HBTU Kanpur Admission Dates 2027

The 2026-27 admission process at HBTU has ended. The next admission cycle is for 2027-28. HBTU will publish the final schedule on hbtu.admissions.nic.in after it is announced.

HBTU Kanpur Courses and Fees

HBTU offers more than 70 programmes at UG, PG, integrated, and doctoral levels. Its industrial technology branches, such as Leather Technology, Oil Technology, Paint Technology, Plastic Technology, Food Technology, and Biochemical Engineering, make it different from many other engineering universities in India.

CSE and IT usually see the strongest demand among B.Tech branches. Oil Technology, Paint Technology, and Leather Technology are niche options linked to chemical, manufacturing, and PSU career paths.

HBTU Kanpur Admission Process

HBTU runs its own JEE Main-based counselling and does not take part in UPTAC. Students who clear JEE Main have to register separately on hbtu.admissions.nic.in for HBTU admission.

B.Tech Admission

For B.Tech, students need 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The minimum aggregate is 45%, while SC/ST students need 40%. A valid JEE Main score is compulsory for every B.Tech branch.

The B.Tech admission process follows these steps:

• Appear for JEE Main Session 1 or Session 2 and qualify
• Register on the HBTU counselling portal at hbtu.admissions.nic.in
• Select branches and lock the choices
• Accept the allotted seat and pay the seat acceptance fee
• Report with original documents for verification and final admission

For CSE in the General category under All India seats, the JEE Main closing rank ranged from 29,000 to 96,000 across counselling rounds in 2026. Branches such as Oil Technology, Paint Technology, and Leather Technology had higher closing ranks, which means comparatively lower competition.

B.Pharma and B.Tech Biotechnology

B.Pharma and B.Tech Biotechnology admissions are handled through a separate NIC portal. Selection is based on merit. For B.Pharma, students must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology with at least 45%.

M.Tech Admission

M.Tech applicants need a B.Tech degree in the relevant discipline with at least 55% marks. HBTU first considers students with a valid GATE score. Students without GATE can appear for the HBTU University Entrance Test (UET), and their seats are considered after GATE candidates.

MBA and MCA Admission

For MBA, students need graduation with 50% marks. The selection process includes the HBTU UET written test, followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. MCA admission is done through on-campus direct counselling for graduates who studied Mathematics.

M.Sc Admission

M.Sc in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, and Forensic Biotechnology requires a B.Sc degree in the relevant subject with 55% marks. M.Sc in Chemical Sciences, Material Sciences, and Mathematics with Data Science requires B.Sc with 50% marks. Admission to all M.Sc programmes is through HBTU UET.

HBTU Kanpur Placements

HBTU has a Training and Placement Cell for campus recruitment across B.Tech, B.Pharma, MBA, MCA, and M.Tech batches. In the 2025 placement season, the highest package was INR 60 LPA, while the average CTC stood at INR 7.18 LPA. In 2024, the highest offer was INR 32 LPA and the average CTC was INR 7 LPA.

Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Nvidia, Deloitte, TCS, HCL, Wipro, Accenture, Tech Mahindra, IBM, Samsung, and Cognizant are among the confirmed recruiters. HBTU Kanpur Rankings

HBTU Kanpur appears in NIRF categories for engineering and state public universities. Its rankings show its position as a state technical university with regular engineering branches as well as specialised industrial technology programmes.

The university also holds a NAAC A+ grade in its first accreditation cycle. Its Oil Technology, Paint Technology, and Leather Technology B.Tech programmes give it a special place within engineering education.

HBTU Kanpur Scholarships

HBTU Kanpur Campus and Infrastructure

HBTU vs MMMUT Gorakhpur vs KNIT Sultanpur

Students in Uttar Pradesh with JEE Main ranks between 30,000 and 2,00,000 often compare HBTU Kanpur, MMMUT Gorakhpur, and KNIT Sultanpur. These are among the better-known state government engineering options in Uttar Pradesh outside the NIT system.

HBTU has an older institutional history, a NAAC grade, and industrial technology branches linked to PSU and chemical sector roles. MMMUT Gorakhpur is a newer university with a growing research profile and is useful for students from eastern UP. KNIT Sultanpur is an older AKTU-affiliated government college for students who want regular engineering branches at lower competitive cutoffs. For industrial technology branches, HBTU is the only choice among these three.
