CLAT 2027 Admission and Qualifying Results

The current FAQ gives a broad counselling period rather than dates for individual lists. It permits qualifying-examination candidates appearing in 2027, but the allotted university still needs proof that the qualification and minimum marks have been completed.

Category evidence must also support the claim made in the application. The programme, category and BPL fields cannot be changed after submission and payment. A reservation mismatch can cancel provisional admission, with later-round consideration allowed without that category.

NRI/NRI-sponsored seats are handled directly by the respective NLU, not allotted by the Consortium. Foreign nationals also approach the university directly rather than appearing for CLAT. These routes should not be treated as ordinary seats in the central lists.

How to Read a CLAT Seat-Allotment List

Do not quote the numerically largest rank in an entire NLU PDF as its open-category cutoff. That row may belong to a different reservation pool or may have vacated the seat. Similarly, a candidate carrying a category label can sometimes be admitted on open merit; the allocation marker explains which seat was used.

A list can include continuing candidates from earlier rounds. Compare the same programme, round and allocation scope before deciding whether a new row represents fresh admission or a candidate already retained in the programme.

Preferences and Registration: 2026 Process

In the 2026 process, eligible candidates received a counselling invitation in the CLAT account, supported by email and SMS. Registration required both preferences and payment. The window ran from 17 December 2025, 6 PM, to 27 December 2025, 10 PM.

Leaving an NLU off the list excluded it from that central allotment even if the candidate otherwise had a suitable rank. Put universities in the order you would genuinely choose them: float could upgrade to a higher entry, not move down to a lower preference.

Exam registration alone did not complete this step. A submitted preference list with an unsuccessful payment also did not establish successful counselling registration. These are completed-cycle rules, not an announced 2027 preference minimum.

Freeze, Float and Exit: 2026 Rules

Float was available only before the final round and where a higher preference remained possible. An upgrade replaced the earlier seat; it was not a second seat to hold alongside the first. In the fifth round, candidates chose freeze or exit.

A candidate allotted a seat who did not respond within that round’s window lost the seat and was removed from subsequent counselling lists. A candidate who had not yet received a seat could wait for the next round. Those are different situations and should not be treated as the same kind of non-response.

Choosing exit after freeze or float released the seat and forfeited that confirmation fee. Registration-fee refunds followed separate conditions.

CLAT 2026 Allotment Calendar

Rounds 4 and 5 filled vacancies after the April fee deadline. After the fifth central round, remaining vacancies could be handled by individual NLUs under their own rules.

CLAT Counselling Fees and Refunds: 2026 Reference

The registration fee and confirmation fee were not the entire university bill. Candidates who froze in rounds 1-3 had to pay the balance NLU fee by 24 April 2026, 5 PM; rounds 4-5 used 30 May 2026, 5 PM. The amount depended on the allotted university.

The confirmation fee was non-refundable on exit, non-payment of the NLU balance or ineligibility. After taking admission through freeze, withdrawal after 30 May 2026 also triggered the stated INR 5,000 registration-fee deduction and confirmation-fee forfeiture. Refunds went back to the original paying account.

These dates and amounts belong to the 2026 process. They should not be used as payment instructions for 2027.

Documents and University Verification

These are the document groups listed for 2026. The current 2027 instructions separately require the qualifying result and appropriate reservation evidence at admission. A university can also prescribe documents for its own local-student or other seat conditions.

The BA LLB route uses the school-leaving qualification, while LLM admission requires the law-degree qualification. Keep each programme’s evidence separate; a UG marksheet does not establish an LLM qualification.

After central rounds, an NLU may run its own vacancy process under its rules. A vacancy notice is a separate application opportunity, not an automatic extension of a missed central-counselling deadline.
