The allocation of seats following the IIT JAM Examination is determined by the IIT JAM Reservation policy, which designates seats in various colleges. Reserved category candidates have the opportunity to avail the benefits of the IIT JAM Reservation criteria during the counseling process.

To access reserved category benefits, candidates must furnish their category certificates during the application process. The final allocation of reserved seats is determined based on this information. For PwD applicants with a minimum 40% physical impairment, relevant medical certificates are required. Check: How to Apply for IIT JAM 2026?

IIT JAM, which stands for the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Admission Test, is a nationwide entrance examination organized by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It facilitates admission into various master's, PhD, and Dual Degree programs across diverse disciplines, including Biotechnology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, and more.

IIT JAM Reservation Guidelines 2026

To ensure compliance with the IIT JAM Reservation Guidelines for admission, candidates must adhere to the following requirements:

The original certificate should be presented during the counseling and admission stages. It's important to note that there is no waiver of application fees for OBC-NCL candidates.

IIT JAM Assistance to PwD Candidates

Candidates with disabilities (PwD) are permitted to use assistive devices like Braille Slates, Hearing Aids, Abacus, Magnifiers, Wheelchairs, etc., during the IIT JAM examination. However, the coordinating body of IIT JAM does not provide these devices, and candidates must arrange them on their own for use at the test center. PwD candidates are also granted a compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of the examination.

Blind, partially blind, low vision, or deaf candidates may request a Scribe (reader) if needed. When providing a Scribe, the following instructions must be followed:

  • The Scribe cannot interpret, emphasize, or translate test content for the candidates.
  • The Scribe's assistance is limited to reading instructions and the test content displayed on the computer screen, as well as assisting with mouse clicks if the candidate is unable to do so.
  • The Scribe can be provided by IIT JAM 2026 or arranged by the candidate themselves.
  • Both the candidate and their Scribe are required to sign a declaration form acknowledging their presence during the exam.
  • The Scribe should not be a candidate appearing for JAM 2026.

For candidates seeking admission based on IIT JAM Reservation criteria, the following documents must be submitted during the admission and counseling process:

  • Caste certificate for SC/ST candidates.
  • Attested certificate for SC/ST category candidates.
  • Disability Certificate in the prescribed format.
  • OBC NCL Certificate in the specified format.
