Based on Reddit users, there are a few strategies candidates should use while appearing for VITEEE:

As VITEEE 2026 is the first exam to introduce negative marking into the VITEEE exam pattern, the approach to the VITEEE syllabus preparation strategy would definitely change with the inclusion of the negative marking system. Some of the changes that would be incorporated into the strategy are the following:
Accuracy Over Attempt Rate: Unlike the previous years, the strategy of attempting all 125 questions randomly would now result in a decrease in the accuracy of the attempts.
Aptitude and English are Safer: This section of 15 questions (10 aptitude and 5 English) would now carry a total of 60 marks and would definitely be a safer bet than the other sections.
Chapter Selection from Syllabus Becomes Critical: Unlike the previous years, the selection of chapters would now become extremely critical with the inclusion of the negative marking system.

Real student experiences and preparation insights from Reddit and Quora provide a practical perspective on tackling the VITEEE syllabus.
Reddit User (r/viteee) on Syllabus Strategy:
“It’s JEE syllabus only – so focusing on JEE prep can be beneficial. The level is much less than JEE Mains. It’s more about speed and accuracy. Try for JEE Mains and VITEEE will be easy after that. Also do NOT ignore Aptitude and English – these are easy marks most people leave on the table.”
Reddit User on NCERT vs Reference Books:
“Do NCERT same to same – seriously. I did the mock exams provided by my JEE coaching and they were easy. I got good percentile scores in all of them. The real trick is finishing the syllabus and solving previous year papers (PYQs). Prepare Aptitude from YouTube; it was easy only.”
Quora User on D/F Block vs P Block (Chemistry):
“Most candidates prepare P Block deeply because of JEE Mains, but VITEEE trends favour D and F Block elements over P Block. Coordinate Compounds should also be prioritised alongside D Block preparation. This is a direct marks loss most students make.”
Ques. Does VITEEE cover only the class 12 syllabus?
Ans. No, VITEEE does not only cover the class 12 syllabus. Candidates appearing for VITEEE should prepare from both class 11 and class 12. Moreover, NCERT books are the best recommendation for VITEEE as they majorly cover the VITEEE syllabus for 11 and 12.
Ques. Is VITEEE syllabus tougher than JEE Mains?
Ans. VITEEE and JEE Mains are conducted through CBT mode, where there are +4 marks for a correct answer and -1 marks for an incorrect one. There is a brief overview of VITEEE and JEE Mains so that students can understand the level of difficulty in VITEEE and JEE Mains:
| Particulars | VITEEE | JEE Mains |
|---|---|---|
| Time | 2 hours and 30 minutes | 3 hours |
| Mode | CBT | CBT |
| Total Marks | 500 | 300 |
| Difficulty Level and key area of focus | Moderate, mainly depends on application, practice and time management | Very hard, as it focuses on a deeper understanding of concepts |
Thus, VITEEE syllabus is moderate compared to the JEE Mains.
Ques. What are the high-weightage topics in VITEEE syllabus for PCM?
Ans. The high-weightage topics in VITEEE syllabus for PCM are mentioned below:
Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry
