This year, NEET UG 2024 Result has been full of controversies. So much so that the issue was taken to the Supreme Court. After the hearing on June 13, NEET 2024 exam for 1563 candidates stands cancelled. NTA has informed the Court that NEET 2024 Re-Exam will be conducted on June 23, 2024. You can check the NEET Re-Exam Results by June 30, 2024. These dates are determined so that the NEET Counselling starts on July 6, 2024, uncompromised.

Based on reports, 1563 candidates were awarded unfair grace marks. These results stand canceled and withdrawn. Note that, appearing for the NEET 2024 re-exam is optional. The 1563 candidates can either sit for the exam or accept the ‘non-normalized marks’. For candidates who appear for the re-test, their re-exam marks will be the final NTA score.

NEET UG 2024 Controversy

NEET 2024 exam date was May 5, 2024. Initially, the NEET 2024 result was supposed to be out on June 14, 2024. However, NTA released it 10 days earlier, on June 4, 2024. This year, over 24 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam. The results have raised multiple questions about the exam and the conducting body.

  • NTA was also accused of awarding irregular grace marks and compensatory marks.
  • In NEET 2024 toppers list, 67 candidates scored the perfect NTA score of 720. Assumptions are that 6 toppers are from the same exam center in Haryana (based on the roll number).
  • Candidates also saw marks like 719 and 718 which are impossible because of the NEET marking scheme. Last year, only 2 candidates had scored the full 720 marks.
  • There were multiple allegations of time loss at certain exam centers, paper leaks, and other external factors that negatively impacted the exam.
  • NEET 2024 cutoff has been exceptionally high. This year, the NEET cutoff for UR/EWS has is 720 to 164, for OBC/SC/ST the cutoff is between 163 to 129, 163 to 146 for Gen/EWS-PwD, and from 145 to 129 for OBCSC/ST-PwD category candidates. Last year, the minimum cutoff marks were 720 to 137 for unreserved, 136 to 107 for OBC/SC/ST, 136 to 121 for unreserved PwD, 120 to 107 for OBC/SC PwD and 120 to 108 for ST-PwD candidates.

Do I have to sit for NEET 2024 Re-Exam?

NTA will conduct the NEET 2024 re-exam only for the 1563 candidates with grace marks. The exam will be conducted from 2 PM to 5.20 PM. Keep in mind that the NEET 2024 re-exam is optional. If you are among the 1563 candidates who were awarded the compensatory marks, you get the option to sit for the re-exam. You can choose not to sit for the re-exam. In that case, your NEET marks without the grace marks will be taken into consideration

You can expect the NEET 2024 result to be revised as well. The marks will be changed for 1563 candidates. They can either accept the raw marks without the grace marks or sit for the re-exam and get new marks. For the rest of the candidates, there might be no change in the raw score. But their ranks and cutoff marks may change. The revised NEET 2024 result is expected to be out by June 30 along with the re-test result.

How did NTA Calculate the NEET 2024 Grace Marks?

NTA received multiple concerns regarding time loss in some exam centers. To compensate for the loss of time, NTA awarded compensatory marks based on the number of ‘unattempted questions’

NTA created a Grievance Redressal Committee to verify all the complaints. They reviewed CCTV footage. Candidates were compensated for the time loss based on their answering speed and efficiency. The formula to calculate the grace marks was based on a Supreme Court verdict in 2018
