CSAB Counselling will commence just after the completion of JoSAA Counselling. CSAB Counselling is for admission to various undergraduate degree programs in engineering, technology, and architecture based on JEE Main rank.

  • Central Seat Allocation Board will conduct the CSAB Counselling in mid July 2026.

  • The significance of CSAB Counselling is to fill the vacant seats at NITs/IIITs/GFTIs for candidates who do not qualify in the JoSSA Counselling.

Who cannot apply for CSAB Counselling 2026?

CSAB Counselling is not open to all. As per the updates, a certain guideline is being followed by CSAB, which states who cannot apply for the CSAB Counselling process:

  • Candidates who have been allotted and accepted a seat through JoSAA are not eligible for CSAB counselling.
  • Candidates who failed to qualify for JEE Main are not eligible, as CSAB counselling is based on JEE Main rank.
  • Those candidates who do not meet the maximum marks/ subject combination requirements in Class 12.

Types of CSAB Counselling 2026

CSAB Counselling is normally conducted in three different types. The seat allocation of various types is described below:

CSAB Special Round

CSAB Counselling generally conduct three special rounds.

  • It normally takes place when seats remain vacant after JoSAA Counselling at institutes accepting JEE Main rank.
  • Candidates are required to make a fresh registration; that is, earlier JoSAA registration is not accepted.

CSAB NEUT Round

CSAB Counselling for CSAB NEUT is only for candidates who belong to the North Eastern states and Union Territories like Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, etc.

  • They must have a minimum 12th class eligibility and a valid JEE Main 2026 rank.
  • The main focus is to allocate seats under the Government of India scheme for technical courses for states/UTs lacking such facilities.

CSAB Supernumerary Round

It offers admission to supernumerary seats beyond the regular quota of candidates.

  • For students from Union Territories that don't have their own NIT, for example, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
