IIT JAM 2027 Toppers and Result Date

IIT Kharagpur will conduct JAM 2027 on 14 February 2027, with results scheduled for 18 March 2027. The 2027 toppers have not been announced. The names and marks in the next sections belong to the completed 2026 examination.

JAM has seven subject papers. A Mathematics AIR 1 and a Physics AIR 1 lead different merit lists; they are not competing for one combined first rank. If you take two papers, each paper has its own result and admission routes.

IIT JAM 2026 Subject-wise AIR 1

Sakshi Nijwala topped Biotechnology, Ayushi Agrawal topped Chemistry and Suryoday Sethi topped Economics in JAM 2026. IIT Bombay published separate top-ten lists for each subject.

Each subject has its own AIR 1 and top-ten list. Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics are separate papers, so their rank holders belong to different merit lists.

Choose the subject you appeared for when comparing ranks. Mathematics (MA) and Mathematical Statistics (MS) have separate lists, even though parts of their syllabus overlap.

Highest Marks in IIT JAM 2026

JAM papers carry 100 marks, but first place does not require a perfect score. In 2026, the highest raw score ranged from 68.67 in Physics to 87.33 in Economics. The marks needed for AIR 1 vary by subject and examination year.

The qualifying cutoff and the highest score answer different questions. For example, the 2026 Mathematics GEN cutoff was 12.65, while the maximum was 82.67. Clearing 12.65 meant clearing that category threshold; it did not place a candidate near the top of the merit list.

AIR, Qualifying Cutoff and Admission Rank

The highest marks are not an admission cutoff. A programme can close at a much later rank than AIR 1, and two programmes at the same IIT can have different closing ranks. Compare the exact course and seat category in the IIT JAM cutoff tables, not an institute-wide rank range.

A reserved-category qualifying threshold does not change which paper you took. Likewise, a top-ten list is not a category-wise seat-allotment list. Keep the subject, year and type of rank together when checking an admission option.

Does AIR 1 Guarantee Your Preferred IIT Course?

A first rank puts you at the top of your test-paper list, but you still need to meet the chosen programme's educational requirements and complete the admission application. Each IIT programme specifies the accepted JAM paper and the degree or subjects required.

For example, being first in Mathematics does not automatically satisfy a programme that requires another test paper or a particular undergraduate subject combination. A final-year student must also complete all parts of the degree before the admitting institute's admission date and provide proof within its deadline.

Admission considers AIR, the applicable reservation rules and available seats. Examination registration and admission registration are separate. Result-sharing institutes can also require a separate application through their own admission process.
