NIT Hamirpur Courses and Fees

Alongside B.Tech in 8 branches, NIT Hamirpur runs B.Arch, integrated B.Tech + M.Tech degrees and postgraduate courses in engineering, architecture, science and management. The Ministry of Education regulates fees, with the same quota category following a uniform fee structure across NITs. The amounts below cover the full programme duration under the general quota.

For general-quota B.Tech students, INR 6.78 Lakhs covers all 8 semesters of the four-year course. Tuition, hostel and institutional charges are included in the semester-wise structure. Himachal Pradesh Home State students and SC/ST students pay lower fees. The complete two-year M.Tech programme costs INR 2.34 Lakhs.

Among JEE Main applicants, CSE and ECE receive the greatest demand. Engineering Physics and Mathematics and Computing combine science with engineering and are less commonly available across NITs. Students interested in completing undergraduate and postgraduate study together can choose the five-year CSE or ECE dual degree.

NIT Hamirpur Admission Process

The institute uses the central admission system followed by all 31 NITs in India. Undergraduate seats in B.Tech and B.Arch are allotted exclusively through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority, or JoSAA. For M.Tech and M.Arch, applicants use CCMT, the central counselling system for M.Tech, M.Arch and M.Plan. M.Sc entry is based on JAM.

4. Complete the relevant seat-allotment or institute selection stages. Depending on the course, selection uses entrance rank, category, quota, programme preference, an entrance test or an interview.

B.Tech and B.Arch Eligibility and Selection

• Students need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 75% aggregate. The minimum is 65% for SC/ST/PwD applicants.
• A valid JEE Main score is necessary, with both sessions considered.
• JoSAA assigns seats using JEE Main rank, category, branch choices and the Home State quota. Himachal Pradesh candidates have access to 50% of seats under the Home State category and its applicable fees.
• B.Arch applicants also need valid NATA and JEE Main Paper 2 scores.

M.Tech and M.Arch Requirements

Applicants to M.Tech must hold a B.Tech or B.E. degree with at least 60% marks; SC/ST applicants need 55%. They must also have a valid GATE score in the relevant discipline. CCMT handles seat allotment across participating NITs. At Hamirpur, the 17 M.Tech specialisations cover engineering and applied science subjects.

For M.Arch in Energy Efficient and Sustainable Architecture, students need a B.Arch degree and a valid GATE score. Admission uses CCMT.

MBA, M.Sc and PhD Requirements

A graduation score of 60% and a valid CAT or MAT score are needed for MBA admission, followed by the institute's selection process. For M.Sc in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, applicants take JAM, the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc conducted by the IITs/IISc.

NIT Hamirpur Placements

Campus hiring is organised by the Training and Placement Office, or TPO, for all engineering disciplines. Recruiter participation is strongest in CSE, ECE and Electrical Engineering. During 2023-24, B.Tech students received a highest offer of INR 58 LPA, while their overall average was INR 10 LPA. LPA means lakhs per annum. The CSE average reached INR 17.69 LPA.

NIT Hamirpur Rankings

NIRF evaluates NIT Hamirpur in Engineering as well as Architecture and Planning. Architecture has shown steady improvement in recent years and has a stronger national position than the institute's Engineering category.

The 2025 Architecture position of 30 compares with 32 in 2024. Engineering reached 97 in 2025, following the 101-150 band in 2024. NAAC has awarded the institute Grade A, and NBA accreditation covers its engineering programmes. Compared with some other NITs, its lower Engineering position reflects the effect of location on research output and placement measures.

NIT Hamirpur Campus and Infrastructure

At 780 metres above sea level, the 320-acre campus sits in the lower Himalayan foothills of Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. For core engineering, NIT Kurukshetra has the stronger overall position in this comparison, with Engineering rank 61 and NAAC Grade A+. NIT Jalandhar, ranked 73 in Engineering, benefits from better urban connections and access to Punjab's industrial belt.

NIT Hamirpur stands out for its separate Architecture programme. Its national Architecture rank of 30 is substantially better than its Engineering rank, making it a preferred regional option for B.Arch applicants. Its residential setting in the Himalayan foothills also shapes campus life.
