The 2026 paper had 100 questions across five sections, including General Awareness and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Colleges set their own admission requirements, so qualifying for the exam and qualifying for a particular programme are separate questions.
What Is CMAT?
The Common Management Admission Test is a national entrance test used for admission to management programmes. Graduates from different disciplines take it for participating MBA and PGDM routes. The college application is separate from the examination application.
The National Testing Agency has conducted CMAT since 2019. AICTE conducted it until 2018. NTA handles the test, answer keys and scorecards; participating institutes or admission authorities handle their selection and seat-allocation processes.
This distinction matters when choosing colleges: taking CMAT does not apply to every institution, and an AICTE-approved programme should not be assumed to accept every exam cycle without checking its admission requirements.
CMAT 2027 Exam Date
CMAT 2027 is tentatively scheduled for 7 February 2027 in NTA's examination calendar. Registration has not started. The calendar gives an examination date, not an application deadline.
| Cycle | Milestone | Date |
|---|
| 2027 | Tentative examination | 7 February 2027 |
| 2026 | Examination held | 25 January 2026 |
| 2026 | Result declared | 17 February 2026 |
You can prepare your degree details, photograph, signature and category or disability documents while following the CMAT registration requirements. A college's own application can open on a different schedule from the NTA form.
CMAT Eligibility: Graduation, Age and Final-Year Students
The appearance requirements below are from the 2026 examination. Applicants needed a bachelor's degree in any discipline and Indian citizenship. Final-year students could apply if their degree result would be declared before admission began for the relevant academic session.
| Requirement | 2026 exam-appearance rule |
|---|
| Qualification | Bachelor's degree in any discipline |
| Final-year students | Allowed, subject to the required result timing before admission |
| Nationality | Indian citizen |
| Age limit | No age restriction for appearing |
The NTA rule did not prescribe one common 50% or 45% graduation threshold for every CMAT applicant. Colleges can have their own minimum degree percentage and other conditions. For example, NIA's 2027 admission requirements include both a 50% degree threshold and an institutional upper-age limit.
A non-commerce degree does not by itself prevent you from taking CMAT. The CMAT eligibility guide covers the qualification, reservation and assistance rules in more detail.
CMAT Application Process and Fees
The online application has three main parts: registration, completion of the form and payment. Keep the generated application number and password, then check that a confirmation page has been generated after successful payment.
- Register using your personal and contact details.
- Complete the qualification, category and examination-city fields.
- Upload the required photograph, signature and applicable certificates.
- Pay the examination fee and retain the confirmation page.
2026 application fee
| Category | Examination fee |
|---|
| General male | INR 2,500 |
| General female | INR 1,250 |
| Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL / SC / ST / PwD / PwBD, male or female | INR 1,250 |
| Third gender | INR 1,250 |
Bank or payment-gateway charges and applicable GST were extra. The category concession in this fee table is not the same as a reservation percentage for college seats.
The 2026 upload limits were 10-200 KB for the photograph and 10-50 KB for the signature, both in JPG/JPEG. An applicable PwD/PwBD/UDID certificate was uploaded as a 50-300 KB PDF. Applicants using their own scribe also had additional scribe documents. These file specifications belong to the previous examination cycle.
CMAT Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
CMAT 2026 was an English-medium computer-based test lasting 180 minutes. It had five sections with equal question and mark allocations.
| Section | Questions | Marks |
|---|
| Quantitative Techniques and Data Interpretation | 20 | 80 |
| Logical Reasoning | 20 | 80 |
| Language Comprehension | 20 | 80 |
| General Awareness | 20 | 80 |
| Innovation and Entrepreneurship | 20 | 80 |
| Total | 100 | 400 |
A correct answer earned four marks, a wrong answer lost one mark, and an unanswered question earned zero. Each section therefore accounted for 20% of the 400-mark paper. Spending all your preparation time on Quant and Reasoning would leave three equally weighted sections uncovered.
The ordinary raw-score calculation is four times the number correct, minus the number wrong. Final-key changes and dropped questions follow NTA's specified rules rather than a provisional-key calculation.
CMAT Syllabus and Important Preparation Areas
NTA identifies the five test sections; the preparation areas below break them into commonly studied topics. They are a study map, not an official chapter-wise question quota.
| Section | Preparation areas |
|---|
| Quant and DI | Percentages, ratios, averages, profit and loss, work, speed, number properties, algebra, geometry, tables and charts |
| Logical Reasoning | Arrangements, directions, family relations, coding, series, syllogisms and arguments |
| Language | Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, cloze tests and sentence arrangement |
| General Awareness | History, geography, economy, science, institutions, sports, awards and current affairs |
| Entrepreneurship | Business ideas, feasibility, funding, innovation, management and entrepreneurship concepts |
For Language, include grammar and vocabulary alongside reading passages. For Entrepreneurship, distinguish business concepts through examples: self-funding and venture-capital funding are different routes, while feasibility and a business plan answer different questions.
The CMAT syllabus guide expands these areas subject by subject. Use the CMAT question papers and solutions to see how those skills are tested, rather than treating a topic list as enough preparation.
How to Prepare for CMAT 2027
Start with a section-wise attempt to find the skills that need work. In Quant, separate a weak concept from a slow calculation. In Reasoning, check whether the mistake came from a missed condition or the wrong diagram. These need different kinds of revision.
