NEHU Admission Process

NEHU uses a centralised admission system based mainly on entrance exams. CUET UG is used for most UG courses, and CUET PG is used for most PG courses. NTA conducts both exams. B.Tech and B.Arch seats are filled through JEE Main counselling, while Ph.D. admission is held twice a year through a separate entrance test.

B.Tech Admission

For B.Tech, students must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The minimum marks required are 75% for General category students and 65% for SC/ST/OBC students. Admission is based on JEE Main scores and JOSAA/CSAB counselling, which allots seats for centrally funded technical institutions. NEHU offers B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering, ECE, Energy Engineering, and IT.

B.Arch Admission

Students applying for B.Arch must have studied Mathematics in 10+2 and scored at least 50% marks. Admission is through JEE Main Paper 2 (Architecture) or NATA scores. The course is 5 years long and follows Council of Architecture rules.

PG Admission (MA, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, LLM)

NEHU admits students to all PG courses through CUET PG 2026 scores. Most courses require graduation with at least 50% marks in the relevant subject, while MBA and LLM require 55%. Students must choose the CUET PG paper linked to the course they want. After CUET PG results, departments allot seats in merit order.

M.Tech Admission

M.Tech applicants need a B.Tech or BE degree in the relevant branch. Selection is based on GATE scores or CUET PG performance. The available M.Tech specialisations are Biomedical Engineering, ECE, IT, and Nanotechnology.

Ph.D. Admission

NEHU conducts Ph.D. admission in July and December cycles. A postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks is required. Students who have a valid UGC NET or GATE score may not have to take the written entrance test. Ph.D. is offered in 40+ disciplines across sciences, humanities, engineering, management, and law. The process includes a written entrance test and a department interview.

BA LLB (Hons.) Admission

The 5-year integrated BA LLB course uses CUET UG scores for admission. Students from any stream in 10+2 can apply. Seat allotment is based on CUET UG merit in the relevant test paper. The programme follows BCI (Bar Council of India) norms.

NEHU Placements and Career Outcomes

NEHU is a central university with a strong academic and research focus. Students choose different career routes depending on their course. The Training and Placement Cell supports technical and management students through seminars, guest lectures, industrial visits, and mock interviews.

NEHU Rankings

NEHU has appeared in the NIRF University category for several years. In 2025, it moved down from the 101-150 band to the 151-200 band. It is the only central university in Meghalaya listed in the NIRF University rankings.
