CLAT UG 2027 covers English Language, Current Affairs including GK, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Techniques. Legal Reasoning and Current Affairs each carry roughly 25% of the paper; English and Logical Reasoning about 20% each; Quantitative Techniques about 10%.

CLAT PG has a different syllabus based on undergraduate law subjects. Both papers contain 120 multiple-choice questions, but the knowledge and reading tasks are not the same.

UG is an aptitude-based entrance paper for integrated law programmes such as BA LLB. It does not require a school-level law qualification. The syllabus is organised around skills and subject areas rather than a numbered textbook chapter list.

The question ranges are approximate. They should not be read as fixed marks for chapters such as Contract, International Affairs or Mensuration. The total remains 120 questions.

English Language Syllabus

English uses passages of about 450 words from contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction. The expected reading level is broadly that of a Class 12 student. Questions focus on what the passage says and what can reasonably be concluded from it.

A dictionary meaning alone may not answer a vocabulary question. Read the sentence around the word and test whether the option preserves the passage's meaning. Similarly, an inference should be supported by the text; a statement can be true in the real world and still not follow from the passage.

Current Affairs and General Knowledge Syllabus

This section uses passages of up to 450 words drawn from news, journalism and other non-fiction. It tests awareness of events and their context, not only recall of a headline.

The Consortium does not set a fixed current-affairs month range. A six-month or twelve-month study list is a preparation choice, not the official boundary. News passages can connect a recent event to an older agreement, institution or historical development.

Legal information may appear in a Current Affairs passage, but that does not turn the section into a law-degree test. The syllabus does not demand additional law knowledge beyond the passage for such legal questions.

Legal Reasoning Syllabus

Legal Reasoning uses passages of around 450 words based on legal situations, public policy or moral questions. You do not need prior knowledge of law to attempt this UG section.

Apply the principle	Use it on the facts in the question
Change the conditions	Work out whether a change in the rule or relevant facts changes the result

Separate the rule from the example used to explain it. If the question changes a condition, apply the changed condition rather than repeating the earlier answer. General awareness of current legal and moral issues can help comprehension, but the passage supplies the principle you are being asked to use.

The official scope does not assign fixed chapter marks to Contract, Torts or Constitutional Law in UG. These areas can provide settings for passages; their names should not be converted into a guaranteed chapter-wise distribution.

Logical Reasoning Syllabus

Logical Reasoning uses passages of about 450 words in the published 2027 syllabus. The task is to examine how an argument works: what is claimed, what supports it and what would change its strength.

This overlaps with English reading, but the task differs. An English question may ask what a passage means; a Logical Reasoning question may ask whether its conclusion is justified. Preparation should include both rather than treating any reading-comprehension exercise as a complete substitute for reasoning practice.

Quantitative Techniques Syllabus

Quantitative Techniques presents short sets of facts or numerical information. You must extract the relevant numbers, infer missing information and apply mathematical operations. The level is Class 10, not advanced Class 12 Mathematics.

A short ratio example

Suppose a set says that 240 students are divided between two groups in the ratio 3:5. There are eight ratio parts, so one part is 240 / 8 = 30. The groups contain 90 and 150 students. If asked for the first group's share of all students, the answer is 90 / 240 = 37.5%, not 90 / 150. The arithmetic is short; identifying the correct comparison is the important step.

This is an illustrative practice example, not a previous CLAT question. The official syllabus gives subject scope, not a promised number of ratio or mensuration questions.

CLAT PG Syllabus

The LLM entrance paper draws on mandatory undergraduate law subjects. Constitutional Law is one part of the syllabus, not the whole PG paper.

These groupings are for organising revision; the official list does not give separate marks to each group. It also does not specify a fixed Constitutional Law versus other-law split.

Questions follow extracts from court decisions, statutes or regulations. You need to understand the issue and viewpoints in the extract, recognise related legal issues and facts, summarise it and apply your legal knowledge. Unlike UG Legal Reasoning, PG expects the background gained from an undergraduate law programme.

How to Use the Syllabus for Preparation

Turn each skill into a practice task. For English, record why an inference is supported. For Legal Reasoning, write the principle before applying it. For Logical Reasoning, mark the premise and conclusion. For Quantitative Techniques, record the unit and denominator before calculating.

Use CLAT previous-year papers to see these skills inside complete passages. The 2024 CLAT paper is a dated practice source, not a chapter prediction for 2027. Keep the year and booklet key with your review notes.

For Current Affairs, build notes around issues and their background, not isolated one-line facts alone. For PG, revise the legal issue and reasoning in a case together with the relevant law. A list of case names without the principles will not cover the application skills described in the syllabus.

CLAT Syllabus 2027 FAQs

UG Scope and Weightage

Has Current Affairs been removed from CLAT 2027?+

No. The published UG syllabus includes Current Affairs, including General Knowledge, and the question format assigns it roughly 25% of the paper. Prepare for the current published syllabus, not a proposal or a prediction about a later cycle.

Does CLAT have official chapter-wise weightage?+

The Consortium gives approximate subject shares and question ranges. It does not assign a fixed number of marks to each maths chapter, legal topic or news area. A distribution counted from one past paper describes that paper, not a guaranteed 2027 pattern.

Do I need Class 12 Mathematics for Quantitative Techniques?+

The syllabus describes Class 10-level operations and data interpretation. Advanced Class 12 Mathematics is not the stated level. Practise extracting data and selecting the right calculation, not just memorising formulas.

Is learning legal definitions enough for Legal Reasoning?+

No. The section asks you to infer and apply principles and to handle changed conditions. Knowing a term can help reading, but an answer must still follow the passage and the question's facts.

Is the Current Affairs syllabus limited to the previous six months?+

No specific timeframe is prescribed. Contemporary issues, international affairs, arts and culture, and history with continuing relevance can all be involved. A six-month list is a revision plan, not an official exclusion of older context.

Reading Skills and PG

Are English and Logical Reasoning the same because both use passages?+

No. English focuses on comprehension, meaning, summary and viewpoints. Logical Reasoning examines premises, conclusions and how evidence supports an argument. Reading ability helps both, but the question asks you to do different work.

Does the official five-to-seven-minute English description set a timer per passage?+

No. The syllabus uses that description to indicate reading level. It does not create a separate passage timer. Your practice timing must fit reading and all questions into the full paper duration.

Is CLAT PG only Constitutional Law?+

No. It includes Constitutional Law and 12 other named areas, such as Jurisprudence, Contract, Torts, Criminal Law and Public International Law. The official list does not allocate a fixed share to each subject.

Can I prepare for PG using the five UG sections?+

That would miss the PG syllabus. PG is based on undergraduate law and primary legal extracts. It requires legal knowledge in addition to reading comprehension; UG aptitude material is not a replacement.
