IIT JAM Counselling 2027 Dates

The result is scheduled for 18 March. The detailed admission brochure is planned for the second week of March and will set out the admission timeline. Registration, choice deadlines and allotment dates have not been announced yet. The IIT JAM 2027 schedule also covers the examination and result milestones.

The announced admission framework allows up to four regular rounds, with an additional round possible if seats remain. An older cycle's fifth or sixth round is not a promise of the same number of rounds in 2027.

Who Can Apply for IIT Admission?

You must qualify in JAM and meet the Eligibility Requirements and Minimum Educational Qualifications of the programme you choose. Exam qualification and programme eligibility are separate checks. A strong AIR does not replace a required undergraduate subject.

Final-year students can take part, but the undergraduate programme must be completed before admission. The admitting institute specifies the deadline for submitting proof. Waiting for a printed degree certificate after passing is different from having an uncleared backlog.

The IIT JAM eligibility guide compares programme-specific subject requirements. Some courses accept a wide range of degrees, while others specify a subject for a certain number of semesters. Match the exact programme code and accepted JAM paper, not just the institute name.

Foreign nationals with an Indian degree can apply through the stated admission route, subject to the admitting institute's policy. Being allowed to sit JAM does not by itself establish admission eligibility for every qualification.

Admission Application and Programme Preferences

JAM exam registration does not register you for admission. After qualifying, submit the separate admission application through the JAM 2027 portal. One application can cover all programmes for which you are eligible, including if you qualify in two test papers.

1. Open the admission application provided through the JAM 2027 portal when the window begins.
2. Enter the required academic details, marks or CGPA, category and PwD status.
3. Select programmes that accept your JAM paper and meet your degree/subject background.
4. Arrange the programmes in your genuine order of preference.
5. Pay the INR 750 processing fee and retain the submitted application and payment record.

Why preference order matters

Consider an illustrative order: Programme A first, Programme B second and Programme C third. If C is offered and you accept with an upgrade option, A and B are the higher preferences for later consideration. A programme listed below C is not a higher-preference upgrade.

Do not place a less-preferred course first merely because its old closing rank looks easier to reach. The order tells the admission process which eligible option you prefer. A lower cutoff is not a reason to misstate that order.

The detailed 2027 admission instructions will specify the choice-editing and submission deadlines. Do not assume that saving an unfinished form completes the application or that choices can be changed after every allotment.

What Happens After a Seat Offer?

If you accept the seat, complete the acceptance step and pay the applicable booking fee within the deadline in the offer. Selecting an acceptance option without completing a required payment does not finish the seat-booking process.

An upgrade considers only programmes placed higher in your submitted preferences. It is not an open request to move to any institute. Revisit the portal for subsequent offers and follow the round-specific instructions.

An offer remains subject to eligibility and document verification. Check the programme, paper route, category and candidate details. If a discrepancy appears, raise the exact issue through the contact route stated in the admission portal, with the relevant record rather than an unsupported request to change the allotment.

Counselling Fees and Seat Booking

The INR 750 processing fee is paid with the admission application. The seat-booking fee is paid after an offer, together with acceptance. They are different payments at different stages.

Seat booking is transferred to the admitting institute and adjusted against its fee at registration. It is not the full MSc tuition fee and does not automatically cover hostel, mess or other institute charges.

For a GEN candidate who accepts a seat, the two stated payments total INR 15,750 before the institute's remaining charges. For an SC/ST/PwD candidate, they total INR 8,250. These totals combine processing and seat booking only; the processing fee remains non-refundable.

The 2027 withdrawal timetable and seat-booking refund conditions are not specified in the current admission summary. Do not treat "reject and quit" as a promise of a full refund or carry over an older cycle's deduction amount.

Documents for Admission

Degree and subject proof

Keep the semester-wise marksheets together. If a programme requires Physics for four semesters and Mathematics for two, the records must show those subjects and durations. A degree title alone may not answer that requirement.

For a final-year candidate, the institute decides which completion documents it accepts and when they are due. A provisional certificate or final result record is not the same as a pending examination; the degree must still be completed in time.

Category and disability documents

The current 2027 requirements call for OBC-NCL and EWS certificates issued on or after 1 April 2026, in the prescribed format. SC/ST certificates must come from the specified competent authority. For a PwD claim, provide the disability certificate and UDID number.

Exam accommodations and reserved-seat eligibility are not identical. Some candidates with writing difficulty below the benchmark-disability threshold can receive exam facilities without qualifying for a PwD reserved seat.

An admitting institute may require a physical-fitness certificate or its own medical examination. Follow that institute's requirement rather than assuming that one common medical form applies to every admission application.

JAM IIT Admission, CCMN and IISc

The JAM 2027 admission application described here covers around 3,000 seats at 23 admitting IITs. For this stated IIT route, admission is based on JAM and programme eligibility without an additional written test or interview.

JAM scores are also shared with other institutions. CCMN is a separate route for the relevant MSc/MSc (Tech) programmes at participating institutions, including NITs. Its registration, fees, choices and rounds are not part of the same IIT admission form.

IISc and other result-sharing institutions apply their own programme rules. A score being accepted by an institution does not mean that every course there uses the same selection process. Do not extend the no-interview rule for the stated IIT route to all IISc programmes.

If you want options through both IIT admission and a result-sharing route, track their applications separately. Completing one does not automatically submit the other.

Using Cutoffs and Completing Institute Admission

Compare your AIR with the admission closing rank for the same programme, JAM paper, category and round. Qualifying marks tell you whether you cleared the test; a closing admission rank describes the allotments in one group. They are not interchangeable.

Previous-year ranks can help you compare options, but the current seat matrix and preferences determine the new allotment. A programme accepting two papers has separate paper routes; a rank from one paper cannot be substituted into the other route.

1. Confirm the offered programme and category before accepting.
2. Complete acceptance and payment within the offer deadline.
3. Save the offer, receipt and submitted documents.
4. Meet the admitting institute's original-document, remaining-fee and registration requirements.
5. Submit degree-completion and subject proof by the institute's deadline.

An admission offer is not the end of verification. If the degree or required subjects do not meet the programme conditions, a favourable rank cannot correct that mismatch.
