NIT Calicut Admission Dates 2027

NIT Calicut accepts different entrance exams for different course groups. B.Tech and B.Arch seats are filled through JoSAA using JEE Main or JEE Advanced scores. M.Tech admission is through CCMT based on GATE scores, while M.Sc admission is through JAM.

NIT Calicut Courses and Fees

NIT Calicut has more than 70 programmes across 15 departments and interdisciplinary schools. Its course list includes B.Tech branches such as Energy Engineering and Material Science Engineering, an integrated B.Sc + B.Ed for science teacher training, and an M.Plan in Urban Planning. The table gives the main course groups with total General category fees.

The tuition fee figures apply to General category students with family income above INR 5 Lakhs. Students whose family income is between INR 1 to 5 Lakhs pay a reduced tuition fee of INR 41,667 per year. Students with family income below INR 1 Lakh get a full tuition fee exemption. SC and ST students are exempt from tuition fees in all cases.

NIT Calicut Admission Process

B.Tech admission at NIT Calicut is handled through JoSAA. Students do not need to submit a separate NIT Calicut application after JEE Main registration. The same central process is followed for participating NITs, IITs, and IIITs.

B.Tech and B.Arch Admission

For B.Tech, students must pass 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and score at least 75% aggregate. The minimum is 65% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. A valid JEE Main score and the required Class 12 qualifying marks are needed to take part in JoSAA.

The admission steps are:

• Clear JEE Main with a score above the JoSAA cutoff
• Register on the JoSAA portal when registration is open
• Fill institute, programme, and category choices, with up to 25,000 combinations allowed
• Pay the seat acceptance fee after allotment
• Report to NITC for document checking and final admission confirmation

In the final round of JoSAA 2026, the CSE closing rank at NITC for the General AI category was 7,971. ECE closed at 10,440, while Civil Engineering closed at 36,432. The Home State quota for Kerala has a separate closing rank and is usually lower than the Other State quota.

M.Tech Admission

For M.Tech, applicants need a B.Tech degree in the relevant discipline with at least 60% marks. SC and ST candidates need 55%. Admission is done through CCMT counselling using a valid GATE score. NITC is a preferred choice for many GATE-qualified students because of its NIRF Engineering rank and campus reputation.

M.Sc Admission

M.Sc admission in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics is through JAM, the Joint Admission Test for Masters conducted by IITs. Students with a 3-year B.Sc degree, a relevant subject background, and at least 55% marks can apply. Seat allotment is done through the JAM counselling portal.

MBA and M.Plan Admission

For MBA, students need graduation with 50% marks and a valid CAT or CMAT score. M.Plan (Urban Planning) is open to students with B.Arch, B.Plan, or a relevant B.Tech degree. Admission is through a valid GATE score in Architecture and Planning or a NET score.

NIT Calicut Placements

The Training and Placement Division at NIT Calicut conducts campus recruitment. In the 2025 placement season, 224 companies took part and students received 1,006 job offers and 249 internship offers. The overall placement rate was 74.88%, and the highest package was INR 56.59 LPA.

For UG students, the highest package was INR 43.24 LPA, the average CTC was INR 13.39 LPA, and the median CTC was INR 10 LPA. PG programmes recorded a highest offer of INR 39.27 LPA and an average package of INR 11.51 LPA.

Recruiters come from IT, semiconductor, finance, consulting, and core engineering areas. Technology, BFSI, and manufacturing companies regularly hire from NITC. CSE and ECE get the highest number of offers. Production, Civil, and Chemical Engineering also receive opportunities from PSU recruiters, manufacturing firms, and software roles.

NIT Calicut Rankings

NIT Calicut holds strong positions in NIRF, especially in Architecture and Planning, where it is placed among the top institutes in India. The institute appears in all major NIRF categories.

The #2 Architecture and Planning rank gives NITC a major advantage for B.Arch aspirants. It places the institute second in India for this category, after IIT Kharagpur's architecture school. Students choosing branches during JoSAA counselling should note this rank carefully if they are targeting architecture.

NIT Calicut Scholarships

NIT Calicut students can get fee waivers and scholarships through the Ministry of Education framework, the MCM scholarship, and state-level schemes. Income-based tuition benefits are among the most useful because they apply from the first semester.

NIT Calicut Campus and Infrastructure

The institute has 15 student hostels, with 13 for boys and 2 for girls. NIT Calicut vs NIT Surathkal vs NIT Warangal

Students comparing South Indian NITs often look at NIT Calicut, NIT Surathkal (NIT Karnataka), and NIT Warangal together. These three institutes are among the top-25 NIT choices for many applicants with JEE Main ranks between 3,000 and 30,000. All three hold Institute of National Importance status and receive central government funding.

NIT Warangal and NIT Surathkal usually record higher NIRF Engineering ranks than NITC and attract lower JoSAA closing ranks for competitive branches such as CSE.
