CLAT 2027 merit lists will follow the examination on 6 December 2026. For equal UG scores, Legal Aptitude marks come first, followed by higher age and a computerised draw. PG ties use higher age and then a draw.

Your scorecard and an NLU allotment list answer different questions: one records individual performance; the other records a provisional seat against rank, preferences and reservation.

Two UG candidates with the same total can still have different merit positions because their Legal Aptitude scores differ. Age is considered only if that first comparison does not break the tie. PG applicants do not go through the UG subject-score comparison.

The 2027 admission cycle is for programmes beginning in 2027-28. Counselling is planned broadly for December 2026/January 2027. The NLU checks the qualifying result and the evidence for any reserved seat; a rank cannot replace those documents.

An applicant whose reservation claim does not match the documents loses that provisional category-based admission. The current instructions allow consideration in subsequent rounds without that reservation category. This is different from confirming admission simply because a name appears in a list.

2024 Reference: Final Marks, Percentile and Rank

A percentile is not a percentage of marks. The 2024 UG notice records one candidate at 100 percentile even though the highest score was 108/118. Rank then places candidates in order under the applicable rules.

The official aggregate result notice is not a complete named merit PDF. Do not read state-wise percentile counts as a list of individual names or admission offers.

2024 Reference: How Rank Became an NLU Allotment

Allotment used merit alongside the preferences submitted and the seats available for the relevant category. The same AIR can have different admission implications across universities because programme capacity and reservation conditions differ.

Read vertical and horizontal reservation fields together. A row marked General can still be allotted under a domicile or disability provision. It should not automatically be quoted as the all-India open-seat closing rank.

Merit and Reservation

Does an equal total mean an equal rank?+

Not necessarily. The UG and PG tie-break orders can separate equal total scores.

Is a counselling invitation an admission offer?+

No. It permits participation in the process; the seat decision and NLU verification are separate.

Can a General row include a horizontal reservation?+

Yes. Vertical and horizontal columns describe different parts of the allocation. A General candidate may receive a seat under a domicile, women or disability provision. Read the allocation marker and footnotes before quoting the rank as an all-India open cutoff. A category shown beside a candidate is not always the category under which that particular seat was allotted.

Can a previous-year rank be used in 2027 counselling?+

A historical rank helps compare past admissions, but it does not replace the rank for the 2027 admission cycle.
