NEET 2026 Merit List Release Date

NEET 2026 Merit List vs NEET Cutoff

NEET merit list and NEET cutoff are two different parameters; however, both are important for NEET counselling 2026.

  • NEET merit list includes the ranking of the candidates who qualified the examination and is prepared based on the NEET 2026 marks.
  • NEET cutoff is the minimum marks required to qualify NEET and get admission to the courses offered after NEET.

NEET Merit List 2026: Tie Breaking Criteria

Students will gain admission to various UG courses, such as MBBS and BDS, at top medical colleges across the country through the NEET 2025 exam. If students obtain the same marks in the exam, then the tie-breaking formula will be applied. The following method will be used for tie-breaking:

  • Marks in Biology: The student securing higher marks in Biology will be given the top rank.
  • Marks in Chemistry: If the tie persists, the student securing higher marks in Chemistry will be given the top rank.
  • Incorrect Answers: Candidates with fewer attempted incorrect answers in all three subjects in the NEET 2024 exam will be ranked higher.
  • Age: If the tie persists, older students will be considered.

After the NEET merit list 2026 is released, counselling authorities will begin the choice filling process and seat allocation process.

  • Choice Filling: NEET choice filling allows candidates to choose colleges of their choice. This includes the choice of course and colleges available in the NEET seat matrix.
  • Seat Allocation: This includes the allocation of seats to eligible students. Candidates are allotted seats based on their rank in the NEET merit list, their categories, and availability of seats.

  • Provisional vs Final Merit List Discrepancy: Your rank in the final merit list of NEET and the provisional merit list can be different. It can shift due to document verification and elimination of ineligible students.
