CLAT 2023 Question Paper PDF

The 52-page master booklet is marked M. Its contents page gives the section ranges, and the cover specifies a two-hour test with one mark for a correct response and a quarter-mark deduction for a wrong response. The separate key uses master-booklet numbering.

The paper and key serve different purposes. Attempt the questions first, then open the key. The key identifies accepted options; it does not explain why a competing option is wrong.

CLAT 2023 Section-wise Questions

Legal Reasoning has 40 questions, followed by 35 in Current Affairs and General Knowledge. English and Logical Reasoning have 30 each; Quantitative Techniques has 15. These are the actual 2023 counts, not the current exam allocation.

A question number is useful only within its booklet. For example, question 144 belongs to the Quantitative Techniques block in the master paper. It should not be matched to question 144 from an unrelated arrangement of the paper.

The final master key marks question 144 as withdrawn. The other 149 questions remain in the scored set. Do not count the withdrawn question as correct, wrong or unanswered when calculating the final-key score.

For the retained questions, score = correct answers - (0.25 × wrong answers). An example with 100 correct, 30 wrong and 19 blank responses gives 92.5 marks across 149 retained questions. This is a scoring example, not an admission cutoff.

If an older solution file assigns an option to question 144, that explanation cannot override the withdrawal. Keep an attempt score based on the original paper separate from the result calculated with the final key.

How to Practise with the 2023 Paper

The 2023 paper is useful for practising long reading workloads: 150 questions share the same two hours that the current 120-question test allows. That gives 48 seconds per printed question on average, compared with 60 seconds in the current format. Neither figure is a compulsory question-by-question time limit.

Use the whole paper to test sustained reading, or take complete passage groups for section practice. Do not cut a passage group in half simply to make a 120-question mock. Questions sharing an extract also share its reading cost.

When reviewing Legal Reasoning, write down the rule used and the fact that determines the answer. For Logical Reasoning, identify the conclusion before deciding whether an option strengthens, weakens or follows from it. This separates a reasoning error from a wrong answer caused by hurried reading.

CLAT 2023 Paper vs the Current Format

The 2023 paper has 30 more printed questions than CLAT 2027. Use a recent 120-question booklet as well before deciding how to divide your current exam time.

The CLAT previous-year paper archive includes other years for comparison. Choose the year and programme first; a postgraduate law paper is not an interchangeable UG practice test.
