IIT Mandi Admission Dates 2027

The 2027-28 B.Tech admission cycle is expected to use JEE Advanced scores, while JoSAA will manage centralised choice filling and seat allocation. The schedule below is tentative.

Each postgraduate programme follows its own admission timetable. GATE scores are used for M.Tech, and offers are released after March each year. JAM applications for M.Sc generally open in January, with results issued in March. CAT scores are considered for MBA in Data Science and AI and Integrated MBA admissions, while CAT 2026 is scheduled for November 2026.

IIT Mandi Courses and Fees

Students can choose from 15 B.Tech specialisations, integrated and dual-degree courses, postgraduate programmes and research degrees. The General Category fees shown below cover the full programme duration.

Some options at IIT Mandi are less commonly available at older IITs. These include B.Tech in Quantum Science and Engineering, B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering and Data Analytics, and MA in Knowledge Systems and Practice. Students can also enter the five-year Integrated MBA after Class 12 to study management together with data analytics.

IIT Mandi Admission Process

Admission requirements depend on the programme. IIT Mandi uses national entrance examinations for most courses, followed by counselling, tests or interviews where applicable.

B.Tech and BS Admission

Applicants must pass Class 12 from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. They need at least 75% aggregate, reduced to 65% for SC, ST and PwD applicants, as well as a valid JEE Advanced rank. JoSAA conducts the centralised counselling process.

• Step 1: Qualify in JEE Main and become eligible to take JEE Advanced.
• Step 2: Take JEE Advanced and obtain a valid rank.
• Step 3: Complete JoSAA registration and enter the preferred institutes and programmes.
• Step 4: Participate in the six JoSAA allocation rounds, then finish document checks and pay the institute fee after receiving a seat.

For General Category admission, B.Tech CSE usually closes between JEE Advanced ranks 3,500 and 5,000. The usual closing range for B.Tech Quantum Science and Engineering and B.Tech Bioengineering is 6,000 to 9,000, allowing a wider group of JEE Advanced qualifiers to compete for these courses.

Integrated MBA Admission

Students who have passed Class 12 with Mathematics may apply for this five-year course. Selection considers either JEE Main performance or IIT Mandi's institutional entrance test. Applicants must then complete a written aptitude test and an on-campus personal interview.

M.Tech Admission

A B.Tech or BE degree with at least 60% aggregate is required, while SC and ST applicants need 55%. Applicants must also hold a valid GATE score in the relevant subject. Research-mode M.Tech selection may include a written examination and interview. Industry-sponsored applicants can seek admission without GATE under the sponsored category, subject to MHRD guidelines.

M.Sc Admission

Entry to M.Sc Applied Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics is based on a valid JAM score. Applicants need a relevant B.Sc degree with Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics as the core subject. JAM registration begins in September each year, and M.Sc admission offers are generally sent after March.

MBA (Data Science and AI) Admission

Graduates need at least 60% aggregate and a valid CAT score. For General Category applicants, the usual CAT cutoff range is 85 to 90 percentile. Shortlisted students take a written ability test and attend a personal interview on campus.

Ph.D Admission

Ph.D students are admitted twice a year, in January and July, across all schools. Applicants need an M.Tech, M.Sc or MA degree with at least 60% aggregate. They must also have a valid GATE, UGC NET or CSIR NET score, or qualify through the institute's written test and interview. Full-time Ph.D scholars can receive research fellowships according to MHRD norms.

IIT Mandi Placements

During IIT Mandi placements 2024-25, Zomato made the highest offer of INR 52 LPA to students from CSE, Data Science and AI, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The 2025 B.Tech batch recorded an overall average of INR 21.64 LPA, a median of INR 17 LPA and a placement rate of 95.04%. Campus recruitment involved 215 companies.

Amazon, Microsoft, Infosys, TCS, HCL, IBM, ICICI Bank and Zomato are among the leading recruiters. Most offers come from technology, finance and core engineering. CSE and Data Science and AI students receive the highest packages. Graduates of Engineering Physics, Civil Engineering and Bioengineering also enter research, public sector roles and postgraduate study in addition to taking campus offers.

Career paths outside formal campus hiring include off-campus jobs and government posts. Some students prepare for GATE and M.Tech, UPSC examinations, or Ph.D fellowships at IISc and other leading institutions. The reported 95.04% placement rate counts only students who took part in the official campus placement process.

IIT Mandi Rankings

The institute's 2025 NIRF results place it within India's leading engineering institutions. These rankings consider areas such as research, faculty credentials and placement performance.

The NIRF Engineering Ranking 2025 places IIT Mandi among India's top 30 engineering institutions. Since it is an Institute of National Importance, it functions under the Ministry of Education framework and does not require separate NAAC or AICTE approval. Research in quantum science, artificial intelligence, climate studies and bioengineering has supported its improving position in national rankings.

IIT Mandi Campus and Infrastructure

IIT Mandi's permanent campus lies on the left bank of the Uhl River in Kamand Valley, Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. It is about 14 km from Mandi city. Forests and river gorges surround the hill campus.

The institute's research facilities include the Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Applications Centre, known as IKSMHA; Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, or CAIR; Advance Material Research Centre, or AMRC; Center for Quantum Science and Technologies, or CQST; and Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Management, or C3DAR. IIT Mandi iHub operates as a technology innovation hub with support from the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, or NM-ICPS.

All students can use residential hostels and normally remain on campus throughout the academic year because of its remote setting. A health centre, sports facilities and spaces for student clubs are available within the campus. Academic, admission and administrative work is handled through the Samarth digital portal.

IIT Mandi vs IIT Ropar vs IIT Jodhpur

IIT Ropar and IIT Jodhpur are two newer IITs often considered alongside IIT Mandi during JoSAA choice filling. All three can attract applicants within a similar JEE Advanced rank range.

Among these institutes, IIT Mandi has the best NIRF Engineering rank for 2025. Its work in quantum science, artificial intelligence and climate change gives it a different research profile. IIT Jodhpur has a slightly better placement record for CSE, while IIT Ropar offers an older engineering base in Punjab and is closer to the Delhi-NCR industrial region.
