VITEEE 2027 Chemistry syllabus has not been released. The 2026 syllabus contains 7 units; these are the starting point for preparation, with their topics listed below.

Chemistry had 35 questions worth up to 140 marks in the 2026 paper. The marking was +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong answer. The same subject section applies to MPCEA and BPCEA.

VITEEE Chemistry Topics: 2026 Syllabus

Physical Chemistry	Atomic models, electron configuration, quantum numbers and orbital shapes; Pauli, Hund and Aufbau rules; atomic spectra, hydrogen series, de Broglie theory, uncertainty principle and the Schrodinger equation without derivation. Bonding and s/p/d hybridisation; thermodynamic laws, spontaneity, entropy and Gibbs energy; equilibrium, mass action and Le Chatelier's principle. Reaction rates, order, molecularity, zero/first/pseudo-first-order reactions, half-life, Arrhenius equation and collision theory. Solutions include concentration units, colligative properties, Raoult's law, ideal/non-ideal behaviour and vapour-pressure plots.
Inorganic and Material Chemistry	Alkali and alkaline-earth metals; phosphorus compounds, oxides, hydrogen halides, interhalogens and xenon fluorides. Transition-element configurations, oxidation states and colours; extraction of copper, silver, gold and zinc; copper sulphate, silver nitrate and potassium dichromate. Lanthanides, contraction and comparison with actinides. Coordination nomenclature, geometrical isomerism, Werner and valence-bond theories, uses, haemoglobin and chlorophyll. Solid-state topics include lattices, unit cells, crystal systems, packing, defects, X-ray diffraction, electrical behaviour and amorphous solids; surface topics include adsorption and catalysis.
Analytical Chemistry	Redox reactions; metallic/electrolytic conductance, Faraday's laws, strong electrolytes, specific/equivalent/molar conductance, dilution and Kohlrausch's law. Ionic product of water, pH and buffers; electrodes, cell construction, standard potentials, Nernst equation, Gibbs energy and cell emf. Dry cells, electrolytic/galvanic cells, lead accumulator, fuel cells, corrosion and prevention. Environmental chemistry covers air, water and soil pollution.
Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry	Carbon bonding and hybridisation; functional groups, homologous series and IUPAC names; homolytic/heterolytic cleavage, carbocations, carbanions, radicals, electrophiles and nucleophiles. Inductive/electromeric effects, resonance and hyperconjugation; substitution, addition, elimination and rearrangement. Structural, geometrical and optical isomerism, chirality, R/S and D/L notation; detection of alcoholic/phenolic hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl and amino groups.
Functionalised Organic Compounds	Preparation, properties and uses of alcohols, phenols, benzyl alcohol, glycol, trihydric alcohols, aliphatic ethers and anisole. Aldehydes and ketones include benzaldehyde, acetone, acetophenone and benzophenone; Clemmensen and Wolff-Kishner reductions, Cannizzaro, Claisen-Schmidt, benzoin and aldol reactions; Grignard reagents. Carboxylic acids include formic, lactic, oxalic, succinic, benzoic and salicylic acids; derivatives include acetyl chloride, acetamide, acetic anhydride and esters such as methyl acetate.
Organic Nitrogen Compounds	Aliphatic/aromatic nitro compounds and their differences; preparation and properties of primary, secondary and tertiary amines; benzylamine and aniline; comparison of aliphatic and aromatic amines. Aliphatic nitriles and benzene diazonium chloride, including preparation, properties and uses.
Biomolecules and Polymers	Carbohydrates, sugars, glucose, fructose, sucrose linkages, invert sugar, oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. Amino acids, peptide bonds, protein structure levels, denaturation and enzymes; lipids, fats, oils and waxes; DNA/RNA composition. Natural/synthetic polymers, addition/condensation polymerisation and copolymerisation; polythene, nylon, polyesters, Bakelite and rubber; biodegradable/non-biodegradable polymers.

The 28% share is calculated from 35/125. VIT does not assign a fixed question count to each chapter. Chapter-wise weightage must therefore be separated from the confirmed subject allocation.

The 150 minutes apply to the whole test, not to this subject alone. The paper pattern also includes the remaining science section, English and Aptitude.

How to Practise Chemistry

Biomolecules and materials	Practise structure identification, linkage and classification questions alongside reactions. A reaction-only notebook leaves a substantial part of these units untouched.

First-order kinetics

After two half-lives, the amount of a first-order reactant is (1/2)² = 1/4 of its initial amount. The reacted fraction is therefore 3/4, or 75%. Distinguish the amount remaining from the amount consumed.

This is an original worked example, not a past VITEEE question. The previous-year question-paper collection can be used for longer practice; keep the year and marking scheme of each paper separate.

Fitting This Subject Into the Full Paper

Chemistry remains compulsory in both routes. MPCEA uses Mathematics, while BPCEA uses Biology; the other three sections are the same.

The English and Aptitude syllabus accounts for 15 questions in total. Those sections require separate language and reasoning practice rather than another round of science revision.

Chemistry Preparation

Is electrochemistry part of VITEEE Chemistry?+

Yes. It appears under Analytical Chemistry, together with conductance, pH, buffers, electrode potentials, the Nernst equation, cells and corrosion.

Does VIT assign a fixed share to Physical, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry?+

The 2026 pattern assigns 35 questions to Chemistry as a whole. The syllabus does not allocate a fixed number to each of those areas or to each chapter.

Are polymers and surface chemistry still included?+

Yes. Polymers have coverage within Biomolecules and Polymers; adsorption and catalysis are listed under Inorganic and Material Chemistry.

Is a reaction name enough to prepare Organic Chemistry?+

No. Questions can require the starting compound, reagent, product or distinction between two functional groups. For example, revise when a carbonyl compound undergoes aldol or Cannizzaro chemistry, not just the names of those reactions.

Should I wait for the 2027 syllabus before starting?+

You can begin with the published 2026 Chemistry topics. Treat that list as the preparation reference, not a confirmed 2027 notification. Keep the unit names in your notes so any later addition or deletion can be identified directly.
