IIT JAM Result 2027 Date

IIT Kharagpur will publish the result through the JAM 2027 portal at jam.iitkgp.ac.in. The scorecard download window has not been announced separately. Result declaration and a downloadable scorecard need not begin on the same day.

For example, the 2026 result notice was issued on 19 March, while scorecard downloads began on 26 March. Those are previous-cycle dates, not the 2027 download schedule. The IIT JAM 2027 schedule also separates registration, the examination and later admission events.

How to Check the Result and Download the Scorecard

1. Open jam.iitkgp.ac.in and follow the result or JOAPS login provided for JAM 2027.
2. Log in with your enrolment credentials. If needed, use the recovery option linked to your registered contact details.
3. Open the result for the paper you appeared in. If you took two papers, check each paper separately.
4. When scorecard downloads are enabled, save the document and check the candidate details, paper, marks and rank.
5. Keep the saved scorecard for the admission application and institute verification.

Match the paper code carefully: MA is Mathematics, while MS is Mathematical Statistics. A screenshot of one paper's result cannot establish your result in the other.

If the portal is busy, retain the login details and try again after the connection recovers. Repeatedly resetting a working password does not resolve a server outage. For a personal-detail mismatch, contact the JAM office at jam@iitkgp.ac.in with your enrolment number and the exact error; do not send your password.

Marks, All India Rank and Qualification

JAM awards a separate AIR for each test paper. If you take Mathematics and Physics, the two results are not added together to create one combined rank. Each programme accepts the JAM paper specified for that course.

A score of 46 out of 100 is 46% of the available marks. It is not the 46th percentile, and it does not identify an AIR without the other candidates' results. The same raw marks can lead to very different positions in different papers.

The exam uses 60 questions for 100 marks. Only wrong MCQs attract negative marking; wrong MSQs and NAT answers score zero. The IIT JAM marking scheme explains the one- and two-mark question groups. Keep that distinction when comparing a self-calculated score with the result.

IIT JAM 2026 Qualifying Cutoffs

The cutoffs below are the actual 2026 qualifying marks from IIT Bombay's statistical report. They are not expected 2027 cutoffs or admission closing ranks.

For a GEN candidate, the 2026 qualifying cutoff was 42.30 in Biotechnology but 12.65 in Mathematics. A single claim such as "30 marks is enough for every JAM paper" would therefore be wrong even within the same year.

Use the applicable paper and category column. Clearing a qualifying cutoff lets you meet the test-qualification requirement; a particular IIT seat can still require a much stronger rank and the correct undergraduate subjects.

How Many Candidates Qualified in JAM 2026?

Across the seven paper rows, the report records 48,170 appearances and 15,814 qualifications, or 32.8%. These totals add paper-wise counts; a person taking two papers can contribute to two rows, so they should not be presented as a count of distinct people.

The qualifying percentage uses candidates who appeared, not all registrations. It also does not measure the percentage who secured admission: qualification and seat allotment are separate stages. In 2026, Physics had a 49.3% qualification rate and Economics 22.4%, but those rates alone do not measure how easy each paper was for an individual student.

What Happens After the IIT JAM Result?

Admission to participating IIT programmes

JAM 2027 covers around 3,000 postgraduate seats at 23 admitting IITs. Qualified candidates who meet a programme's Eligibility Requirements and Minimum Educational Qualifications apply separately for admission. No additional interview or written test is required for the stated IIT admission route.

One admission application can cover all eligible programmes, including when you qualify in two test papers. Arrange programme preferences in the order you actually want them. The non-refundable admission application processing fee is INR 750.

The seat-booking payment is INR 15,000 for GEN/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates and INR 7,500 for SC/ST/PwD candidates. It is adjusted against the admitting institute's fee. Meet the response and payment deadline for the round; the scorecard alone does not reserve a seat.

Result-sharing institutes

Other institutions also use JAM scores, but their admission routes are separate. The 2027 brochure identifies IISc, NITs and other result-sharing institutions. CCMN handles the relevant MSc/MSc (Tech) admissions at participating institutions; it is not the same application as JAM admission to the 23 IITs.

Keep degree-completion proof, semester marksheets, category documents and the hall ticket ready. A rank cannot override a missing subject requirement or an unfinished qualifying degree.

Why Might Your Calculated Score Differ?

• You compared against a provisional key rather than the final accepted answers.
• The question sequence in your response sheet was matched incorrectly to the master paper.
• An MSQ with an incomplete set of correct options was counted for partial marks.
• Wrong MSQs or NATs were given a negative penalty even though only MCQs have one.
• The 1/3 and 2/3 penalties were rounded after every question instead of at the end.

Recheck the paper code and question content before raising a result query. If a discrepancy remains, describe the specific question or candidate-detail issue to the JAM office and retain the supporting files. A general request to increase marks is different from a documented mismatch.

Use the official result as the admission record. A self-calculated raw score is useful for checking your work, but it is not a scorecard or an official rank.
