The Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) and Centralised Counselling for M.Tech (CCMT) conducts the counselling for GATE 2026. COAP is used for admissions into IITs and CCMT is used for admission into 52 NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur and GFTIs. Each round will involve seat allocation, online reporting and fee payment. Candidates who have qualified GATE Cutoff 2026 are eligible to participate in the counseling.

Candidates can check the tentative GATE counselling schedule based on previous years' trend:

For candidates from North Eastern States & Union Territories (NEUT) or reserved categories, special rounds under CCMT and state-based counselling may be available. Top PSUs like ONGC, IOCL, and BHEL recruit candidates based on GATE scores. Each PSU has its own selection criteria and process

GATE Counselling 2026: Eligibility Criteria

The course eligibility depends on the combination of degree, streams and GATE exam. Special eligibility is required to become eligible for admission in some institutes. Note: Percentage conversion to CGPA or vice versa is not allowed.*

GATE Counselling 2026- COAP

COAP Counselling process is set to begin in April 2026, with several key events leading up to the final seat allotment. This includes the start of registration and choice filling, followed by mock seat allocations and five rounds of seat allotment.

It is important to note that the counselling dates may vary for candidates appearing in different sessions of the GATE 2026 .

Counselling Dates for Additional Rounds

  • Candidates may have to follow spot rounds either online or offline and it could be specific to the institutes.
  • Depending on the vacancy status and admission date, there could be a few more extra rounds from the participating institutes.
  • Additional Rounds A, B, C, and D are independent rounds and each one is treated like a Decisive Round. That is, the candidates will have only 'Accept and Freeze' and 'Reject' options in these rounds.

Admission Acceptance Process

2 Locate the Seat Allotment section and check institute-wise allotment details.
3 Choose one of the following three options:

The candidates will have the provision to select one out of the following three options:

Option Description
Accept & Freeze Select this option if you accept the offer and do not want an upgrade. You will not be considered for further rounds.
Retain & Wait Choose this option if you partially accept the offer and want an upgrade in the next rounds. If a higher preference is allotted, the previous one will be released.
Reject & Wait Select this option if you do not accept any offers in the current round but want to be considered for higher preferences in future rounds.

CCMT 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must possess a valid GATE score
  • A minimum of 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks must be acquired in the qualifying exam (For General and OBC).
  • For SC/ST/PwD category candidates, a 5% relaxation is given to the candidates in the qualifying percentage.

GATE Counselling 2026: Documents Required

Students will be required to bring the below-mentioned documents for the verification procedure while reporting at RC:

  • Provisional seat allotment letter
  • Self-signed photocopy of GATE Score Card (2024, 2023, 2022)
  • Photo ID proof
  • Original Birth certificate provided by legitimate authority/Class X (High School) as proof of date of birth
  • Class 12 marksheet
  • Marksheet of qualifying examination
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • Three Passport size coloured photographs
  • Seat acceptance fee receipt
  • Printout of the Registration form & selected choice
  • Migration Certificate
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Original Course fulfilment certificate from the Head of the University/Institution in case the result is awaited.

CCMT 2026 Admission Process

Step Process Details
1 Online Registration Candidates must register on the CCMT 2026 official website using their GATE credentials.
2 Fee Payment Pay the CCMT registration fee online to proceed with choice filling.
3 Choice Filling & Locking Select preferred institutes and M.Tech programs. Candidates must lock their choices before the deadline.
4 Automatic Locking If a candidate does not lock choices manually, the system will automatically lock the last saved choices.
5 Seat Allotment (Round 1-3) Seats are allotted based on GATE score, preferences, and category. Candidates must check the CCMT portal for results.
6 Acceptance of Seat & Payment Candidates must select one of the following options and pay the Seat Acceptance Fee:

GATE Counselling 2026: For IIT Roorkee

To get admitted to IISc Bangalore, the candidates need to go through IISc Counseling. Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) provides a common platform for the candidates to make the most preferred choice for admission. Before registering on COAP, the students need to keep in mind the following pointers.

  • The admission rounds are conducted based on the GATE scores and eligibility criteria defined by IISc Bangalore.
  • 70% weightage will be given to GATE score and 30% weightage will be given to written tests or personal interviews.
  • Candidates possessing a minimum of the second class in the following degrees are eligible to apply for admission in Research Programs (Ph.D./MTech).
