laboratories and curriculum development for Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Data Science.

IIIT Kottayam vs IIIT Kurnool vs IIIT Guwahati

IIIT Kottayam belongs to the group of fifteen IIITs created through the PPP model during the same broad period. Students with JEE Main ranks between 30,000 and 50,000 often consider it alongside IIIT Kurnool and IIIT Guwahati because the three institutes have similar structures, establishment periods and programme choices.

From Kottayam, students can access Kerala's Kochi-Thiruvananthapuram IT corridor for internships and recruitment with technology companies operating in the state. IIIT Guwahati has a slightly longer operating history and serves many students from North-East India. IIIT Kurnool develops industry connections through the Andhra Pradesh government and corporations working across southern India.
