NIT Trichy Admission Dates 2027

NIT Trichy B.Tech admissions for the 2027-28 batch will begin through JEE Main 2027, followed by JoSAA counselling. The dates below are tentative timelines for the next admission cycle.

NIT Trichy Courses and Fees

NIT Trichy offers UG, PG, and doctoral programmes in engineering, architecture, management, and sciences. The fee details below follow the 2026 schedule for the General category under Other State quota. Home State students from Tamil Nadu pay lower fees as per the NITSER Act fee structure.

The B.Tech fee is the same for all 9 branches. CSE, ECE, and EEE usually see the toughest JEE Main closing ranks. At the PG level, M.Tech in CSE, Communication Systems, and Construction Technology are among the popular choices. Full-time M.Tech students admitted through GATE receive a monthly stipend of INR 12,400 under Ministry of Education rules.

NIT Trichy Admission Process

NIT Trichy uses national counselling systems for most courses instead of holding its own entrance exam. B.Tech and B.Arch seats are allotted through JoSAA/CSAB, M.Tech seats through CCMT, while MBA and Ph.D. admissions are handled through the institute portal.

B.Tech Admission

For B.Tech, admission depends on JEE Main scores and JoSAA counselling. Seats are offered under Home State quota for Tamil Nadu and Other State quota for applicants from other states.

M.Tech admission is done through CCMT, which is the central counselling process for M.Tech seats. Applicants need a valid GATE score in the relevant paper. GATE-qualified full-time scholars receive a monthly stipend of INR 12,400 from the Ministry of Education during the course.

B.Arch and Integrated B.Sc. + B.Ed. Admission

B.Arch seats are allotted through JoSAA and require a valid NATA score or JEE Main Paper 2 result. The Integrated B.Sc. + B.Ed. course in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics uses a separate central counselling process for NITSER institutions.

Ph.D. Admission

NIT Trichy conducts Ph.D. admission twice every year, in January and July. Applicants must have an M.Tech or M.Sc. degree with GATE/NET qualification or a senior research fellowship. Departments shortlist candidates through a written test and interview.

NIT Trichy Placements

NIT Trichy completed the 2024-25 placement season with a highest package of INR 52.89 LPA. The overall median package for B.Tech students was INR 14.35 LPA, and more than 220 companies took part in the placement process.

CSE recorded an average package of INR 27.27 LPA with a placement rate of 95.6%. ECE had a placement rate of 97.6%. Core branches such as Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering also crossed 90% placement.

Recruiters confirmed for placements include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Texas Instruments, IBM, Infosys, TCS, Oracle, Accenture, Wipro, Larsen and Toubro, and BHEL. Technology and IT made up the largest part of the offers, followed by finance companies such as Goldman Sachs and D.E. Shaw, and core engineering recruiters such as L&T, BHEL, and Texas Instruments. In 2024, PG M.Tech students received a median package of INR 9.50 LPA, with 632 students placed out of 745. NIT Trichy Rankings

NIT Trichy has stayed within the top 10 in NIRF Engineering and within the top 30 in the Overall category. From 2023 to 2025, it remained one of the few NITs placed in the NIRF Engineering top 10 for three straight years. Its teaching quality, research work, industry links, and placements support its NIRF scores in Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR) and Research and Professional Practice (RPC).

NIT Trichy does not feature in QS or THE World University Rankings because of institutional category restrictions for NITs. It takes part in NIRF for all applicable categories and publishes its full NIRF data sheet each year on its official website.

NIT Trichy Campus and Infrastructure

NIT Trichy is located on an 800-acre campus in Thuvakudi, Tiruchirappalli. The campus includes academic buildings, hostels, shopping facilities, a hospital, a bank, and a post office. It is located 20 km from Tiruchirappalli city centre.

The institute has 22 boys’ hostels and 7 girls’ hostels, so all enrolled students can live on campus. Hostel rooms come with a cot, study table, chair, and ceiling fan. Hostels also provide Aquaguard water purifiers and free WiFi. Messes serve South Indian and North Indian food, including vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

Academic facilities include the Central Library with digital resources and e-resource access, central computing facilities, specialised laboratories for all 9 engineering departments, and a Central Workshop for practical training in core disciplines. The Department of Management Studies has a Finance Lab and Computer Simulation Lab. Research facilities include a National Instruments Lab, a Nano-Crystalline Materials Lab, and a Centre for Research in Metallurgy.

For sports, the campus has a 400-metre athletic track, swimming pool, and courts for Badminton, Basketball, Tennis, and Volleyball. Students also use an indoor gymnasium, table tennis hall, and a dedicated stadium. The Students Union conducts Pragyan, the technical fest, and Festember, the cultural fest, both with participants from across India. Daily needs are supported by the on-campus bank, post office, dispensary, and shopping complex.

NIT Trichy vs NIT Warangal vs NIT Karnataka

Students with strong JEE Main ranks often compare NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, and NIT Karnataka (Surathkal). All three are Tier-1 NITs, hold Institute of National Importance status, and are placed within the top 20 of NIRF Engineering 2025. The final choice usually depends on the preferred branch, home state quota, and campus environment.

NIT Trichy stands ahead in NIRF Engineering rank, campus area, and CSE average placement package. NIT Warangal has a stronger NIRF Overall rank at #26 and offers more B.Tech branches. NIT Karnataka is often chosen by Karnataka students and by aspirants looking at VLSI and CET-based branches with lower JEE rank thresholds.
