BIT Mesra Admission Dates 2026

BIT Mesra uses different national-level entrance exams for different courses. B.Tech seats are filled through JEE Main scores followed by JoSAA and CSAB counselling. The 2026-27 B.Tech counselling rounds have ended, while the next cycle is expected to begin through JEE Main registration for the 2027-28 batch.

BIT Mesra Courses and Fees

BIT Mesra offers more than 60 programmes in engineering, pharmacy, architecture, management, sciences, hotel management, and urban planning. For undergraduate courses, the total fee ranges from INR 3.77 Lakhs for BHM to INR 21.91 Lakhs for B.Arch. The fees below are for the general category quota.

CSE and AI/ML are among the most sought-after B.Tech branches. At the postgraduate level, BIT Mesra also offers Space Engineering and Rocketry as an M.Tech specialisation. BHM and BHMCT are 4-year hospitality programmes with a total fee of INR 3.77 Lakhs.

BIT Mesra Admission Process

Admission at BIT Mesra depends on the course. Engineering, architecture, management, pharmacy, science, computer applications, and research programmes use different entrance tests and selection steps.

B.Tech Admission

B.Tech admission is based only on JEE Main rank through JoSAA and CSAB counselling. BIT Mesra does not hold a separate application round or interview for B.Tech seats.

• Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, minimum 75% aggregate (65% for SC/ST), and a valid JEE Main score.
• Selection: Students register for JoSAA, add branch preferences, and receive seat allotment according to JEE Main All India Rank. CSAB holds extra rounds for vacant seats.
• Process stages: JEE Main registration and exam, JoSAA counselling registration, choice filling, seat allotment, document verification, fee payment, and reporting.

For the General category, CSE and ECE at BIT Mesra usually close near 30,000 to 50,000 AIR in JEE Main. Branches with lower demand, such as Food Engineering and Industrial Production, may go up to 80,000 to 1,20,000 AIR. Cutoffs change every year based on the applicant pool.

B.Arch Admission

B.Arch follows the counselling route used for B.Tech. Students need 10+2 with Mathematics, at least 50% aggregate, and a valid NATA or JEE Paper 2 score. The Architecture programme holds #22 rank in NIRF Architecture 2025.

MBA and Integrated MBA

• Eligibility: Graduation in any discipline with at least 50% marks. For Integrated MBA, students need 10+2 with 50%.
• Exams accepted: CAT, MAT, XAT, and CMAT.
• Selection: BIT Mesra shortlists students using written test scores, followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

M.Tech and Other Postgraduate Programmes

• M.Tech: B.Tech/BE with minimum 55% aggregate and a valid GATE score. Shortlisted students attend an interview.
• M.Pharm: B.Pharm with 55% and a GPAT score.
• MCA: Graduation with Mathematics as a subject and a valid CUET PG or NIMCET score.
• M.Sc: BSc in the relevant science discipline, along with CUET PG or BIT Mesra entrance test.
• Ph.D: PG degree in the relevant discipline with 55%, along with GATE/UGC-NET or BIT Mesra research entrance test.

BIT Mesra Placements

BIT Mesra recorded its strongest placement result in the 2025 placement season. Rubrik offered the highest package of INR 1.45 CPA to a CSE student. The institute-wide average CTC was INR 11.77 LPA, and the CSE mean CTC stood at INR 19 LPA. More than 250 companies took part and made over 1,080 offers.

Technology firms make up a large part of the recruiter list. Confirmed recruiters include Microsoft, Adobe, PayPal, Deloitte, KPMG, Accenture, L&T, Cipla, Nestle, American Express, Axis Bank, Airtel, CRED, and BookMyShow. Core-sector companies also hire students from Mechanical, Civil, and Chemical Engineering for manufacturing, infrastructure, and oil and gas roles.

CSE and ECE receive the strongest placement outcomes at BIT Mesra. Students in other branches may see average packages in the INR 6 to 8 LPA range. The training and placement cell conducts pre-placement training, coding bootcamps, and mock interviews from the third semester onward.

BIT Mesra Rankings

BIT Mesra appears in several Indian ranking lists. Its Architecture ranking is especially strong, with Outlook placing it at #1 in 2026 among architecture schools. In Engineering, the institute is placed within the top 60 by NIRF.

BIT Mesra does not participate in international rankings such as QS World Rankings or Times Higher Education. Its NIRF Architecture and Pharmacy ranks place it among the top 30 institutions in India in those fields.

BIT Mesra Scholarships

BIT Mesra supports students through merit-based and need-based scholarship schemes. The main institutional scholarship is the GP Birla Scholarship, which is awarded for strong academic performance. The BIT Financial Assistantship supports students from economically weaker backgrounds who also meet the required academic cut-off.

GATE-sponsored M.Tech students can also receive support through the M.Tech Promotion Scheme funded by AICTE. Ph.D scholars who qualify UGC-JRF or CSIR-JRF receive monthly fellowship support as per national scholarship rules.

BIT Mesra Campus and Infrastructure

BIT Mesra has its main campus in Mesra, Ranchi, Jharkhand. The campus spreads across 780 acres and is fully residential. About 5,400 students live on campus, which has 11 dedicated boys’ hostels and 3 girls’ hostels. Faculty and staff housing is also available within the campus area.

The institute has more than 18 academic departments, including the Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry. Students use the Central Library, digital journal databases, research laboratories, computing centres, and specialised facilities for pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology research. The campus also includes a training and placement cell, student activity centre, sports grounds, and medical facilities.

Apart from the Ranchi campus, BIT Mesra runs off-campus extension centres in Patna, Jaipur, Noida, Kolkata, and Lalpur (Ranchi). These centres offer selected UG and PG programmes in management, computer science, and electronics.

BIT Mesra vs NIT Jamshedpur vs Thapar Institute

Students comparing B.Tech options often place BIT Mesra against NIT Jamshedpur and Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology. NIT Jamshedpur is a government-funded institute in Jharkhand with lower fees, while Thapar Institute is a private deemed university in Patiala with a higher NIRF Engineering rank.

NIT Jamshedpur is a lower-cost option for students in Jharkhand because it has government-funded tuition and a residential campus. Thapar Institute is ahead in NIRF Engineering rank and NAAC grade, but its fee is higher. BIT Mesra stands between the two in fee and ranking, while offering a broader course mix that includes Architecture and Pharmacy.
