IIT JAM 2027 Exam Cities: Zone-wise List

JAM 2027 has eight examination zones. The published city list is tentative: cities can be added or removed for operational reasons. The options below are city preferences, not addresses of individual examination buildings.

Jhansi is listed in the IIT Kanpur zone, Jamshedpur in IIT Kharagpur, and Lakshadweep in IIT Madras. These entries appear in the current city list even though they are absent from the city table in brochure version 2.

The list uses location names such as Bengaluru North and Bengaluru South separately. Preserve that distinction when selecting an option in JOAPS. A zone is an administrative grouping; it is not the same as a state boundary.

How to Choose Three Examination Cities

Select your first, second and third city preferences while filling JOAPS. The first choice determines the zone, and both remaining choices must be in that same zone. The third choice cannot come from an arbitrary zone.

These examples follow the official zone grouping; they are not a promise that one of the three cities will be allotted. If the selected cities cannot be allotted for operational reasons, JAM can assign an alternative city.

Nearby cities can belong to different zones

Greater NOIDA is in the IIT Delhi zone, while NOIDA is in the IIT Roorkee zone. Hyderabad is in the IISc Bengaluru zone, while Warangal is in the IIT Madras zone. These pairs cannot be used together as preferences under the same-zone rule, even though the city names or location may suggest a convenient combination.

A college in an IIT zone does not have to be your intended admission institute. Choosing Mumbai for the test does not limit a later admission application to IIT Bombay. Exam-city selection and programme preferences are separate decisions.

Can You Change Your IIT JAM Exam City?

A permitted city change carries INR 300 plus any applicable fee difference. Use the change facility enabled in JOAPS and check the revised choices before submitting. A city-only change does not by itself change the fee category or number of papers; those additional changes can affect the amount payable.

The last date for a new application is 19 October 2026. Do not treat that as a confirmed deadline for a separate correction window. The IIT JAM 2027 schedule distinguishes the application period from later stages.

Changing a preference during an enabled correction period is different from changing an allotted venue after the hall ticket is issued. The published fee provision does not promise a replacement centre after allotment. For an error or an unresolved centre-related issue, contact the JAM office at jam@iitkgp.ac.in.

Document defects raised during scrutiny can be rectified without a correction fee. That free process should not be confused with a request to change your examination city.

How to Find Your Allotted Exam Centre

The JAM 2027 admit card is scheduled for 5 January 2027. It gives the allotted test-centre name and address. Your three application preferences are not a booking at a particular college, school or computer lab.

Read the complete address before arranging your journey. A familiar city name is not enough to identify the building, and a previous-year venue in that city is not confirmation of this year's centre. Follow the reporting instructions printed on your hall ticket.

Carry the printed admit card and the original, valid photo ID entered in your application. Indian candidates can use the registered Aadhaar-UID, passport, PAN card, voter ID or driving licence. A photocopy, scan or expired document does not replace the required original.

Are there centres outside India?

No. JAM 2027 has no international examination centres. Foreign nationals can apply, but they must select from the examination-city options in India. Their accepted ID can be a valid passport, government-issued photo ID or driving licence.

Paper Sessions and Travel Between Tests

The examination is on 14 February 2027. A two-paper application must combine one morning and one afternoon paper. Chemistry + Physics is possible; Chemistry + Mathematics is not because both are in the morning.

For a two-paper application, check both paper entries and all venue instructions on the admit card before planning the break. The timetable alone does not identify a building or guarantee where you can wait between sessions.

The standard morning paper ends at 12:30 PM, leaving two hours before the 2:30 PM afternoon start. Eligible candidates with an approved extra hour finish the morning paper at 1:30 PM instead. This difference matters when planning the break, but it does not change the reporting instructions for the afternoon paper.
