IIT JAM 2027 Important Dates

IIT Kharagpur is conducting the 2027 examination. The registration period falls in 2026, while the test and admission cycle fall in 2027. The announced result date is 18 March; a separate scorecard download date should not be inferred from it.

The admission brochure is planned for the second week of March. Exact admission-application and allotment dates have not been announced.

IIT JAM 2027 Paper-wise Timings

You can take one paper or two papers scheduled in different sessions. Chemistry and Physics form a valid timing combination; Chemistry and Mathematics do not, because both run in the morning. Likewise, Biotechnology and Economics cannot be taken together.

Choosing two papers gives you two separate three-hour tests on the same day. It does not merge them into a single paper or combine their marks into one score.

Paper choice and admission: A clash-free pair is only the timetable requirement. Each postgraduate programme has its own eligible test paper and minimum educational qualifications. Match both with the degree subjects you have studied before selecting the second paper.

Registration and Application Correction

Complete the JOAPS application by 19 October 2026. The process includes registration, personal and academic details, paper selection, three city preferences, document uploads and electronic fee payment. JOAPS allows a partly filled form to be saved and resumed.

Your first city choice fixes the examination zone. The second and third cities must be selected from that same zone. The allotted venue appears on the admit card; a city preference is not a centre-address confirmation.

Scrutiny and paid changes

JOAPS shows whether the form is submitted, under scrutiny, accepted or needs a defect corrected. Photograph, signature or certificate defects raised during scrutiny are different from a request to change a paper, category or city. Fixing an identified document defect does not carry a correction fee.

For paid changes, use the available JOAPS options and the fee shown for the change. Adding a second paper can involve the difference in paper fees as well as the applicable change charge. The paid-correction window is separate from the application deadline.

Admit Card and Examination Day

The JAM 2027 admit card is scheduled for 5 January 2027 through JOAPS. It carries the paper name and code, candidate details, photograph, signature and allotted test-centre address. Download access continues until examination day.

Carry a printed admit card and the original, valid photo ID used in the application. A phone image or scanned ID does not replace the required documents. If the admit card has an error, contact the JAM office at jam@iitkgp.ac.in.

Reporting time and additional time

The session start times are 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. Use the reporting instructions on the admit card for arrival; these start times should not be treated as gate-closing times.

Eligible candidates can receive 60 minutes of compensatory time per paper. This includes eligible persons with less than 40% disability who have difficulty in writing. The prescribed certificates and application requirements apply; candidates eligible for a scribe can receive the extra time even without using a scribe. Where a candidate is not eligible for a scribe, the required government medical certificate must establish the physical limitation to write.

With the approved extra hour, the morning paper ends at 1:30 PM and the afternoon paper at 6:30 PM. Required forms for the facility belong to the application process.

Result and Admission Schedule

The JAM 2027 result is scheduled for 18 March 2027. Admission is based on the relevant paper rank, programme requirements, reservation rules and available seats. The qualifying cutoff and the closing rank of a particular programme answer different questions: one identifies qualification in the test, while the other reflects seat allotment.

Qualified candidates apply separately for admission. One admission application can cover all programmes for which they qualify, including candidates who qualify in two papers. The exact 2027 admission timeline will accompany the admission process; previous-year rounds are not 2027 deadlines.

Final-year applicants must complete the undergraduate programme before the admitting institute's admission date. The institute also sets the deadline for proof of passing. An exam result date therefore does not replace the degree-completion requirement.
