The CBSE Class 12 Compartment Exam 2027 is expected in July 2027. CBSE has not announced the date, application form or fee yet. The board now uses the name Supplementary Examination, but it is the same exam that students commonly call the compartment exam.
The exam is meant for eligible students placed in the Compartment category. Students who passed the main exam may also get one subject for improvement. Regular students apply through their school, while eligible private candidates fill a separate online form.
CBSE will release the 2027 supplementary schedule after the main Class 12 result. The dates below use the completed 2026 cycle as a guide. They are tentative for 2027.
| Event | Tentative 2027 date | Date in 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Application starts | June 30, 2027 | June 30, 2026 |
| Last date | July 9, 2027 | July 9, 2026 after extension |
| Admit card | July 20, 2027 | July 20, 2026 |
| Theory exam | July 28, 2027 | July 28, 2026 |
| Practical exams | July 29 to August 4, 2027 | July 29 to August 4, 2026 |
| Result | August 12, 2027 | August 12, 2026 |
The 2026 theory papers started at 10:30 AM. Most papers ended at 1:30 PM, while some two-hour papers ended at 12:30 PM. The 2027 subject-wise timing will be given in the Class 12 date sheet.
The 2027 eligibility notice will be released after the main result. In 2026, the following students could apply.
| Result in the main exam | What was allowed in 2026 |
|---|---|
| Compartment in one subject | Appear in that subject |
| Six subjects, with Compartment in two | Choose any one of the two subjects |
| Passed with six subjects but failed one subject | Appear in the failed subject under Improvement, if that subject was offered |
| Passed the main exam | Improve marks in one subject offered in the supplementary exam |
Students placed in Compartment get up to three chances under the usual CBSE cycle. The first chance is the supplementary exam held after the main result. Later chances are taken as a private candidate. The 2027 notice will show which attempt applies to each batch.
Regular students do not submit the supplementary form on their own. They contact the school from which they appeared in the main exam. The school selects the roll number and subject, submits the List of Candidates through Pariksha Sangam and pays the fee online.
The school receives an application ID after final submission. A name entered in the form without payment is not accepted. Once the fee is paid and the final list is generated, changes are not normally allowed.
Eligible private candidates submit the form themselves on the CBSE website. The 2026 form asked for the previous roll number, school number and centre number, followed by the subject, address and preferred exam city. The student also uploaded a recent colour photograph and signature before paying the fee.
CBSE opened a separate private-candidate form in October 2026 for the 2027 main board exam. That is not the July 2027 supplementary form. The correct form depends on the attempt shown in the result and the new supplementary notice.
The 2027 fee has not been announced. The 2026 rates were ₹320 per subject in India, ₹1,100 in Nepal and ₹2,200 outside India. These figures can be used as a reference until CBSE publishes the new fee.
| Location | 2026 fee per subject | 2027 status |
|---|---|---|
| India | ₹320 | Not announced |
| Nepal | ₹1,100 | Not announced |
| Outside India | ₹2,200 | Not announced |
Visually impaired Class 12 students were exempt from the 2026 exam fee. Payment was accepted through debit card, credit card, net banking or UPI in India. CBSE did not accept challan payment.
The admit card is expected in July 2027. Regular students collect a signed and stamped copy from their school. The school downloads it through Pariksha Sangam.
Private candidates download the admit card online. In 2026, they also had to get the printed copy signed and stamped by the principal of their last school or by the superintendent of the allotted exam centre. The Class 12 admit card page will carry the new link after release.
The supplementary paper follows the same subject syllabus used for that year's main board exam. In 2026, CBSE used the 2025-26 syllabus. For the 2027 exam, the current CBSE Class 12 syllabus 2026-27 is the relevant study base unless the supplementary notice makes a change.
In the 2026 exam, most theory papers ran from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Selected music, fine arts and skill papers ran from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Students also received 15 minutes to read the question paper. The final paper length and timing for 2027 will be printed on the date sheet and admit card.
The question format and marks follow the subject. For example, a student appearing in Physics follows the Physics paper pattern, while a student appearing in English Core follows the English Core pattern. The Class 12 exam pattern explains the subject-wise theory and practical split.
A practical exam is required only when the result shows that the practical component must be repeated. CBSE uses two result codes for these cases.
| Result code | Exam to be taken |
|---|---|
| RP: Repeat in Practical | Practical only; earlier theory marks are carried forward |
| RB: Repeat in Theory and Practical Both | Both theory and practical |
Regular students take the practical at their school. Private candidates take it at the centre fixed for their theory exam. In 2026, students had to contact the school or centre with their mark sheet and admit card before the practical schedule began.
A student needs at least 33% in the subject to pass. For a subject with theory and practical or project work, CBSE requires 33% separately in theory and in the practical or project part, along with 33% in the subject total.
The minimum mark therefore depends on the split used by the subject. A 70-mark theory paper and an 80-mark theory paper do not have the same minimum theory mark. The subject-wise marks split should be checked before calculating the required score.
The result is expected in August 2027. The 2026 result was released on August 12 after the July 28 exam. Students can check the official CBSE result website with the details required on the result page.
A student whose main result was Compartment and who passes the supplementary exam receives a consolidated mark sheet. If the result still shows Compartment, the next eligible chance is taken under the rules for that batch. The Class 12 supplementary result page will be updated when the 2027 result is released.
The main notices and date sheet will appear on the official examination circulars page. The latest completed cycle can be checked in the 2026 Class 12 supplementary date sheet.
The exam is expected in July 2027. July 28 is the tentative date used from the completed 2026 cycle. CBSE has not announced the 2027 date.
A student who had six subjects and received Compartment in two could choose any one of those subjects under the 2026 rules. The 2027 notice will confirm the same rule for the new exam.
No. The school submits the List of Candidates for regular students. Eligible private candidates use a separate online form.
No. Students marked RP repeat only the practical. Students marked RB repeat both theory and practical. Other students follow the paper shown in their result and admit card.
