IIT JAM 2026 Mathematics Question Paper

The Mathematics question collection contains memory-based questions on sequences, power series, groups, matrices, differential equations and counting. The separate Mathematics solutions explain the steps for the corresponding problems.

Matrix questions require the correct row and column dimensions. For groups, the operation matters as much as the set: changing the operation can change the identity and other group properties.

For sequences, calculate the even and odd subsequence limits when an alternating term is present. For power series, the radius of convergence and behaviour at the boundary are separate questions. A ratio-test calculation alone does not settle the endpoints.

Mathematics corrections: Questions 5 and 12 are incomplete and cannot be scored. In Question 17, PQ = 0 places the columns of Q in the null space of P; the options do not state this correctly.

IIT JAM 2026 Chemistry Question Paper

The Chemistry question collection includes memory-based questions on molecular geometry, phosphorus oxides, xenon compounds, gas behaviour, adsorption, crystal structures, heat capacity and radioactive decay. The Chemistry solutions give the corresponding explanations.

Molecular-shape questions require a distinction between electron-pair geometry and molecular geometry. In calculations, record the units before substituting: an enthalpy integral uses absolute temperature if the heat capacity depends on temperature, while a constant heat-capacity calculation uses the temperature difference.

Chemistry corrections: Question 6 needs a Bragg angle to calculate interplanar spacing. The answer to Question 1 assumes a structure that the question does not establish. Neither question has a reliable scoring answer in this collection.

In crystal structures, corner, face and edge atoms contribute different fractions to a unit cell because neighbouring cells share them. Radioactive-decay questions may ask for the amount remaining or the amount lost; these are different quantities.

Full Paper Structure and Marking

The IIT JAM examination has 60 questions for 100 marks in three hours. Section A carries 50 marks, Section B carries 20 and Section C carries 30.

Section A has ten 1-mark and twenty 2-mark questions. Section B has ten 2-mark questions. Section C has ten 1-mark and ten 2-mark questions. An unanswered question earns zero.

For an MSQ, selecting only one correct option when two are required earns zero. Selecting both correct options plus an incorrect option also earns zero. No negative marking does not mean partial credit.

Match Solutions to the Right Question

The final 2026 answer key follows the master question paper. The question and option order shown to a candidate during the examination can differ. Match the actual question and choices before comparing an answer letter.

Match memory-based questions by their statement and options, since their numbering can differ from the master paper. For a numerical answer, compare your result with the accepted range for that question.

Calculate Marks, Not Just Correct Answers

Suppose you get six 1-mark MCQs and twelve 2-mark MCQs right. Three 1-mark and three 2-mark MCQs are wrong. You also answer five MSQs correctly, six 1-mark NATs correctly and four 2-mark NATs correctly; all remaining questions are unanswered.

This attempt has 33 correct answers but scores 51 marks. A percentage based only on the number correct misses the different question weights and MCQ deductions.

Using 2026 Papers for JAM 2027

Use the IIT JAM syllabus to match each older question to the current paper. Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics are separate papers: a Mathematics collection cannot replace statistics topics such as estimation, hypothesis testing and distributions.

For matrix questions, multiplying a 3 × 3 matrix by 2 multiplies its determinant by 2³, not 2. In decay calculations, distinguish the fraction remaining from the fraction that has decayed.

Reserve a complete, previously unseen 60-question paper for a three-hour attempt. Use a virtual scientific calculator and apply the section-wise deductions afterward. Use the memory-based questions for shorter sessions on individual topics.
