The paper started with MCQs and then moved to 3-mark, 4-mark and 6-mark answers. There was no overall choice, but some written questions had an internal choice.
| Question numbers | Questions | Marks each | Total marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 10 and 18 to 27 | 20 | 1 | 20 |
| 11 to 12 and 28 to 29 | 4 | 3 | 12 |
| 13 to 15 and 30 to 32 | 6 | 4 | 24 |
| 16 to 17 and 33 to 34 | 4 | 6 | 24 |
| Total | 34 | – | 80 |
Section A covered Macroeconomics in Questions 1 to 17. Section B covered Indian Economic Development in Questions 18 to 34. Both sections followed the same mix of ten MCQs, two 3-mark questions, three 4-mark questions and two 6-mark questions.
The paper tested calculations, short explanations and questions based on current or real-life situations. The questions below are from paper code 58/1/1. Other booklets may place similar topics under different question numbers.
The MCQs covered the circular flow of income, money, exchange rates, deflationary gap, GDP, consumption and saving, balance of payments and money supply. The written questions moved beyond definitions. One question asked students to compare GDP at current prices with GDP after removing the effect of inflation. Another asked how the RBI works as the banker to the government.
Question 13 used two firms to test Gross Value Added and domestic sales. The marking scheme gave marks for each correct step, including the GVA calculation and the final domestic-sales figures. Question 14 asked students to separate a business loan taken for expansion from a government loan taken to manage a balance-of-payments problem. The first was an autonomous transaction, while the second was an accommodating transaction.
This section covered the colonial economy, economic planning, employment, human capital, India’s comparison with China and Pakistan, outsourcing, disinvestment and trade agreements. Question 28 connected health spending with human development. Question 32 used a worker-distribution chart and asked students to read differences between male and female employment across sectors.
The 6-mark questions joined more than one part of a unit. Question 33 linked India’s position as an outsourcing centre with skills and communication systems, then tested tariff policy. Question 34 used a passage on education schemes and asked how public spending on education affects social and economic development.
The Class 12 syllabus gives the subject units, while the Class 12 exam pattern explains the common board-paper rules.
CBSE has a separate marking scheme for each 2026 paper code. The scheme gives the expected answer points and the marks for different parts of a question. It also says that the listed points are a guide, not the only acceptable wording. A correct answer written in a student’s own words can receive marks.
For numerical questions, marks can be split across the working. In Question 13 of paper 58/1/1, the four marks were divided across the GVA steps and the two domestic-sales calculations. The scheme also says that one continuing calculation error should not be penalised more than once.
The paper-code-wise files are available in the Class 12 marking-scheme archive.
The available 2025 papers are Set 1 with code 58/1/1 and Set 3 with code 58/1/3.

The marking scheme divides marks across the required steps in many numerical questions. A correct method can therefore earn marks even when the final answer has a later calculation mistake.
No. Each marking scheme is linked to one paper code, and question numbers or wording can differ between codes.
