IIT JAM Answer Key 2027 Dates

The 2027 answer-key release date, response-sheet window and objection deadline have not been announced. IIT Kharagpur is the organising institute; the portal is jam.iitkgp.ac.in.

The dates in this schedule belong to JAM 2026. The answer-key release and objection dates for 2027 are yet to be announced.

Answer Key, Master Paper and Response Sheet

Use all three together. The 2027 exam displays questions in a random sequence, so a question appearing as number 5 on your screen should not be matched blindly to question 5 in a master PDF. Match the question identifier where supplied and check the question text and options.

1. Choose the correct paper code: BT, CY, EN, GG, MA, MS or PH.
2. Use the master paper and answer key from the same year and version.
3. Compare each recorded response with the matching master question.
4. Separate correct, incorrect and unattempted responses by question type and mark value.
5. Recalculate after a revised or final key if any accepted answer changes.

A worked solution explains the method; the official answer key controls the accepted answer for scoring. A coaching explanation and your remembered response do not replace the official key and recorded response.

MCQ, MSQ and NAT Marking

The JAM exam pattern has 30 MCQs worth 50 marks, 10 MSQs worth 20 marks and 20 NAT questions worth 30 marks. Only Section A, containing MCQs, has negative marking.

MSQ: all correct options, no extra option

Suppose an MSQ key gives A and C. Selecting only A earns zero, and selecting A, C and D also earns zero. Selecting exactly A and C earns two marks. There is no one-mark credit for a partly correct selection and no negative mark for a wrong one.

NAT: compare with the accepted range

A numerical key may give an interval rather than one displayed number. In the official 2026 Mathematics key, Question 52 accepts 0.24 to 0.26. A response of 0.25 falls inside that interval; 0.27 does not. Use the interval printed for the particular question rather than rounding every answer to a whole number.

How to Calculate Your Raw Score

Raw score = marks for correct answers - MCQ penalties. Subtract one-third for each wrong one-mark MCQ and two-thirds for each wrong two-mark MCQ. Incorrect MSQs, incorrect NATs and all unanswered questions earn zero.

This example uses 49 attempts, with 11 questions unattempted. The MCQ deductions total 5 marks: 1 mark from the three wrong one-mark MCQs and 4 marks from the six wrong two-mark MCQs. The final score is 46 out of 100.

Keep the fractions until the final total. Subtracting 0.33 or 0.67 repeatedly can create a rounding difference. Also keep the two NAT mark groups separate: ten NAT questions carry one mark each and ten carry two marks each.

The result is a raw-mark estimate using the key you chose. It cannot produce an exact AIR because rank depends on the performance of the candidates in that paper.

How to Raise an Answer-key Objection

An objection needs a specific reason why the published answer or numerical range is wrong. Prepare the paper code, master question reference, published answer, proposed correction and supporting calculation or source before submitting it.

In 2026, challenges were submitted through JOAPS. For 2027, use the challenge facility and instructions issued by IIT Kharagpur after the key is released. The 2027 challenge fee and refund conditions are not confirmed yet.

A disagreement with the explanation is not automatically a wrong key. For an MSQ, test every option; for a NAT, check units, sign and the accepted interval. If your response differs because you entered the wrong value, that is different from an error in the official answer.

Keep the submission acknowledgement and payment record if a fee applies. The challenge concerns the published question or key; changing the response recorded during the examination is not the same process.

The 2025 papers provide questions and solutions across all seven subjects. Use the matching subject, especially when choosing between Mathematics (MA) and Mathematical Statistics (MS).

After solving a paper, compare the response first and then read the method for questions you missed. Keep incorrect MCQs separate from incomplete MSQs: one reduces your score, while the other earns zero without a deduction.

From Answer Key to Result

The official result gives the paper-wise rank; an answer-key calculation gives only marks. There is no single marks-to-rank table that can reliably apply to Biotechnology, Physics, Mathematics and the other papers together.

Qualification and admission are also different. Programme choices must match the accepted JAM paper and your undergraduate subjects. Even a strong raw score does not waive an IIT's academic eligibility requirements.

The JAM 2027 dates place the result on 18 March. Save the response sheet and the key used for your calculation so that you can investigate a specific difference if the final marks do not match.
