GATE admissions follow more than one route. Participating IITs and IISc require institute applications alongside COAP, while CCMT handles central choices for participating NITs, IIEST, IIITs and CFTIs. The 2027 admission schedules are not announced yet.

2026 reference: a valid GATE score alone was insufficient. The qualifying degree, paper and special programme conditions also had to match.

- Photo ID and proof of date of birth.
- Class 12 certificate and qualifying-degree marksheets.
- Degree/provisional certificate, or permitted final-result undertaking/certificate.
- Valid GATE scorecard for the accepted year and paper.
- Applicable category and PwD documents; 2026 OBC-NCL/EWS certificates had to be issued on or after 1 April 2026.
- Certified translation for documents not in Hindi or English; respond to verification queries by the stated deadline.

Questions and Exceptions
Can I apply to an IIT only through COAP?+
No. Apply to the institute and programme separately. COAP displays participating offers and records your decision; it does not replace the institute application.
Is a qualifying GATE mark enough for an NIT seat?+
No. CCMT checks programme eligibility and allocates against choices, category, score and available seats. Qualifying marks and programme closing scores answer different questions.
Can I participate in COAP and CCMT?+
They are separate admission systems. Meeting one system's conditions does not register you in the other. Track each application, payment, decision and withdrawal rule separately; an accepted offer can have its own reporting deadline.
Are the 2026 counselling fees confirmed for 2027?+
No. The fee table describes 2026. The 2027 admission notices will determine the next cycle's charges and dates.
