CLAT Current Affairs, including General Knowledge, carries approximately 28–32 questions in 2027. News-based passages can ask about the event itself and its wider context. Learning isolated dates and names leaves gaps when a question connects an event to an institution or an earlier development.

There is no official six-month or one-year cutoff for this section. Build connected issue notes across the prescribed areas, then test recall without keeping the notes open.

Passages can run up to about 450 words and draw on news, journalism and other non-fiction. Questions may discuss legal information connected to the passage, but do not require additional legal knowledge beyond it.

The approximate share is 25% of the UG paper. The syllabus does not divide that share into fixed marks for sports, awards, international relations or any other coaching-list heading. A monthly compilation is an organisational aid, not an official boundary.

Turn a News Story Into an Issue Note

For an international agreement, connect the announcement to its participants, purpose, negotiating body and earlier framework. Keep signing, ratification and entry into force separate if the source distinguishes them. A question can change meaning when these stages are treated as identical.

For a court-related news story, distinguish a petition, an interim direction and a final decision. Record the institution and issue in plain language. Do not turn a short current-affairs note into a catalogue of legal provisions unrelated to the event.

When an issue develops again, update the existing note. A second entry with a new headline but no link to the first can make the timeline harder to recall.

What to Read and What to Verify

Use a manageable news source for daily discovery, but settle disputed dates, names and status with the issuing organisation. A headline can omit a condition or describe a proposal as though it has already taken effect.

Do not collect multiple versions of the same event merely to increase the size of your notes. Keep the facts that distinguish it from related events and the background needed to answer linked questions.

This is a suggested routine, not a fixed official timetable. If you remember a headline but cannot explain the institution involved, revise that background. If you confuse two dates, write the sequence and the action attached to each date.

Keep a separate list of errors that recur. Re-reading an entire month may feel thorough while leaving the same confusing pair of facts unresolved.

How to Answer a GK Passage

Read the question to see what it asks you to use. “According to the passage” restricts the answer to that text. A question about a related event may require background knowledge. Do not replace an explicit passage statement with a remembered fact about a different year.

Use the Current Affairs sections in CLAT previous-year papers to see how background knowledge connects to a passage. Old questions show question design; their news content is not a prediction of the next paper.

How to Use Older GK Papers in 2027 Preparation

The 2024 paper and 2025 paper can help you practise reading the question carefully and connecting an event to its background. Record the paper year beside your score. Remembering a previously seen answer should not be counted as fresh recall under exam conditions.

Do not discard history simply because it predates your monthly notes. The official scope includes historical events with continuing significance. At the same time, an unlimited list of disconnected historical facts is not a substitute for understanding why an older event matters to the issue being studied.

After a set, explain one link you missed: an institution’s mandate, the earlier agreement behind a summit, or the stage reached by a policy. That produces a specific revision task rather than the vague instruction to “study more GK”.

Months, Sources and Static GK

Are the last six months enough for CLAT GK?+

The Consortium does not prescribe a six-month boundary. Recent issues can depend on older institutions, agreements or historical events. A month-based plan can organise revision, but it should not exclude background needed to understand the prescribed topics.

Can every answer be found inside the GK passage?+

No. The syllabus includes awareness of current affairs and general knowledge. Some questions can depend on connected background. Read the wording carefully: a passage-bound question and a related factual question need different kinds of evidence.

Should I memorise every date in a newspaper?+

Focus on dates that identify or distinguish an event and its stage. For example, an announcement date and an implementation date answer different questions. A large list with no explanation of what happened on each date is difficult to use accurately.

Does static GK have a fixed percentage?+

No separate static-GK percentage is published. The official areas include history with continuing significance and other context linked to current affairs. There is no guaranteed division between current and static questions.

Do I need to study LLB subjects for this section?+

No. Legal information may appear in a GK passage, but the UG syllabus does not require additional law knowledge beyond that passage for those questions. This is different from the law-subject syllabus of CLAT PG.

Why does my score fall even after reading monthly notes?+

Review the wrong answers by cause: forgotten fact, confused institution, outdated status or passage misreading. Each needs a different repair. If the same institution is repeatedly confused with another, a short comparison is more useful than rereading every event from that month.
