IIT Goa Admission Dates 2027

The forthcoming B.Tech schedule begins with JEE Main registration and continues through JEE Advanced and JoSAA seat allocation. Dates marked as tentative may be changed by the respective exam or counselling authority.

Each programme uses a specific entrance examination and selection route, as listed below.

IIT Goa Courses and Fees

IIT Goa offers engineering, science, humanities, and research programmes at the UG, PG, and doctoral levels. B.Tech is available in four branches and has the same total fee of INR 14,29,520 across all branches. The semester fee works out to INR 1.79 Lakhs, including INR 1 Lakh in tuition along with academic and hostel-related charges.

Marine Engineering is one of IIT Goa's distinctive M.Tech options and is not widely available across the IIT system. The programme relates to naval architecture, offshore structures, coastal engineering, and work in the marine industry. GATE-qualified students holding Teaching Assistantships can receive the applicable stipend during any of the institute's M.Tech programmes.

IIT Goa Admission Process

Admission requirements differ by programme. B.Tech applicants take JEE Main and JEE Advanced before participating in JoSAA counselling. GATE and CCMT are used for M.Tech, while M.Sc seats are filled through JAM and JOAPS. IIT Goa conducts institute-level selection for MS by Research and PhD applicants after the required GATE or NET screening.

B.Tech Admission at IIT Goa

Applicants must complete 10+2 or an equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. They must clear JEE Main, qualify for JEE Advanced, and meet the applicable JEE Advanced cutoff percentile. No separate minimum percentage in 10+2 is stated for this process.

• Take JEE Main Sessions 1 and 2 between January and April, then qualify for JEE Advanced.
• Write JEE Advanced in May and obtain an All India Rank.
• Register for JoSAA, add IIT Goa to the preferred choices, arrange the college preferences, and lock them.
• After receiving a seat, accept the allotment, submit the seat acceptance fee, and report to the campus in August.

M.Tech Admission at IIT Goa

A B.Tech or BE degree and a valid GATE score are required for M.Tech admission. Candidates receive seats through Centralised Counselling for M.Tech, known as CCMT. GATE-qualified students selected for a Teaching Assistantship receive an MoE stipend of INR 12,400 per month during the two-year course.

M.Sc and MS by Research

For the M.Sc programmes in Mathematics and Physics, candidates need a qualifying score in the relevant JAM paper. Seat allocation takes place through JOAPS, the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc portal. MS by Research applicants must qualify through GATE or NET and attend an interview conducted by IIT Goa. Research stipends may be available through the institute or sponsored projects.

PhD Admission at IIT Goa

PhD applicants need an M.Tech, M.Sc, or B.Tech in a relevant subject with at least 60% marks. A valid GATE or NET score is also required. Shortlisted applicants take a written test and attend an institute interview. Under MHRD, CSIR, or UGC funding, the JRF fellowship is INR 37,000 per month for the first two years, followed by an SRF fellowship of INR 42,000 per month.

IIT Goa Cutoffs

JoSAA closing ranks determine the final General category rank at which each B.Tech branch is allotted. In 2025, CSE had the lowest closing rank among IIT Goa's four B.Tech branches. Its General category opening rank was 4,256.

IIT Goa Placements

IIT Goa conducts campus recruitment for roles in technology, consulting, IT services, and core engineering. The 2024-25 season produced the institute's strongest placement results since its establishment, with 90.4% of the outgoing B.Tech batch placed.

CSE and Mathematics and Computing reported the strongest branch-level average packages. The following figures show the averages recorded in the 2023 placement season.

Recruiting organisations represent software products, IT services, consulting, and core engineering. IIT Goa's location also supports internship and recruitment connections with technology companies in western India through its proximity to the Kochi-Pune-Mumbai industrial corridor.

IIT Goa Rankings

IIT Goa takes part in national institutional rankings. Since the institute began in 2016, its research publications, alumni community, and industry connections have continued to develop.

IIT Goa Scholarships

Financial support at IIT Goa includes undergraduate tuition waivers, merit-cum-means assistance, M.Tech Teaching Assistantships, and research fellowships. These benefits follow guidelines or funding arrangements from the Ministry of Education, CSIR, UGC, and institute research projects.

Students may also submit applications for scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in. PhD and MS scholars can receive additional project-based stipends or fellowships when supported positions are available in IIT Goa research projects.

IIT Goa Campus and Infrastructure

IIT Goa's transit campus is located within Goa Engineering College at Farmagudi in Ponda. Teaching, research, and student activities take place there while a permanent campus is developed elsewhere in Goa. The existing site has departmental academic blocks, computer laboratories, a central library, a medical centre, a canteen, student mess facilities, sports areas, and on-campus hostels.

Farmagudi is 35 km from Panaji, the state capital, and 50 km from Goa Airport at Dabolim. Students can participate in technical and cultural clubs, sports teams, and the institute's annual technical festival. During the permanent-campus development phase, IIT Bombay's mentorship gives IIT Goa support through visiting faculty, laboratory equipment, and administrative guidance.

IIT Goa vs IIT Dharwad vs IIT Palakkad

Students with JEE Advanced ranks from 6,000 to 15,000 may consider IIT Goa alongside IIT Dharwad and IIT Palakkad. These institutions were established during 2015 and 2016 and attract a similar group of applicants, particularly from southern India.

IIT Goa stands apart through its coastal location and M.Tech in Marine Engineering. Its position also provides links towards the Mumbai-Pune technology corridor. IIT Dharwad has the same mentor, IIT Bombay, and a comparable selection of programmes. IIT Palakkad is mentored by IIT Madras and has an advantage in research infrastructure.
