MAT 2026 has 150 questions across five sections and lasts 120 minutes. Each section has 30 questions. A wrong answer carries a 0.25-mark penalty, and all five sections contribute equally to the composite score.

All questions are objective multiple-choice questions. The paper has a total duration of 120 minutes. Dividing that time equally gives 24 minutes per section, but that calculation is a practice split, not an announced five-part sectional timer.

Negative Marking and MAT Scores

AIMA deducts 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. A raw tally from a mock and the score printed on the MAT scorecard are different measures.

AIMA normalizes raw performance across sessions and then scales the scores. A percentage obtained by dividing correct answers by 150 does not reproduce the composite score or percentile.

Does Economic and Business Environment Count?

Yes. All five sections contribute equally to the MAT composite score. Economic & Business Environment has 30 questions, just like each of the other four sections.

The current name of the section is Economic & Business Environment. Older preparation material may use Indian & Global Environment. When using older exercises, keep the current section name and scoring rule separate from the older paper format.

The MAT 2026 question-paper collection provides paper-based practice material. For a timed practice attempt, use the current 150-question, 120-minute structure rather than adopting the duration printed on an older paper.

MAT Exam Pattern FAQs

Is the MAT composite score out of 150 or 800?+

The test has 150 questions. The published composite score is reported on a 200-800 scale after normalization and scaling; it is not a raw mark out of 150.

Is 24 minutes an official sectional time limit?+

AIMA gives 120 minutes for the complete test. Twenty-four minutes is an equal division of that duration across five sections, not a separate sectional timing rule stated in the current structure.

Can two sessions have slightly different difficulty?+

Yes. AIMA explains that individual test forms may vary slightly in difficulty. Normalization and scaling account for these differences so equal scaled scores represent a comparable level of ability.

Does the business section only affect a separate score?+

No. Economic & Business Environment receives its own section score and also contributes to the composite score with equal weight to the other four sections.