- Quant and DI: revise arithmetic and number operations, then apply them to mixed questions and data sets.
- Reasoning: mix standalone questions with arrangements; review the exact condition that changes the answer.
- Language: study grammar in sentences and vocabulary in context, not only isolated word lists.
- General Awareness: combine static topics with current developments instead of relying on only one source of questions.
- Entrepreneurship: connect terms such as funding, feasibility and innovation to short business situations.
After a full mock, record correct, wrong and unattempted counts for each section. Rework the questions lost to avoidable errors before adding another test. The CMAT preparation guide includes subject-wise work and mock-review methods.
CMAT City Slip, Admit Card and Exam-Day Documents
The city-intimation slip tells you the allotted examination city. The admit card gives the centre and examination instructions and is the document required for entry. A city slip is not a substitute for the admit card.
For the 2026 examination, the document checklist included a printed admit card with the self-declaration, one passport-size photograph matching the application, and an authorised original photo ID. Applicable disability and scribe documents were also required.
Use the reporting and gate-closing instructions on your admit card. A train or traffic delay does not change the centre's entry schedule. If the name, photograph or another personal detail is wrong, contact the examination helpdesk before the test rather than altering the card yourself.
CMAT Answer Key, Result and Percentile
NTA releases recorded responses and a provisional answer key before finalising the result. Challenges must be submitted in the notified window with the required payment and support. The final key is used to prepare the scorecard.
The latest completed result was declared on 17 February 2026. The scorecard reported marks and corresponding percentile scores. A percentile measures the proportion of candidates in the session with scores equal to or below yours; it is not your marks percentage.
For example, 240 out of 400 is 60% marks but does not establish a 60 percentile. Under the 2026 merit rule, equal scores shared merit, with older candidates listed first within the group. The next merit number skipped the tied positions.
The CMAT result guide explains scorecard access and the result-stage steps. Admission cutoffs remain programme-specific; NTA does not set one passing percentile that guarantees a management seat.
Colleges Accepting CMAT: Fees, Cutoffs and Admission
The two examples below show how admission conditions differ. NIA's figures concern the 2027-29 intake; Welingkar's example is from its 2026-28 Mumbai PGDM brochure and shortlist notice. Placement figures are from completed batches, not promised salaries for a future student.
NIA Pune: PGDM Insurance and Risk Management, 2027-29
- Programme fee: INR 12 lakh for two years. First-year hostel and boarding are listed separately at INR 2 lakh; hostel availability is limited.
- Placement: average CTC INR 12.17 LPA for the 2024-26 batch; highest CTC INR 38.18 LPA.
- Expected CMAT 2027 shortlist: 95 percentile for General/EWS; 90 for NC-OBC/SC/ST/PwD.
- Admission: graduation with at least 50%; final-year results by 30 June 2027. Upper age is 28 for General/EWS/OBC-NC and 30 for SC/ST/PwD on 1 July 2027. Academics, entrance score, group discussion, interview and work experience enter selection.
Welingkar Mumbai: PGDM, 2026-28 reference
- Tuition: the 2026-28 brochure lists INR 7 lakh per year, or INR 14 lakh over two years; this is not an all-inclusive living-cost figure.
- Placement: the PGDM brochure reports average salary INR 11.70 LPA and median INR 11.78 LPA for the 2023-25 batch.
- CMAT 2026 shortlist: 85 percentile for Mumbai PGDM in the general-merit selection process. Other programmes and the Bengaluru campus have different thresholds.
- Admission: at least 50% in graduation, completed by June 2026, for that intake. Selection also considers academics, work experience, group activity and interview.
These examples are not a ranking. Fees cover different items, and the placement cohorts differ. Compare the programme, fee inclusions and admission requirements before using the CMAT cutoff guide to assess an applicable shortlist threshold.

CMAT Participation and Reservation
In 2026, 53,453 candidates registered and 41,872 appeared. NTA conducted the exam in 110 cities at 259 centres. The reported 78.33% was attendance among registered candidates, not a pass rate.
The 2026 bulletin described the following reservation shares for institutes run by the Central Government. State-run, aided or recognised institutions follow the applicable state policy; this is not a common seat pool allocated by CMAT.
| Central-institution category | Reservation share |
|---|
| SC | 15% |
| ST | 7.5% |
| OBC-NCL, Central List | 27% |
| General-EWS | 10% |
| PwD/PwBD | 5% within each relevant category |
The PwD/PwBD share is horizontal: it operates within the category seats rather than adding another separate block to the total. Category claims and supporting certificates are checked under the relevant admission rules.
Admission After CMAT
Choose the programme and confirm its accepted exam cycle before filling a college form. NIA, for example, accepts CMAT 2027 for its 2027-29 intake and lists 15 March 2027 as its application deadline. That is the college deadline, not the CMAT examination deadline.
- Meet the programme's graduation and other eligibility conditions.
- Submit the separate institute or counselling application.
- Provide the score for the accepted examination cycle.
- Complete the applicable shortlist, interview or counselling process.
- Verify documents and complete seat acceptance and fee payment within that route's deadlines.
A shortlist percentile is not the same as the closing score of the last allotted seat. For routes with rounds and seat categories, compare the relevant course, category, quota and round.
