IIT JAM 2027 Registration Dates

Apply through the JAM Online Application Processing System, or JOAPS, on jam.iitkgp.ac.in. IIT Kharagpur is organising the 2027 examination. Registration falls in 2026, so the application deadline and examination year are different.

The IIT JAM 2027 schedule also covers paper sessions, results and the separate admission process. Registering for the examination does not complete the later application for an IIT seat.

Who Can Apply for JAM 2027?

You can apply after completing an undergraduate degree or while appearing in the final qualifying-degree examination in 2027. There is no minimum percentage, age limit or limit on attempts for appearing in JAM. Candidates with backlogs can also apply. Foreign nationals are eligible to take the examination.

Admission has additional conditions. You must complete the undergraduate programme before the admitting institute's admission date and submit proof within its deadline. Each programme specifies the qualifying degree, subjects studied and accepted JAM paper. A valid application or qualifying score does not remove these programme requirements.

For example, taking Mathematics and Physics in different sessions is possible, but the two papers do not make you eligible for every MSc programme. Check the subjects required in your undergraduate degree before paying for a second paper.

IIT JAM 2027 Application Fees

The reduced fee applies to female candidates and to SC, ST or PwD candidates. OBC-NCL or EWS status alone does not place a candidate in the reduced-fee group. Bank or payment-gateway charges, where applicable, are extra.

For a new application, choosing two papers instead of one adds INR 350 for the reduced-fee group and INR 700 for other candidates. These are differences between the application fees, not the full charge for every later correction.

Payment and changes after submission

Pay online using net banking, debit card, credit card, UPI or wallet. Check that JOAPS confirms the payment after the payment gateway returns you to the application. Complete the form submission after JOAPS confirms the payment.

A change of examination city, test paper, category, gender or date of birth carries INR 300 plus any applicable fee difference. Correcting a document defect identified during scrutiny is free. The application fee is non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another candidate.

Documents and Upload Specifications

• Class 10/SSC marksheet showing date of birth.
• Recent colour photograph and scanned signature.
• Category certificate for OBC-NCL, EWS, SC or ST, where claimed.
• Disability certificate and UDID number, where applicable; prescribed supporting forms for a scribe or compensatory time.
• Details of the photo ID that you will carry to the examination.
• Qualifying-degree details, institution name and address, communication address with PIN code, and parent or guardian details.

Photograph and signature

The document-upload instructions give a higher minimum of 50 KB for both images. Preparing a 50-200 KB photograph and a 50-150 KB signature keeps the files within both published ranges.

Use a white or very light background for the photograph. Your face must cover at least half the image, with the forehead, eyes, nose, ears and chin visible. Clear glasses are allowed if there is no glare; dark or tinted glasses are not.

Sign in black or dark blue ink on white paper. A name written in capital letters or initials alone is not accepted. Keep the signature horizontal; the required width-to-height ratio is 3.15-4.04. The photograph's width-to-height ratio is 0.66-0.89.

Category and disability certificates

OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must use the prescribed format and be issued on or after 1 April 2026. Upload the relevant certificate as a PDF of 10-300 KB. Certificates must be issued by the authorised officials, and the same documents may be required during admission.

If an updated OBC-NCL or EWS certificate is pending, the JAM FAQ allows an existing certificate at application, followed by rectification within the deadline communicated to you. That provision does not remove the requirement to provide a valid certificate.

How to Fill the JOAPS Application

1. Open JAM 2027 on jam.iitkgp.ac.in and enter JOAPS. Register with your name, own active email address and mobile number, and create a password.
2. Keep the enrolment ID sent after registration. Use it with your password to resume the form.
3. Enter personal, communication and qualifying-degree details. Select the test paper or papers and three examination-city preferences.
4. Upload the photograph, signature, date-of-birth proof and applicable certificates.
5. Save and view the application. Correct names, dates, category, paper codes and uploads before payment.
6. Pay the fee online, return to JOAPS and check the confirmation. Save the completed application and payment record.

JOAPS lets you save a partly filled form and return later. Complete the remaining fields, upload the documents, pay the fee and submit the application before the deadline.

Use one application for one or two papers. Do not create a second form just to add another subject. You do not need to post a printout to IIT Kharagpur or another JAM institute.

Choosing Test Papers and Exam Cities

You may take two papers only if they fall in different sessions. Mathematics + Physics and Chemistry + Biotechnology are possible combinations. Mathematics + Chemistry and Physics + Economics are not, because each pair shares a session.

Select three city preferences. The first city determines your examination zone; the second and third choices must belong to that same zone. If none can be allotted for operational reasons, an alternative city may be assigned. The application records preferences, while the admit card gives the allotted centre and full address.

Before deciding on a second subject, try the relevant IIT JAM 2025 question papers. The papers help you compare the actual subject questions without assuming that similar paper names mean the same syllabus.

Correction, Scrutiny and Payment Problems

Application under scrutiny or marked defective

Under scrutiny means the uploaded details and documents are being checked. Scrutiny can continue after registration closes. If a photograph, signature or certificate needs correction, JAM sends an email or SMS and shows the defect in JOAPS. Upload the replacement within the deadline given for your application.

A defective signature does not immediately mean rejection. You are given an opportunity to replace it, but an unresolved defect can lead to provisional status or rejection. A paid change to your paper or city is a different process from correcting that document.

Money deducted but payment not confirmed

Log in again after about an hour and check the JOAPS payment status. If the fee still does not appear, the payment instructions require a fresh online payment. A failed transaction that debits the account without a JOAPS acknowledgement is returned to the original account; keep the transaction reference for follow-up.

Changing submitted details

Use the correction options enabled in JOAPS for permitted changes. The application deadline is not a promise that all fields remain editable until that date, and a later correction window is not an extension for submitting a new form.
