Latest Update:

IIT JAM 2026 Expected Cutoff for IITs

The IIT JAM exam serves as a gateway to admissions in M.Sc. and integrated PhD programs in the premier IITs. The cutoff varies each year due to factors such as difficulty level of the exam, number of students appearing and seat availability.

High Competition: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur have higher cutoffs than other IITs. IIT Bombay cutoff (70 - 85 marks) is about 10 - 15% higher than IIT Kanpur and IITRoorkee making it the most competitive IIT to get admissions in M.Sc. and PhD courses.

Limited Seats and High Demand: IITs offer only around 1500 seats for M.Sc. courses resulting in highly competitive admissions. Older IITs such as IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi have higher cutoffs as compared to the cutoffs of newer IITs like IIT Ropar (40 - 50 marks) as they have a lower number of students applying to the institute.

Increasing Cutoffs: Over the last few years, cutoffs have increased by 8 - 12% due to a rise in IIT JAM applicants, newer IITs now offering M.Sc. programs and a significant improvement in IIT JAM performance levels.
