BITS Pilani Hyderabad Admission Process

BE, B.Pharm, and MSc First Degree

BITSAT is the only accepted entrance examination for first-degree admission at BITS Pilani Hyderabad; JEE Main and other entrance scores are not considered. The two-hour computer-based test covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Proficiency, and Logical Reasoning.

  • Applicants need 10+2 or an equivalent qualification with PCM for BE, MSc Sciences, and MSc Mathematics, along with at least 75% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Students must be at least 16 years old when admitted.
  • Selection depends entirely on the BITSAT merit rank, without normalising scores or adding weight for board examination marks.
  • Several online admission iterations are held. During these rounds, a student may freeze an allotted seat or seek an upgrade to another branch or campus according to rank.

Computer Science, EEE, and ECE at BITS Hyderabad generally close between 340 and 380 out of 450. Closing scores for comparatively less competitive options such as Civil and Chemical Engineering are usually between 300 and 330. For the same branch, the Rajasthan-based Pilani campus consistently has higher closing scores than the Goa and Hyderabad campuses.

Dual Degree (BE + MSc)

After the first year, a BE student may add an MSc in a science subject or economics, subject to the student's CGPA. This combination takes five years, one year longer than the standard BE, and requires separate payment of the additional MSc tuition.

ME (Master of Engineering)

ME applicants are assessed through either GATE or the postgraduate test conducted by BITS. Shortlisted students attend an interview on campus. Full-time ME students may receive a monthly stipend through Teaching Assistantship work.

The widest recruiter participation is seen in Computer Science, EEE, and ECE. Companies hiring students include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Visa, Adobe, Cisco, Qualcomm, Goldman Sachs, and McKinsey, besides Tier-2 technology firms and startups. The institute also has an entrepreneurial record, with several graduates establishing funded startups.

Industry training is built into the curriculum through the BITS Pilani Practice School programme. PS-I takes place during the third year, while PS-II is completed in the final year. Both are compulsory internships hosted by companies in the BITS industry network. PS-II frequently leads to pre-placement offers, or PPOs, and makes a major contribution to final placement outcomes.

BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus and Infrastructure

The BITS Pilani Hyderabad campus occupies 200 acres in Jawaharnagar, Shamirpet, Telangana, 30 km north of central Hyderabad. More than 3,200 students use its academic buildings, laboratories, and residential blocks. As a fully residential campus, it has separate compulsory hostel facilities for male and female students. Annual hostel charges are up to INR 85,400 for both.

Facilities include specialised research laboratories for the engineering disciplines, a central library, a student activity centre, and several food courts. Students can use grounds or facilities for cricket, football, basketball, and swimming. The campus calendar also features ATMOS, its technology and cultural festival, and BOSM, its sports meet.

Its location places students close to HITEC City, Cyberabad, and the larger Hyderabad startup and information technology corridor. This access supports the Practice School programme and allows students to pursue industry internships in Hyderabad's technology district without travelling far from the campus.

BITS Pilani Hyderabad vs NIT Warangal vs IIIT Hyderabad

Students considering leading technical institutions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh often compare BITS Hyderabad, NIT Warangal, and IIIT Hyderabad after qualifying through examinations such as BITSAT and JEE.
