IIIT Guwahati Admission Dates 2027

The 2027-28 B.Tech cycle will use JEE Main and JoSAA counselling. GATE and CCMT will be used for M.Tech admission. IIIT Guwahati will separately announce its Ph.D application schedule on iiitg.ac.in.

IIIT Guwahati Courses and Fees

IIIT Guwahati provides three B.Tech options, three M.Tech options, and Ph.D study in CSE, ECE, Mathematics, and Humanities. All three B.Tech specialisations carry a total fee of INR 14,41,000 for four years.

CSE is the institute's main B.Tech programme and has the strongest competition for seats. The newer ECE with Artificial Intelligence course brings AI study into a traditional engineering branch. Among the M.Tech choices, VLSI Design and Embedded Systems has a lower total fee than the CSE and ECE programmes.

IIIT Guwahati Admission Process

Admission routes vary by course. B.Tech seats are allotted through JoSAA after JEE Main, M.Tech admissions use GATE and CCMT, and the institute manages Ph.D selection directly.

B.Tech Admission

Applicants must meet all of these B.Tech eligibility conditions:

• Pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
• Secure at least 75% in Class 12, or 65% for SC/ST applicants, or rank within the top 20 percentile of the qualifying board
• Hold a valid JEE Main score for the applicable academic year

The B.Tech process follows these steps:

1. Appear for JEE Main and obtain a valid score.
2. Register on the JoSAA portal after the results are declared.
3. Enter and arrange preferred institutes and branches.
4. Take part in the JoSAA allotment rounds and complete the required steps after receiving a seat.

IIIT Guwahati follows the OS-HS quota system used for IIIT admissions and reserves Home State seats for Assam candidates. For General-category applicants, the CSE closing rank commonly falls between 15,000 and 25,000. ECE and EC-AI usually close at higher ranks.

M.Tech Admission

An M.Tech applicant needs a B.Tech or B.E. in the relevant engineering field, at least 60% marks, or 55% for SC/ST applicants, and a valid GATE score. The admission steps are:

1. Qualify GATE in the relevant paper.
2. Register for CCMT counselling.
3. Submit programme and institute choices.
4. Accept the allotted seat and complete IIIT Guwahati's admission requirements.

GATE-qualified M.Tech students can receive the MHRD scholarship of INR 12,400 per month throughout the programme.

Ph.D Admission

IIIT Guwahati generally conducts Ph.D admissions twice each year and posts announcements on iiitg.ac.in. Engineering applicants need either a B.Tech with GATE or an M.Tech. Applicants in Mathematics and Humanities require an M.Sc or M.A. in the relevant subject.

1. Apply through the institute-level Ph.D process.
2. Wait for shortlisting based on the programme requirements.
3. Attend the written test and interview at IIIT Guwahati.

IIIT Guwahati Placements

Placement drives are organised at IIIT Guwahati's permanent Bongora campus. The latest figures record a highest CTC of INR 59 LPA, an average CTC of INR 17.38 LPA, and placement for more than 90% of eligible graduating students. Recruiters include Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Deloitte, and SAP Labs.

Technology companies give the highest packages to CSE graduates, particularly for software development and AI positions. Students from ECE and EC-AI enter semiconductor, telecom, embedded systems, and software companies. The institute's access to Guwahati city and the nearby airport supports recruiter travel from locations such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.

IIIT Guwahati Rankings

IIIT Guwahati takes part in the Engineering category of the NIRF framework. Its 2025 position was the 201 to 300 band, compared with the 151 to 200 band in 2024.

The institute was founded through the PPP model in 2013, and its first B.Tech group graduated in 2017. It is still developing the research record and alumni placement history considered in NIRF assessment. IIIT Guwahati does not currently participate in international ranking systems.

Campus-wide Wi-Fi and 1 Gbps National Knowledge Network (NKN) connectivity support classes, research, and computing work. Separate modern hostel blocks for boys and girls accommodate more than 800 students. Interdisciplinary research is supported by the Design Innovation Centre and the Centre for Robotics.

IIIT Guwahati vs IIIT Manipur vs IIIT Agartala

IIIT Guwahati, IIIT Manipur, and IIIT Agartala are PPP-based IIITs in Northeast India that attract a similar group of JoSAA applicants. Each institute admits B.Tech students through JoSAA under Home State and Other State quotas.

Among these three institutes, IIIT Guwahati has operated for the longest period and has the largest campus. Its first B.Tech class completed the programme in 2017, and the institute has continued to build its placement record. It is also the only one of the three listed here to offer the EC-AI branch. Being located in Guwahati provides easier access for industry representatives and recruiters than the locations of the other two institutes.
