
JEE Advanced Reservation Criteria 2025: IIT Kanpur has released the JEE Advanced Reservation 2025 in the official information brochure. The reservation criteria contains that category-wise percentage of reserved seats for GEN-EWS, SC, ST, OBC, and PwD category candidates. According to JoSAA, 17740 seats are offered in the 23 participating IITs for all categories. Seat Matrix 2025 for IITs have been released. We have added the B. Tech Seats in each IIT and the increase in seats compared to last year.

It is important to have in-depth knowledge of the reservation criteria to claim its benefits in terms of application fees, cut-off marks, tuition fees, etc. Candidates must submit valid proof of JEE Advanced reservation eligibility to claim IIT seat reservations.
You cannot make changes in the category under any circumstances, once submitted in IIT records. If it is discovered that you have used a false document or misinformation to acquire the benefits of reservation in IIT then you will not be allowed to be a part of the admission process.

According to the rules of the Government of India, Indian Nationals belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL, GEN-EWS and PwD categories can seek admission under the seats reserved for them. However, foreign nationals cannot avail any of these reservation categories. The reservation of seats in IITs, for every category are as follows:

The reservation depends on the verification of documents submitted by the candidate. If a candidate uses a false/fake/incorrect document or has input false information, to get the benefit of reservation, he/she will be barred from all admission processes. Moreover, if the admission was already given, then it will be cancelled.
If you are from the general category and your family income is less than 8 lakhs annually then you will be considered under the EWS for the benefit of reservation. Authorities will assess the Income and Asset Certificate presented by you.
In this category, people with 40% or more disabilities are given higher priority irrespective of whether it’s locomotive, visual, or severely dyslexic. Preference is also given to Leprosy-cured candidates who are otherwise fit enough to take up the course. 5% of the seats are reserved for PWD (Persons with a disability) under each category mentioned below:
The following Report is required to be submitted by Dyslexic candidates:
A scribe is a substitute who writes the examination for a physically or mentally disabled person due to which he/she is restrained from writing the examination. In this process, the scribe reads out the question and writes/marks the answer in the OMR sheet after the candidate pronounces the final answer. For IIT JEE Advanced, a class 11 student from the Science stream having Mathematics as one of the subjects is taken to act as a scribe.
Candidates referred to as Defence Service (DS) candidates are the children whose fathers acted as paramilitary personnel and got killed or permanently disabled in action during war or peacetime operations.
If you are studying abroad or have studied at 10+2 level or equivalent when you registered for JEE Advanced 2024, you will be treated as a foreign national.
At the time of registering for JEE Advanced, their seats will be supernumerary. These candidates are outside the scope of reservation of seats under the GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD categories as specified. These candidates are also required to write JEE Main 2024 and qualify for JEE Advanced 2024 under the OPEN category.
Ques. Is there any special reservation for boys as similar to girls?
Ans. No, there is no reservation for boys as it is for girls. The reservations for girls are mainly to improve the gender balance within the undergraduate programs.
Ques. Is there any provision to change the category in JEE Advanced 2024?
Ans. No, once selected, you will not be allowed to change your category under any circumstances. Ensure that you select your category and have the supporting documents to verify it.
Ques. Is there any reservation quota for students applying from Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh?
Ans. JEE Advanced 2024 Reservation has not been released yet. But according to the previous year data, Seats allotted to foreign candidates are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of the total number of seats in every course.
Ques. How many seats are reserved for PwD category candidates?
Ans. 5% of seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the PwD category within each of the categories i.e. Open, OBC-NCL,GEN-EWS, SC, and ST. There is a horizontal reservation available for PwD candidates.
Ques. How many seats are reserved for applicants belonging to the defence category?
Ans. 2 Seats are reserved for them which will be allocated based on the common merit list released soon after JEE Advanced 2024 results are declared.
Ques. Is there a sports quota at IITs?
Ans. No, there isn’t any sports quota in IIT.
Ques. How many seats are allotted to candidates belonging to Defense Services?
Ans. 2 seats are available for DS candidates as preferential allotment in each Institute.

Yes, the JEE Main question paper for all shifts is different in order to prevent the leaking of questions. However, the authorities try to maintain the difficulty level across the slots.
JEE Main question paper will be available in online mode after exam concludes on the official website. Moreover, the exam will also be conducted in online mode.
